Barracuda DragCar: Cheap Fuel System Upgrades before
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 сен 2024
- I’m making small changes to the 1968 Plymouth Barracuda racecar for the better. My fuel pump had been surging some when racing in the 90+ degree heat. I have elected to add a return line with the Moroso Fuel log.

This fuel system is not totally completed! I will post an update after track testing with and without my nitrous.
@@JustMoparJoe Full Pass,Big Steam!!💥
Nothing the matter with your poor boy filter I bet the price was right
@@JeffLeblanc-xb7qe it’s only around $30. It is only 10 microns, which some believe is too much to use pre filter. The smaller the number, the better it filters. The issue is that if it clogs, then it slows down flow.
Nice ingenuity and upgrades Joe.
Looks like it will work.👍👍
Thanks for sharing. 👍
@@edsmachine93 thanks, Ed. I’ll post and let you know how it turns out.
Take a shot looking down inside the tank next video, Joe. I want to see how the return fuel
re-enters the tank with the pump on. 🙂

I'm enjoying learning as I go. Thanks Joe!
@@BigMikesHooptyBarn thanks Big Mike!
I would really like to be a spectator at no name this year.....maybe next. As always Joe great tips.
Thanks brother. I’ve got testing to do!
Well i hope all the improvements yield you better times at the track. Keep up the good content Joe.
I hope so too! Thanks Jeff!
That fuel log worked out great!!
Thanks brother!
Nice tips and upgrades!👍
Thanks brother
Thanks Joe 😊
Thanks Buddy
Up grades for the purple machine... good content and thanks....🔧🔧👍
@@SeanJoseph-s2s thanks brother!
You just keep making it better! Keep up the good work.
Thanks Brother Brad
I can see this set up being easier on the pump for the long term
Yes sir! Should be a help
@@JustMoparJoe I just had my mind blown. This setup should keep the fuel cooler as it is not sitting stagnant near the front of the car
@@ninjapumkin definitely keeps the pump cooler. The only cooling forces for the pump are new fuel and air around it
Nice set up, Joe. Definitely a great upgrade. Looks like Race Cars need such complicated parts to make them fast. Glad I won’t have to worry about that. 🦶🏾#StreetCarLife
Ahh yes. This one is a tire change away from street service too
Definitely a nice upgrade
Thanks Shane! I will update how well it goes 👍🏼
The return line is a nice addition, Joe. Generally speaking, electric motors/pumps like to run as opposed to stop & go. Will be interesting to see how things progress with your test & tune!
Thanks brother! I will flow test and see how it goes
Great job, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Thanks Donald!
Sounds way better
Been looking at those fuel logs with interest...be keen to see what you think Joe... thanks for sharing as always
Thanks Aaron!
Dinner Time!!
@@UnfinishedProjectDartSport dinner is about to be served!
I think you will do well you have been doing well any other time
Thanks Jeff. Sure sounds better
100 gallons @ 20 miles / gallon
You’re putting a lot of miles on that Barracuda !
😂 that math isn’t mathing!
Leader of the PAK 👍🏻🇦🇺✌️
Thanks brother
Pretty trick. And good to know.
Thanks Jonny Mop
Yes, sounds better
Thanks buddy!
Cool!!! 😎
Thanks Mike! Gotta test that pressure before hitting the juice
Nice, as always! Did you wire the fuel pump to hot switch or oil pressure ?
It’s wired to its own switch, but that switch doesn’t have power unless my ignition switch is on, in the panel. The panel isn’t hot unless main power is on. For my tests, I just turned the panel on and was using the master switch to kill with
@@JustMoparJoe Thanks! 👍Some hook it to the oil pressure switch in case of a wreck, no oil pressure no fuel pump to keep pumping.
Jamie can provide a bass line on his Rickenbacker.
😅
Rock on
Now disconnect the fuel line from the nos plate , flow the solenoid and watch the fuel pressure
Yes sir. I’m on that with Professor P, Shane Pulido. He has a flowing device to determine pressure drop.
So to spit ball some stuff. Your pump is on its last legs so get a new one or have one handy. Lost many a pump around here. Return is always hot fuel so we ran coolers in the trunk before it returned to the tank and was better than front coolers. Cooling down your fuel really helps. Return always at the top of the tank because its hot fuel and aerated to some degree. Fuel longs are the way to go. For me with dual 4s on a blown engine its a must have. A gauge on the log it nice because you can plumb it where ever you want it. Some choose the cowel behind the hood. Personally the idea of a fuel loss there and fuel in the car with me is a no thanks. Fuel pressure is important to me because if it drops to 4 it means not enough fuel flow and lean condtion. Again we are talking blown applications but nat asp. Not that big a deal. If you lean out with nos. You need some pistons 😂
Thanks for sharing. Pump was dead on last weekend without the return. I think it’ll have a happier life now that it’s not stopped up all the time
@JustMoparJoe do what you want. I would replace it. Once the death growel starts its on its last legs and next will leak. Ask me how I know lol. Those little pumps work there butts off. Something about an armature and sparks and fuel don't excit me. Better safe than sorry. I love flame jobs just not real ones.
🤙🏁
Thanks brother
Hey Joe. I been meaning to ask ya. Do you think it's worth taking off a old throttle body and converting to carb? I know it will take a intake, fuel pump/regulator, distributor. But vs the cost of a throttle body, financially it makers sense. What do you guys think?
@@robsdeviceunknown it depends on the application. If you were magnum swapping something, I’d definitely go with the carb intake and older style distributor. You can get a ready to run unit from firecore around $200. Super simple to install.
👍😎🏁
Thanks John
Good job, but you do need all the same color fittings... It's worth .001 in the end
Yes, you are right😂
That wix 33299 is completely wrong for a pre filter and electric pump.
It is 10 micron and doesn’t flow the gph you need.
It’s only 1-2 gpm which is 60-120 gph.
That’s a problem for your system.
You are supposed to have a 100micron pre filter for the pump, and the flow needs to be capable for the pump gph.
Use a large holley or aeromotive cannister style with a cleanable stainless steel filter.
Also rubber mount your pump and it will be much quieter.
Thanks for sharing!
One of the reasons I'm not done with my car is because I spent so much on my fuel system lol.
It’s easy to do, especially on high horsepower stuff. I’m on easy street with my little builds
@@JustMoparJoe I'm 100% sure I could have gotten away with 1/2 the pump.
My tunnel ram 470 is making 692 at 58-5900 rpm
I went with aeromotive a-2000 and all of its supporting cast. Good thing I found evil energy Chinese fuel lines , because PTFE hose and fittings through jegs was over $1100. EE was just under $500.00
👍👍👍
Thanks Jaybo
After joe watch cleetus general lee hit 8 sec in 1/4 mile, joe order twin turbos n efi system. "8secjoe"
Cleetus isn’t ready!
Hey Joe,
Tim here, WHY do u think u need a return line......vane style pumps can bulk head all day long......i run -8 from cell to reg, use a Volumax Holley reg (less restrictive), and 2 -6 lines to the bowls......ok, i dont have nitrous, but i dont get WHY u feel u need a return??.....i rebuilt my Holley blue a while back, just cuz, NEVER let me down, and i NEVER lean out.....just curious my brother......clarify a bit??.....PEACE to you sir!!
Thanks Tim. I’ve ran this deadhead system for years and had great luck. I’ve always heard the return keeps the pump and fuel cooler. I was needing to add another fuel source for my nitrous and didn’t want to use another pump(I don’t think I’m on that level yet). The fuel log Gave me another port to tap in to.
What horsepower does it have
I’m not truly certain, but using the Wallace calculator, it should be around 630.
Your pump sounds like a 383.
Much better after!
Everything is to small Joe...your going to have issues. You need low pressure high Volume. Weldon makes a nice pump.
He's going to have problems too.......that style regulator will need more volume to maintain pressure down track.
Well here’s my pump. It’s the exact same pump I’ve had for 2 years without issue. I have sprayed 150 shot in 3rd gear with no issue and the same supply. It’s a Low pressure pump. Summit has answered that it can be used with or without a return line. Let’s see if the issues arise. I will certainly share if there’s a problem. This pump delivers 140 gph. Here’s that link if y’all want to see the reviews and information. www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g3136-17?rrec=true#overview
@@JustMoparJoe Yes, but you haven't used it with that style return log. (Summit is about the last place i'd go for tech. advise) I tried that style of log years ago with 2-110 Holley's (that was about all there was a the time for race pumps) and the pressure dropped to about half whatever initial setting i tried. I think those logs are a good idea for a mechanical, variable volume type of fuel pump. Keep an eye on your pressure for your first WOT runs.
@@oscaracme absolutely. Im also going to flow the nitrous line and fuel at the same time
@@JustMoparJoe Lines...Pump...everything too small. Your supporting 500 cubes now not that sb 408. Never mind the nitrous and the return you are going to run.
