- Dera Baba Murad Shah Ji is a Sufiyana Darbar located in Nakodar, Jalandhar Punjab, India. The Darbar is a symbol of love and peace where people from all different castes and religions come and pay their respects at this Darbar. The two main Darbars in Nakodar are Baba Murad Shah Ji Darbar and Almast Baba Lal Badshah Ji Darbar.
It is a Sufi paradise located in Jalandhar District in Nakodar and is only 24 km away from Jalandhar City and 16 km from Kala Sanghian 114 km away from Amritsar . This pilgrimage site is a Sufi paradise which is very peaceful. The tomb is built in a structural way and photographs of Baba Murad Shah Ji are displayed at a couple of places which look beautiful.
Sai Ghulam Shah Ji also known as Sai Laddi Shah Ji became the head of the darbar after Baba Murad Shah Ji left this world. Sai Ji continued to look after the darbar and continue building the darbar. Sai Ji used to organize an annual Urs mela (fair) in the memory of Baba Murad Shah Ji, which he invited Qawwal's and Sufi Punjabi Singers to perform. Qaramat Ali Qawwal group performed quite frequently and still do to this day. One of the Qawwalis that Sai Ji used to love was 'Mere Likhle Ghulama Vich Naa' which in every mehfil Sai Ji would always listen to it. Sai Laddi Shah Ji departed this world on Thursday the first of June 2008.
Gurdas Maan became a disciple of Sai Ji and Sai Ji loved Gurdas Maan very dearly. In 2006, Sai Ji took his pagri (turban) off during a qawwali mehfil and placed it on Gurdas Maan's head.
After Sai Laddi Shah Ji left this world, Gurdas Maan now leads the melas (fairs) in memory of Sai Laddi Shah Ji and Baba Murad Shah Ji.
Every year two Urs melas (anniversary fair) are held, one in the memory of Baba Murad Shah Ji and the other for Sai Laddi Shah Ji.
During the Urs (Anniversary) of Sai Ji, Gurdas Maan usually offers gifts to the Mazars (tombs) of the pious Saints . He also lights incense sticks which has a great significance in Sufi rituals
How To Reach :-
Best and convenient way to reach Nakodar is, arrive to jalandhar city, than catch a bus from Jalandhar bus stand to Nakodar. Bus service is quick and available from 5 am to 8 pm or later. This is easy route especially if you are travelling from long distance.
Second Route :-
There is also a direct road from Ludhiana, for whom coming from Ludhiana, Ambala & New Delhi. If you are arriving through your own vehicle then this is the best & shortest path. But if you are using public transportation, then bus service is limited on that route, mini bus goes randomly after every 30 minutes from ludhiana bypass, With this route you do not need to go Jalandhar.
The path is Ludhiana Bypass - Phallaur - Noormahal -Nakodar. After crossing ludhiana toll, you have to cross one flyover then take left to phallaur city, that road is straight going towards Noormahal & Nakodar. This will save minimum one & half hour.
Accommodation :-
Still now nobody is allowed to stay inside the darbaar, but occasionally on Mela (Barsi), people are allowed to sleep inside darbaar's pandaal. There is also nearby Gurudwaras where you can have your pleasant stay.
Dera's Timings :-
Dera Baba Murad Shah ji is open 365 days a year. And timings are from 6 AM to 8 PM. (6 AM to 7 PM Due to Covid)
