Sincerest thanks for sharing this wonderful video. Mr. Hitchens was not only an outstanding intellectual, but a kind gentleman, as his closest friends would attest. He will always be missed by all people who embrace free inquiry, freedom of speech, and logical, defensible, reasonable thought and all resulting questions. Go Hitch! 💚

Thanks for this, unseen and previously unavailable Hitchens content is very welcome. I've watched just about all Hitchens content on YT, so thanks again.
This wonderful piece had me almost in tears towards the end; tinged as it must be by the knowledge of what was to come. What an incomparable loss to humanity and to humanism. His tutelage over the years; too late for me to truly appreciate him in his lifetime, introduced me to the free thinkers. Paine, Spinoza, Jefferson, Harris et al. Such a loss. But he himself would not allow anyone to wallow in said loss. Revel instead. Revel in the joy and beauty facilitated by his thoughts and his writings. If I pass on one thing only to my children, it shall be The Hitch. And I shall have done my work.

It may work with your fellow losers but not with me. "Not a lot of folks have accepted that mythical character Jesus because it’s obviously farcical, capitalizing on emotional blackmail." Again, all you have is bowel gas as your proof. It's what you losers have. ----"According to Marcus Borg, the following facts are agreed upon by most New Testament scholars: Jesus was born sometime just before 4 B.C. He grew up in Nazareth, a small village in Galilee, as part of the peasant class. Jesus’ father was a carpenter and he became one, too, meaning that they had likely lost their agricultural land at some point. Jesus was raised Jewish and he remained deeply Jewish all of his life. His intention was not to create a new religion. Rather, he saw himself as doing something within Judaism. He left Nazareth as an adult, met the prophet John and was baptized by John. During his baptism, Jesus likely experienced some sort of divine vision. Shortly afterwards, Jesus began his public preaching with the message that the world could be transformed into a “Kingdom of God.” He became a noted healer, teacher and prophet. More healing stories are told about Jesus than about any other figure in the Jewish tradition. He was executed by Roman imperial authority. His followers experienced him after his death. It is clear that they had visions of Jesus as they had known him during his historical life."---- from the article (that communist youtube won't let me list the site) --Did Jesus Exist? All Scholars Agree He “Certainly” Existed

Undoubtedly the best and most riveting tape of CH I've seen. Surprised that this was not professionally recorded by the Temple itself!! It's nice to see him in discussion and not under assault for his beliefs by one sort of incompetent "believer" or another. Instead, he was accompanied by an eminently competent well prepared questioner!! I even learned a few new things I had not b4 this video, including being introduced to Mr. Dacey. Christopher was not sweating solely on account of the weather conditions BTW. Thankfully, thru YT Christopher's eloquence continues to inform and educate people that may have not even heard of him, while the rest of us can come back and watch something new every now and then, just like this video!! Thank you for your efforts David.

Hitchens is a fascinating recantour with discussions of knowledge gained, and intellectual understanding of history around the world. I get much explained, and in a very charming, entertaining way. I miss you greatly.
1:03:35 Hitchens thoughts on declaring others racist would help out so wonderfully in today’s state of affairs. I miss him. “If a word like that becomes cheap, then we’ve all lost a very important term of condemnation.” Bravo. However I think it’s safe to say we’ve lost that term of condemnation as it is so irresponsibly thrown about.
I enjoyed this, thanks. Hitchens was obviously not feeling well but stayed until the end to sign books like the trooper he was. I think that says a lot about his character.
Thank you so much David for this video. I've always admired the Hitch. He was a very good writer, a brilliant debater, but as an orator he was unsurpassed. He could give a speech about the paint drying on your wall and you would remain fascinated about walls and paint to your dying day.

Thank you sharing this, even if you did sit on it for 10 years before doing so. It seems to me that anyone who admires and respects Hitchens does in fact have "some piece of him": I know I do.
Absolutely ! I always am very eager to understand as much as possible when I'm listening to him, but English is not my native language. So when he gets all eloquent I am tempted to stop the video and look up that last marvelous word he said and so on. But it as you may well understand that isn't a 'handy' way to follow a conversation / talk.
You really don't even have to agree with Hitchens to appreciate what a great intellect and sense of humor he had. He really believed that human beings should think for themselves and not just accept the indoctrination of the particular culture and society they happened to be born into. I will always watch these videos to remind myself of him. I wish I could have met him and had a conversation with him.
Christopher has 'formed me' more than any man including Newton, I can never say how much he I s missed in my heart and mind! You were a great man Mr Hitchens!
Salman later years after this interview as we know what happened, here we really understand that these persons of letters really are hated by the religious as Christopher is talking about, and in the crossfires these Men drinks, write books, and make their families...these are the real heroes and im grateful to have been fortunate enough to establish time in my life time to for to listen to them.
AHH its modern and meta that Christopher never smiles/smiled so its really nice of you to not only to have such a wonderful surprise (only translatable and itinerant to those with a ravenous search history filtered to Hitch for his inimitable style and technique, though dead for nearly a decade) but to have his smiling face as the sale pitch to a winnowed treasure already tempting showing an hour and a half presented interview of Hitchens's ideas and ideological evolution from young to his present. What a great return in acknowledgement to the disappointing events witnessed as of late in the news. :)
I have watched this man in multiple videos over the past several years haven’t seen this one This is just before he couldn’t breath one morning and was diagnosed shortly thereafter He is so sick and it pains me to watch although any additional words from the Hitch are truly a treasure trove I probably won’t remember I’ve lived once I close my eyes for good but if that 1% comes in i would still be in awe of this man saying hello and shaking his hand and most of all thanking him for his wonderful contributions to primates everywhere The last few minutes seeing him signing and looking up and thanking them was absolutely beautiful he fed off of fellow primates he needed them as much as we needed him Sadly now we need him more than ever I hope that perhaps he knows this somehow

@@AS-gx4qg wow, all that I gave was somehow proven not correct by this evidence of yours...
"You are lost in your web of fantasies"
Give your brain a rest now after all that thinking.
Of all the millions of people in the world how can there only be one like him? Absolutely priceless, we desperately need someone to continue his work
Never get tired of listening to this man. So knowledgeable, intelligent, well spoken, civil, and a man about town.
He is the only person I don’t know personally but missing greatly.
I feel so much the same, what an intellect, what a vocabulary, what a tragic loss!
Me too. So damn true
I am a Presbyterian minister who misses Hitch greatly. I'm not the only minister who does. A dazzling orator -- a singular voice, really -- who made us think. I appreciated his challenges. I am a better pastor because of Hitch. Gone too soon.
@@matthewyoung6759 Got to commend you on your intellectual honesty. Of all the critics of religion I'd say Hitch had the deepest and broadest understanding of it and its history. Good to know that there are those within religion who valued his contribution.
Perfectly said.
My favorite author, lecturer, and orator. I miss him still. No one since his death has been able to fill his shoes. Humanity lost someone special.
Not special, just a loser.
Hitch who pretends to know the bible as he screws up on it over and over again including what faith means biblically.
--"Faith is the surrender of the mind, it's the surrender of reason, it's the surrender of the only thing that makes us different from other animals. It's our need to believe and to surrender our skepticism and our reason, our yearning to discard that and put all our trust or faith in someone or something, that is the sinister thing to me. ... Out of all the virtues, all the supposed virtues, faith must be the most overrated”-- Christopher Hitchens
Now, look at what biblical faith really means that Hitch the liar didn't even look at:
Biblically, faith means trust. It's a trust by evidence seen. God asks that we prove things. To reason. To get knowledge. To study. God has nothing to hide. We develop trust from what is seen, and that which is not seen yet is trusted also because of the trust built up from what is seen. It's much like a human relationship. We don't trust much until a person has gained that trust from what is observed. The difference is though, God is not limited to human powers. He created us.

Hitchens always went into evasive word antics to avoid key questions like how we got the creation of the universe.
Real science says nothing does nothing. Real science says if there was something there already it must fit with the evidence of what we know. We know the 1LT says there's a conservation of energy. It can change forms and neither can be created or destroyed. Creation cannot happen by natural means. The 2LT has various aspects, one being the universe is winding down, entropy. Usable energy is becoming less usable, so at one point usable energy was at its max. This all points to a supernatural creation, by a supernatural creator at a certain point in which matter, space, and time were created. When I read how it can happen otherwise, ALL the fools resort to science-fiction. Once a supernatural creation is accepted, then the next step is finding proof of what supernatural power did it.

Hitchens has certainly left a "treasure trove" for humanity 😢
It's not a loss when a loser passes.

You see? You have created a prophet - albeit of minuscule stature; misguided; and, short lived. It's not hard. What is hard is to be an orator that casts a message that lasts for hundreds of years or even rarer thousands of years. That requires more than just a spoiled, unruly, iconoclast.

Again, all you have is bowel gas as your proof. It's what you losers have.
----"According to Marcus Borg, the following facts are agreed upon by most New Testament scholars:
Jesus was born sometime just before 4 B.C.
Shortly afterwards, Jesus began his public preaching with the message that the world could be transformed into a “Kingdom of God.”
He became a noted healer, teacher and prophet. More healing stories are told about Jesus than about any other figure in the Jewish tradition.
He was executed by Roman imperial authority.
His followers experienced him after his death. It is clear that they had visions of Jesus as they had known him during his historical life."----

An intriguing and instructive session with Christopher, as always - and I would also offer huge compliments to Austin Dacey as a perceptive and constructive interviewer. Very rare. Very well researched and prepared, but never intrusive in Hitch's responses. A textbook lesson.
Now after having watched a Christopher Hitchens video I always have a lump in my throat. Or sometimes even in tears.
They always die too soon, the good ones.
The comment section on YT isn't the proper place to elaborate too extensively on the greatness of 'The Hitch' but those who actually have taken the time to listen to him and read his books knów what I'm talking about.
For those who know him and his work it is unnecessary to say what many of you keep on mentioning in this section and what ought to be carved in granit for that matter is :
Christopher Hitchens, we miss you terribly.
I'm rereading his marvelous book 'God is not great' at the moment and I am convinced it will be on my nightstand perminently.
He wasn't good, he lied and didn't care.

Thank you so much for sharing this marvellous interview of my great hero
Courageous interview, Christopher is so much smarter, but you did well!
Hello, thank you for your kind words. My goal was to record Hitchens with as much quality and respect as I could possible have done, after having watched loads of videos from his previous lectures and debates. May he forever live in our hearts.
Ironic that he will have a longer "afterlife" than most religious apologists will ever dream to have.

I always am very eager to understand as much as possible when I'm listening to him, but English is not my native language. So when he gets all eloquent I am tempted to stop the video and look up that last marvelous word he said and so on. You really don't even have to agree with Hitchens to appreciate what a great intellect and sense of humor he had. Christopher has 'formed me' more than any man including Newton, I can never say how much he I s missed in my heart and mind! You were a great man Mr Hitchens!
Hard to imagine, but he found out only three days before this on June 10th that he was mortally sick, and 18 months later, he was gone.
He really didn't look well in this
Salman later years after this interview as we know what happened, here we really understand that these persons of letters really are hated by the religious as Christopher is talking about, and in the crossfires these Men drinks, write books, and make their families...these are the real heroes and im grateful to have been fortunate enough to establish time in my life time to for to listen to them.
There will never be another Hitch
Gods Servant oh but there are many sheep like you the world doesn’t need.
I dread the thought, but you may be right.
True. But Douglas Murray is a worthy successor.
Another hidden gem! Thank you for the post!
We were born a day apart Christopher being the eldest it amazes me how that one day difference created a genuis of him and myself as an admirer
I have watched this man in multiple videos over the past several years haven’t seen this one
This is just before he couldn’t breath one morning and was diagnosed shortly thereafter
He is so sick and it pains me to watch although any additional words from the Hitch are truly a treasure trove
I probably won’t remember I’ve lived once I close my eyes for good but if that 1% comes in i would still be in awe of this man saying hello and shaking his hand and most of all thanking him for his wonderful contributions to primates everywhere
The last few minutes seeing him signing and looking up and thanking them was absolutely beautiful he fed off of fellow primates he needed them as much as we needed him
Sadly now we need him more than ever
I hope that perhaps he knows this somehow
Certainly never, ever boring. We truly miss you, Hitch.

We can't even get science without God. The laws of nature only can come from a Lawgiver, God.
Life only comes from life. Law of biogenesis.
God is the reason for us and all we have.
