  • During the brief speaking tour to promote his memoir, Hitch-22, Christopher Hitchens spoke with Austin Dacey before a hometown crowd in Washington, DC at the Historic Sixth & I Synagogue on June 13, 2010. His sudden illness was announced shortly afterwards.
Christopher Hitchens is my favorite writer. Recording this video was a great opportunity to meet my hero, who didn't disappoint. His work meant a great deal to me, and losing him was very terrible. I kept this video to myself for ten years to hang onto some piece of him, but I'm now happy to share this recording with everyone.
The event was held on an unusually humid and hot day, and the inadequate air conditioning and stage lights added to the speaker's discomfort. Hitchens looks like he's baking but everyone in there was moderately uncomfortable. I think he held up well in the spotlight, with the private knowledge that he was facing a serious crisis. The last few minutes are actually my favorite moments, where he warmly greets his book's buyers with kind glances and smiles. Long Live Christopher Hitchens!

Hitch who pretends to know the bible as he screws up on it over and over again including what faith means biblically.
--"Faith is the surrender of the mind, it's the surrender of reason, it's the surrender of the only thing that makes us different from other animals. It's our need to believe and to surrender our skepticism and our reason, our yearning to discard that and put all our trust or faith in someone or something, that is the sinister thing to me. ... Out of all the virtues, all the supposed virtues, faith must be the most overrated”-- Christopher Hitchens
Now, look at what biblical faith really means that Hitch the liar didn't even look at:
Biblically, faith means trust. It's a trust by evidence seen. God asks that we prove things. To reason. To get knowledge. To study. God has nothing to hide. We develop trust from what is seen, and that which is not seen yet is trusted also because of the trust built up from what is seen. It's much like a human relationship. We don't trust much until a person has gained that trust from what is observed. The difference is though, God is not limited to human powers. He created us.
Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Hitchens always went into evasive word antics to avoid key questions like how we got the creation of the universe.
Real science says nothing does nothing. Real science says if there was something there already it must fit with the evidence of what we know. We know the 1LT says there's a conservation of energy. It can change forms and neither can be created or destroyed. Creation cannot happen by natural means. The 2LT has various aspects, one being the universe is winding down, entropy. Usable energy is becoming less usable, so at one point usable energy was at its max. This all points to a supernatural creation, by a supernatural creator at a certain point in which matter, space, and time were created. When I read how it can happen otherwise, ALL the fools resort to science-fiction. Once a supernatural creation is accepted, then the next step is finding proof of what supernatural power did it.
We can't even get science without God. The laws of nature only can come from a Lawgiver, God.
Life only comes from life. Law of biogenesis.

Again, all you have is bowel gas as your proof. It's what you losers have.
----"According to Marcus Borg, the following facts are agreed upon by most New Testament scholars:
Jesus was born sometime just before 4 B.C. He grew up in Nazareth, a small village in Galilee, as part of the peasant class. Jesus’ father was a carpenter and he became one, too, meaning that they had likely lost their agricultural land at some point.
Jesus was raised Jewish and he remained deeply Jewish all of his life. His intention was not to create a new religion. Rather, he saw himself as doing something within Judaism.
He left Nazareth as an adult, met the prophet John and was baptized by John. During his baptism, Jesus likely experienced some sort of divine vision.
Shortly afterwards, Jesus began his public preaching with the message that the world could be transformed into a “Kingdom of God.”
He became a noted healer, teacher and prophet. More healing stories are told about Jesus than about any other figure in the Jewish tradition.
He was executed by Roman imperial authority.
His followers experienced him after his death. It is clear that they had visions of Jesus as they had known him during his historical life."----

His tutelage over the years; too late for me to truly appreciate him in his lifetime, introduced me to the free thinkers. Paine, Spinoza, Jefferson, Harris et al. Such a loss. But he himself would not allow anyone to wallow in said loss. Revel instead. Revel in the joy and beauty facilitated by his thoughts and his writings. If I pass on one thing only to my children, it shall be The Hitch. And I shall have done my work.

You see? You have created a prophet - albeit of minuscule stature; misguided; and, short lived. It's not hard. What is hard is to be an orator that casts a message that lasts for hundreds of years or even rarer thousands of years. That requires more than just a spoiled, unruly, iconoclast.

Wow, you losers sure get about excited about loser Hitch.

Whether you agree or otherwise with anything he expresses, I cannot help but wonder whether such a well read, intelligent, engaging, eloquent, humorous and captivating public speaker of his calibre will ever be witnessed again. His legacy, influence, mastery of the the English language, and inspiration to free thinkers will continue on; a small crumb of solice for the 'early' loss of such a truly exceptional man, who would no doubt have had so much more to contribute to inquisitive minds. Undoubtedly the best and most riveting tape of CH I've seen. Surprised that this was not professionally recorded by the Temple itself!! It's nice to see him in discussion and not under assault for his beliefs by one sort of incompetent "believer" or another. Instead, he was accompanied by an eminently competent well prepared questioner!! I even learned a few new things I had not b4 this video, including being introduced to Mr. Dacey. Christopher was not sweating solely on account of the weather conditions BTW.
Thankfully, thru YT Christopher's eloquence continues to inform and educate people that may have not even heard of him, while the rest of us can come back and watch something new every now and then, just like this video!! Thank you for your efforts David.

Thank you so much David for this video. I've always admired the Hitch. He was a very good writer, a brilliant debater, but as an orator he was unsurpassed. He could give a speech about the paint drying on your wall and you would remain fascinated about walls and paint to your dying day.

Hitchens is a fascinating recantour with discussions of knowledge gained, and intellectual understanding of history around the world.
I get much explained, and in a very charming, entertaining way. I miss you greatly.

One has to admire Hitchens' tenacity notwithstanding his other lauded qualities. He was plainly in considerable discomfort portending his underlying illness and yet he prevailed with gracious demeanour. Thanks for sharing.

An intriguing and instructive session with Christopher, as always - and I would also offer huge compliments to Austin Dacey as a perceptive and constructive interviewer. Very rare. Very well researched and prepared, but never intrusive in Hitch's responses. A textbook lesson.

Pamela: what a treat to listen to this brilliant polemicist. Never met him personally - yet reacted to his relatively young death with great sadness and a deep sense of the loss of this great thinker to the world.

I don’t think the American audience appreciated the “crackling” joke at the beginning.

Salman later years after this interview as we know what happened, here we really understand that these persons of letters really are hated by the religious as Christopher is talking about, and in the crossfires these Men drinks, write books, and make their families...these are the real heroes and im grateful to have been fortunate enough to establish time in my life time to for to listen to them.
