Networking is a crucial skill in any industry. To be completely honest, it's possible to get jobs you would either not be qualified for otherwise or are very junior because you know the right people. Of course I mean that in the most positive way because they are fine with you building your skills. Join local chapters like OWASP and ISACA to name a few, and you will be amazed at how that can help your career. They typically have a student discount (or free) because it's important for upcoming professionals to be around.
