Ms. Lea is literally the best Eponine, the best Fantine, and the best Kim. In every role that she plays, she gives justice to the character. Perfection!!!
Actually, Fantine does not know that Cosette has been treated badly by the Eponine's parents. She sends more and more money to them knowing that her daughter is in good hands. This makes it more heart breaking.
Yes the novel is much more scandalous and tragic than this... I never understood that she actually thinks that Cossette has arrived at M sur M already with Valjean at this point, and is under the impression she is waiting until she is a little better before the Dr allows her to see her. The truth is is that Valjean didn't go get Cossette like he said he went to denounce himad as 24601... This song is not so much a hallucination that Cossette is there it's that in the book she thinks that Cossette IS there and that the children outside the mayor's house is the sound of Cosette. All adding to the confusing and halluciagenic state normal during someone's last moments.... It's literally heart breaking it's not called Les Miserables for nothing. A masterpiece both on paper and on stage
Let’s remember that Lea was the first to cut her hair entirely for the role. Anne has publicly said “Lea was my Fantine and I just wanted to give a more destructive approach to what she did in 2007”.
This was Lea's fourth Broadway show not counting the two times she returned to Miss Saigon: she originated Miss Saigon, went into original Les Miz as replacement Eponine, opened revival of Flower Drum Song, then replaced in Les Miz revival. And three of her four Broadway shows she plays characters who die. Characters who sing and then die. Characters who sing in someone's arms and die. I will say - she does it very well!
How did she manage to control herself and keep her sanity while doing this part? I'm just here in my office watching a short video clip of her super fantabulous performance and I am bawling.
Just when I thought the definitive Fantine was Patti LuPone, here comes Lea after 20 years to raise the bar on what a definitive Fantine is. I was there to see the magic and will never forget that ever!
Some think Valjean's acting was a bit rushed but in truth I feel he acts as you would act if the woman in your arms was dying. And of course a brilliant rendition of one of the greatest numbers.
epitome of characters death of schonberg's and boulbil's musical plays.. i mean it.. three women all dying had been performed by Ms. Lea and its exquisite at its finest... Kim in Miss Saigon and Fantine and Eponine in Les Miserable. all her characters are treated well determining of good precision of which she shall use in the performance
I love Lea in this role ! Why does everyone have to fight about who's the best this and who's the best that, i love Anne as well as Lea they are both trying to portray different things about the character and they are both equally good!
Brilliant Lea! Brilliant performance! You will always be a legend of theater musicals. Now it is time for Rachelle Ann Go to play Fantine in West End's 30th year celebration of Les Miserables! Let the Filipino community support her as they supported Lea and as they supported Rachelle as Gigi Van Tranh in Miss Saigon. :)
lea singing this part just brings me back to her 10th anniversary performance as eponine. she has the best version of “on my own,” regardless of the lyrics or version..
Goosebumps from 2:40 to 2:58. That was excellent death scene! And the fluttering voice of Lea Salonga fading into the death of Fantine is haunting. Bravo. Bravo. Bravooo.
Valjean is in rush ,he sing so fast and with no emotion,he's just following the choreography hahahaha when he will sit or stand and when he will hold fantine's hand and then that's it.
I love you Lea! Amazing acting. Facial expressions are down pat. The red area around the eyes was a great touch, too. One thing against this performance, though--- Was anyone else bothered by how Valjean had HIS BACK TO THE AUDIENCE for about half the time he was onstage this scene? Coming from a fellow actor, that is BAD, BAD NEWS. Never turn your back to the audience. Besides that, though, I loved this. :) Bravo, brava
A love that Fantine has had a brutal life (as many did at the time) and seen the cruelty of life and has been broken and just want her daughter to be happy and once she knows this she passes away peacefully. It's a beautiful thing
Lea was absolutely amazing as always playing Fantine. She’s my favorite one. She was almost good enough for me to ignore how terrible the actor who played Val Jean was
I sing versions of this to my cat, Valjean, when we go to the vet. He’s estimated 10 this year and has been with me over 5 years. My Valjean, you’ll live in my protection. My Valjean, my cat you’ll want for nothing. He was a little miserable street cat who I would see and feed and he got sick and pleaded with me to take him. Now he likes to listen to this song, even when it’s not about him.
Yes one thing can be said about her performance: she is amazing!!! This is exatly why I adore her. she was amazing in the 25th but here with the acting and everything my gosh ;) Best Fantine ever!
Am I the only one who thought the man when fantine died was like: well, this is awkward! It's not fair on lea as she acted so well and the stupid dude ruined the emotion. His acting wasn't enough to justify how good leas acting really was.
Well when Lea plays, it seems she puts the bar higher. She originated Kim, and still the gold standard of Kim. When she played eponine in the 10th, she raised the bar for those who would play Eponine after her
Yeah, but I was referring to ACTUAL stage productions, not to one or two-night only concert versions. Lea also played Eponine on the Broadway stage in 1993.
If only they cast lea to orginate this role in the revival instead of Daphne Ruben Vega ,Lea could have gotten her second Tony .she replace Daphne and stayed longer than Daphne's stint and boost tikets sales during her stint Watching in 2020.
Oh my gosh, doesn't it clearly state in the title that this is Lea SALONGA? Broadway legend? Not to mention their singing styles are completely different!
I suddenly wondered about this - anyone else play so many characters who die on Broadway? Let's limit that to musicals. And beyond that - characters who sing and die?
@ghostlylighthouses, an actress playing Fantine in tge musical professionally has never had to cut her hair and I dont believe Lea did. And as a side note Anne Hathaway would fall under the category of "Doing Les mis as a musical professionally"
Ms. Lea is literally the best Eponine, the best Fantine, and the best Kim. In every role that she plays, she gives justice to the character. Perfection!!!
You're half-right.
facts 100%
the only Jasmine.
Actually, Fantine does not know that Cosette has been treated badly by the Eponine's parents. She sends more and more money to them knowing that her daughter is in good hands. This makes it more heart breaking.
The novel version is even more heartbreaking because she died being taunted by Javert and revealed that Valjean is a criminal.

I don’t Lea cut her hair for the role. It was Anne who cut her hair for real for the role. Lea had a long hair during her Fantine stint.
@@ManongChitoCorrect. Lea had long hair until 2015. Lea was in the Broadway revival in 2007.
That "when I wake" part killed me...
I broke down that part.... ;-;
Me too... :'(
same here :(
😢
Lea's performance was so breathtaking, that i didn;t even noticed the Valjean figure
You need to get your eyes checked then. :P

'When I wake' - such a beautiful phrase
How did she manage to control herself and keep her sanity while doing this part? I'm just here in my office watching a short video clip of her super fantabulous performance and I am bawling.
In a Broadway.Com interview she said playing violent video games for a few hours helped.
@@henryanderson6752 It wasn't a question, dear 😊

Cried like a baby....:( Leah you deserve to be a Living National Artist. Thank God for your existence
Lea with no h

She deserves another Tony with this performance! Really! Seriously!

And Ruthie henshall is another of my favs
Everyone who play this role was good, why do you think the producer chose them to do this acting
Wow!! Breath-taking performance by the legendary Lea Salonga. I could feel the emotions emanating. A haunting death... goosies all over. =)

I think the audience are really dying, I mean with all the cough....geez
Lol
must agree with you there. hahaha
I think they were crying lmao
wow, this aged badly lol
corona
Lea I look up to you so much. This was just incredible. You're acting and singing as fantine is just flawless. Thanks for uploading this!
I am grateful to whoever got these vids of Lea in the Broadway revival of LES MIZ.
I love Lea's voice and I'm the fan oth her, but... Does she always play a dying role? Kim, Eponine, Fantine...
+Kate Wibberly ....
+Kate Wibberly except MULAN :)
+oley henr Actually in the original story where it was based on, Mulan does die 😂😂😂
+David bear yes but in alladin jasmine dosnt die
but she's really good at it, right? 😂

I would never cut my hair for a part in a play. She's got such a beautiful voice! I love Lea Salonga.
The most realistic scene that I have ever seen a performer do like Lea Salonga in Les Miserables
Oh my! I'm Crying.. I love Ms. Lea and I wish to see her in person. Amazing performance :) :)
Oh My God! You're so amazing, and I cried like a child now because of you. I love you so much Ms. Lea! Fantastic!
I'm speechless oh my god that was just amazing. Haunting, moving, emotional. She should get another Tony for this. I literally cried
Man, I'm weeping right now... :'(
A love that Fantine has had a brutal life (as many did at the time) and seen the cruelty of life and has been broken and just want her daughter to be happy and once she knows this she passes away peacefully. It's a beautiful thing
And this Valjean is the proof that musicals should cast actual actors and not just people with good voice range!
her voice is crying and that's why she"s the best..she just gives the perfect emotions to the song.
and i am now in tears..... what a WONDERFUL performance!
no one:
me:*watching this at night and stoping my self from crying*
This made me shed a tear. Great singing and acting! Lea is the best!
Please tell me I am not the only one wjo cries literally every time I watch this.
Even though the video is shaky, it is heartbreaking just the same
That scene hurts, I cried! Awesome performance!
When she put that additional tremble on top of her vibrato in the last few seconds of “wake”....What?
Lea was absolutely amazing as always playing Fantine. She’s my favorite one. She was almost good enough for me to ignore how terrible the actor who played Val Jean was
leah salonga is a blessing to music industry,,,
Nice! Her acting was very good! I almost cried like I did when I saw this scene for the first time in the movie
I think out of all the singers who sang this song. Lea alone is the most accepted version of a dying person. Heartbreaking acting and singing
I can never watch this without getting tears in my eyes😭 i burst when she says “take my child”
this is a fantastic, amazing performance.

We have been blessed by Lea
can't believe she received only 1 Tony Award for her Broadway debut
I cried so much and still do when I sing or hear this song
I. AM. IN. TEARS. Goodness gracious, Ms Lea!!!
And the BEST UNDERACTING AWARD goes to Jean Valjean
Yes one thing can be said about her performance: she is amazing!!! This is exatly why I adore her. she was amazing in the 25th but here with the acting and everything my gosh ;) Best Fantine ever!
Lea, you never fail to put so much emotion when you sing. :"> This was just wonderful. You nailed especially the last note. Ha!
lea did it well!boom!
bravo. the emotions seeped through the screen.
Love Lea Salonga!
huhu...i cried so much playing this video over and over again...pls dont post something like this again...huhu...thanks for the video...
oh my god, that was truly heart wrenching...
tearjerker
Wow. She did Fantene's role din pala. I love Lea!
she died in Les Mis, She died in Miss Saigon. you always give me the chills Lea.
Ms Lea salonga😍
Am I the only one who thought the man when fantine died was like: well, this is awkward!
It's not fair on lea as she acted so well and the stupid dude ruined the emotion. His acting wasn't enough to justify how good leas acting really was.
leahwhereuat It was very good till the guy did his acting out of pace.
TheDHEL13
yea he seemed like he was rushed
leahwhereuat well, he was facing a confrontation with Javier
leahwhereuat true
Agree 😡
I swear those people are coughing are already crying...
I want to replay it but I don't want to see her dying. huhuhuhu
this song always makes me cry.
Dammit, who's cutting these onions?
the song "come to me" came from the "on my own" song... they just changed the lyrics... but still wonderful!!
omayy this brought me to tears
Lea is freaking amazing yes, but so are other fantines, eponines, and kims... They just don't get as much attention as lea
Because they are not as amazing as Lea :P
Well when Lea plays, it seems she puts the bar higher. She originated Kim, and still the gold standard of Kim. When she played eponine in the 10th, she raised the bar for those who would play Eponine after her
most emotional part of the play
AMAZING JOB LEA I LOVE YOU
the best fantine!!
She only played Fantine in 2007 during the Broadway revival run of LesMis as a replacement for Daphne Rubin-Vega.
A tear? Jesus, I'm bawling.
the best fantine and eponine ever. #LEASALONGA
Yeah, but I was referring to ACTUAL stage productions, not to one or two-night only concert versions. Lea also played Eponine on the Broadway stage in 1993.
He sounds like Raoul from Phantom Of the Opera!🤣
I have never seen someone who has moments to live have so much energy. Caissie Levy is the only Fantine that plays it as if she is at deaths door.
Heartbraking performance.
i thought somone in the audience was coughing and i was like "damn, are you oKAY?"
amazing!!
If only they cast lea to orginate this role in the revival instead of Daphne Ruben Vega ,Lea could have gotten her second Tony .she replace Daphne and stayed longer than Daphne's stint and boost tikets sales during her stint
Watching in 2020.
Oh my gosh, doesn't it clearly state in the title that this is Lea SALONGA? Broadway legend? Not to mention their singing styles are completely different!
Superb!
Please tell me someone else cried so i know im not going insane
Could easily be interpreted as 'at this moment, I'm not that important. You know it's me, but the focus is on Fantine'
Kim died. Fantine died. Eponine died. Why is her character always dying :< btw hello from 2019 😅
I suddenly wondered about this - anyone else play so many characters who die on Broadway? Let's limit that to musicals. And beyond that - characters who sing and die?
somebody's cutting onion! my eyes!!!!
I almost cried...
I cryyyy 😭😭😭
@ghostlylighthouses, an actress playing Fantine in tge musical professionally has never had to cut her hair and I dont believe Lea did. And as a side note Anne Hathaway would fall under the category of "Doing Les mis as a musical professionally"
Im not crying you are
"Take--I will keep you warm." Anyone else notice that?
You know what? This scene in the book is much WORSE for her... :(
The nun was like "I don't know whatto do, cough drops weren't invented yet" ha
Someone crying in the background
Does any one relies that this song start with the instrumental from the epilogue and the epilogue begins with come to me?
I think it was "Then I will keep you warm"..
