    As a beginner (rated 1000), I love Michael's videos. While I appreciate the brilliance of GM games, I just can't operate at their level. Michael makes things relatable, easy to understand, and entertaining. I can't get enough, thank you for doing these videos.

      Exactly. There should be more videos about beginner games because when we play against our level's opponents we do not face those teoretically positioned stuff but much more likely a very opened game with lots of trading and hope relying traps. And I don't see much lectures on those. That's why I like Mike Kummer's videos

      The way you're thinking is good however, most advanced players don't like him because he's teaching all the wrong things to the kids

    I enjoy this man's teaching style. He comes across as the 'average' player trying to teach beginners with simple concepts and no arrogance. Ty for these videos!

    Super awseome. For all those complaining you're prolly not begginers so watch a more in depth video. For me it's helpful to have that kind of explanation, very very useful. So don't try to make it feel like he's not helping cause he does, in a big way. Just maybe not you

    I'm not a beginner (mediocre 1600ish), but I still enjoy watching this dude's videos. Funny and gives good reminders of basic principles. Akobian is the best IMO (especially for advanced play), but I still enjoy Mike's vids.
    Josephus - "full of himself" ??? You gotta be kidding. Dude seems as down to earth as they come.
    Love the Kummer vids.

    Hi Mike ! Thanks for sharing this simple and informative video ! I am chess coach and i enjoy teaching this awesome game to beginners. So i can understand and appreciate your efforts ! I just want to answer your question in the end game after black plays f6 " How would we finish black off here ?
    I liked your moves and ideas but i think more simpler was 1.Qxf6+,Kd7 2.Qf7+,Kd8 or Kc8 3.Rh8# !

    At 24:00, why doesn't black take the pawn? Maybe because after Qxa2, Ra1 threatening the Queen which can be followed by Rxa7, cracking the black king's defenses. I believe Black saw this, and thus moving his king to b8 to defend that a7-pawn.

    from watching this, I've grown as a chess player. Before I just thought of development --> best openings----> purpose, now I've learned that playing with a purpose is better :)

    kummer says alot of wrong stuff but... the way he teaches is one of the best possible ways for the begginers. they don't need proper tactics in 5 moves or understanding of which pawn endgame will be after e4 Nf3 Bb5... they need simple ideas and avoiding blundering a piece at first. That's the point. plus he is funny. Think more wise

    Ein Springer am Rand, bringt Kumme rund Schand^^ The best translation I have ever heard oes like: A Knight on the side I will not oblidge. It's the most fitting in my opinion.
    He sure has a loud an clear voice. However, he - like Ben Finegold- seems to be a little full of himself^^

    Why does he not want his opponent to play d5 so much?

    • @extrams0
      @extrams0 8 лет назад +1

      he explains in the beginning: his main objective was to play white pawn to d4 (prtected from the black knight by the queen), then that pawn to d5 (threatening the black knight, protected by queen and pawn on e4)

  • @Galahad54
    @Galahad54 7 лет назад

    After 5. ... Bc5, 6. Na4 wins a pawn with 6. ... d5 7. Nc5 (not 7. Bb5+ c6) bc4 8. Qc4.

    16:10 "Advantage endgame for white" - engine says it's even ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • @andrewferguson6901
      @andrewferguson6901 6 лет назад

      if you play like an engine it's even. If you play like a human I'd sure prefer white in that position

    • @GaunerHoch3
      @GaunerHoch3 6 лет назад

      Well 'perfect play' is the general assumption for evaluating positions.
      Sure Mike could even play this position with black against me and will win the game, but that doesn't mean black's position is better.
      My initial point is just that he saw two double pawns and therefore claimed an advantage for white which I found very suspicious. So I checked with an engine.

  • @midonik16

    Why do people like this guy? It'd be bearable if he were to prepare for his lectures, but he is just unprepared. I love his analysis when he says "yeah, I played this, whatever." or "what is so good about this amazing tactic? nothing... oh well". Maybe he's good for people who started playing chess a month ago, but please... Many of us want to see great lectures by those witty Grandmasters! Mr Finegold, elderly Seirawan and Akobian all share their vast knowledge with us, mere mortals. This guy though... I don't know about him!

      Ha ok, so I guess you want more of the good stuff, that's fair enough. Still there's a lot of beginners out there that need the very basics and I think Mike is as prepared as he needs to be to teach them something here.
