After watching Pannenkoek's half a press Watch for Rolling Rocks video, I can confidentially say the humor of this masterpiece quintupled for me. Knowing what Mario is talking about and the reference material, enhanced the jokes so much. Also the way you interpreted the whole strategy into the fight, from the 12 hour build up, the 4 parallel universes line, the misaligned qpus, and the scuttlebug hopping as a way to break the multiverse and defeat fox in all universes. This video is truly a masterclass of the internet, even 3 years later.
_-You Uncultured Swine !-_ Have not you watched one of Pannenkoek2012's legendary SM64 commentary videos? There's loads of references about it in the video; Specifically his video “Watch for Rolling Rocks done in 0.25x A presses”
3:55 "How could he be faster than half an A press?!" So Super Mario 64 runs at 30 fps, by pause buffering, you can input on every frame, but according to the video description, Fox is from Melee, which runs at 60 fps, making Melee Fox actually faster than half an A press
4:54 the line, "I have achieved unlimited speed... but nowhen to put it" is MASSIVELY underrated. It's not just some hyperbole for poetic use. It is literal, as he is beyond the event horizon of the black hole, where time is essentially frozen
@@lucaswashington9285 They would still see him. Time is frozen. Even if he eventually managed to escape, he is also simultaneously trapped in the black hole. He always has been, and he always will be.
He isn't beyond the event horizon of a black hole. He IS a black hole. As your speed increases, so does your mass. So eventually (before unlimited speed) you would just become a black hole in everyone else's reference frame.
Actually, according to relativity, in every inertial system, the speed of light is constant. So, he 'can' see the light, but in that case, spacetime will bend. Also, becoming faster than light is impossible. Don't whoosh me now
1:25 My favorite thing about this shot is that, if you slow down the video, you can see that on every frame, Fox is only there as one, and in-video he is moving from place to place I honestly really like this since most animated shows just straight up have two entities on screen when something like that happens.
Making multiple copies in one frame is an animation trick for making things look fast. But true to video game logic, he has to be in one place at one frame, and a different one in another.
The black whole thing is actually quite interesting. In N64, parallel universes are accessed by causing position data to overflow beyond the software's integer limits, but this can completely crash the game if you're not carful with quarterstep alignment. In many theories, black holes are described as the result of information density in a physical system becoming too high for our usual understanding of space and time to be applicable. The main idea here is that because Mario's PU movement was disrupted, it created a system so informationally dense that it collapsed into a black hole.
Fox survives in at least one universe. At the end of the video, Mario digs Fox out of the rubble to shake his hand. Then, in true TerminalMontage fashion, they both explode. The end.
Honestly, the most amazing bit of attention to detail here in my opinion is the fact that, at 3:01 Mario actually BLJs off of Fox, and while it's played up for the gag he does need something to jump against, a slope, or even a certain rising platform, otherwise you can't build up speed since he loses it all. The fact that people still find so much stuff in all your videos years later is amazing! 👍
It's actually kinda clever how this works, so Mario can't perform a BLJ on a flat surface or at least gain substantial speed but if the surface is either moving horizontally or a slope Mario then can perform a BLJ now normally final destination is a flat stage that doesn't move but as we see fox hits Mario into a hole which he then performs (assuming frame perfect) a BLJ which he technically will gain speed since they are in melee which runs at 60 fps while Mario 64 only runs on 30 and there you can pause buffer to hit the A button on every frame the same can probably be applied here so he gains speed twice as fast now let's assume his backwards long jump speed is -15 as it is in sm64 which sets up the equation to set up how much speed he gains which is his current value (which we'll use as X here) divided by 2 and subtract the time he is on the ground which is 0.4275 for the one frame he is on the ground (that number is calculated from the original time in sm64 which is 0.855 and since melee runs at twice the speed that number gets cut in half) with that in mind Mario does 22 BLJ's after he recovers which sums up to about −112227.414 speed (assuming he doesn't lose speed each time he does another BLJ) which is enough to shoot him to quite a few parallel universes which he was probably able to strategize and see what combination of inputs need to be done to get him as much speed as possible now he touched the ground but we could say he is perfectly aligning himself through the parallel universes to end up at the exact spot he was in so it looks like he isn't moving but he is so let's say from that small fight he lost about 30% of his speed which leaves him with about -33,668 speed left which is a lot but not nearly enough for what he needs but he does say that he was gaining speed 12 hours before this match began which means before the match even began he had -58,320,000 speed which is absurd so applying calculations from earlier he now has - 17496000 speed which is a huge number for context Mario only needs about -500 speed to go up the infinite staircase so yeah with this speed he is able to grab four of of his parallel universe copies strategize on how to beat up fox input to input and bring them to the main universe in 1 frame not even a sec a frame so after that the universe catches up and the other Mario's well crash due to their quarter steps not being how they should now Mario wants to beat fox in every parallel universe (which technically theirs infinite parallel universes and Mario's speed can't reach infinity well it could but it would take days just mashing start and A every frame which that's time he doesn't have) but he does perform 32 more BLJ's on Fox before he sets off so he has -58320000 speed now add on−525019539108.024 yeah that gets you −525077858296.757 which is probably enough to get Mario to all the parallel universes he wants also Mario isnt only 4 parallel universes ahead he is more like 4000 now thank you for listening to my Ted talk and if someone wants to figure out fox's speed go right ahead (also this is not 100% accurate this is just me trying to figure it out with my own knowledge)
Oh wow! Okay, guys, slow down the video to .25 at 1:58 Mario appears at 2:00 for a single frame. Fox might have actually been right, he was chasing MARIO'S AFTERIMAGE THE ENTIRE FIGHT!!!
if Mario was indeed building up speed 12 hours before the fight even began, and that he is not pushing against a wall to contain such speed, this means that during the whole first par of the fight, he was constantly in a state of instability (you can see it when he reflect fox's bullet) and basically going to a parallel universe, changing the orientation of the momentum, coming back in the universe where fox is to be in the same position as before for a fraction of a second, then going back, and this for the whole fight. Mario was basically fighting a 3d being while moving constantly in 4d. astonishing (excuse me if I have misspelled some words)
I just love this animation so much. Everything from the random button mashes from fox in the beggining to the realization that Mario just got the upper hand when Fox made the crater, giving him a slight incline to build BLJ speed. The memes, the animation, the sounds, the anime references. It's truly a masterpiece.
wouldn't the SMW Mario be more powerful since in SMW you can do ACE, which basically just means you can use a glitch to write and execute your own code in the Console's memory other than the amount of Memory you have free there is not really any limit of what you can't do with ACE... it's literally like reprogramming parts of the game
When faced with a door underwater, speedrun Mario does not attempt to drain the water or swim to the door and just open it while under water, he enters hyperspace and intersects a different universe every quarter frame until he is able to use his warp velocity to reenter the prime universe where he wants. I think there is a chronological timeline for all the Nintendo “Something about” animations, but it needs research about the speedruns and pannenkoek2012
I have a feeling we have a similar type of ending to the legendary pokemon royale, when you're dealing with multiverse characters like that there can only be a sort of relative victory, depending on how many versions of fox lived vs died : /

"The emptiness of the Void kept up it's constant rhythm as it flowed past out of bounds...And as time passed Speedrunner Mario...Stopped waiting...And stopped thinking"
I'm pretty calculating the proper alignment in the multiverse to summon a Scuttlebug and groundpound it to cancel your misalignments, thus allowing yourself to escape the void, is NOT having stopped thinking. In fact, it was a big brain move.
And in the In the OG hardworking animator corner, weighing in at No. 7 on trending, contending with Corporate Overlords, IT'S TERMINAL MONTAGE!!!!!!!!!!! (I did not come back to check this comment until just now) I have never even had 100 likes on anything
I think I might have just found something significant: At 2:10 within two frames, a second speedrunner mario flies on screen, replacing the original who then flies off. This means that we know for certain that fox fought at least two versions within this single fight and that there are more speed demons existing within this universe.
an important thing to note is that, whenever Fox moves fast, its always only 1 Fox per frame, if you pause at any moment you can see this however, Mario frequently has multiple Marios per frame, meaning there is multiple Marios flying around at once.
I freaking love this because: - Death Battle style but better - Anime - 2 of our favorite TerminalMontage characters facing off each other - It's TerminalMontage! His animations are the best! :D - Very epic

I think I might have just found something significant:
At 2:10 within two frames, a second speedrunner mario flies on screen, replacing the original who then flies off. This means that we know for certain that fox fought at least two versions within this single fight and that there are more speed demons existing within this universe.
an important thing to note is that, whenever Fox moves fast, its always only 1 Fox per frame, if you pause at any moment you can see this
however, Mario frequently has multiple Marios per frame, meaning there is multiple Marios flying around at once.
