  • Polytunnel gutters are expensive to buy but this idea does exactly the same but at a bargain price.
    Not many solutions are available to collect rain water from your polytunnel as it's not the easiest thing to attach anything to.
    My mate spied my polytunnel gutter which cost me a small fortune and then said why don't you use some Tile edging strips.
    And lo and behold it works just as well .
    Simply buy some tile edging and attach it with some strong double sided foam tape and it will collect all the water straight into your water butts. .
    Brilliant idea thanks to "Emottyville"
    Simple and Cheap.

    I did this two seasons ago and it's still working! Used the clear polytunnel fixing tape to stick it on. Best hack ever thanks!

    Nice! Consider putting another one (or two) above that one. When it rains hard enough to overflow the top one any others under it will catch the extra water.

    Just spent 10 mins looking at a more professional, over engineered and more expensive system for a high production tunnel. This is a great idea for a small domestic tunnell Dan. I'm doing this one !! cheers

    Brilliant. I bet the tap cost more than the guttering. I hope it works well. It's amazing what you can find when you look.

  • @michbushi

    good stuff, although as you can see it will overflow quickly. Easiest fix - tape them one above another, maybe three or four of them (to be tested) - i.e. each one down, will overflow "less", eventually, collecting all water that goes down.
    secondly, instead of using double sided foam, you might use polytunnel repair tape, puitting half of the strip on top of the flat piece, and the other half to the poly. This way I think it will be even better, and certainly more robust & last for evah

    I've left a total of 4 comments on your videos, none of which were trollish, such as "what type of soil are you using" or "can you help me I didn't understand". I think in this circumstance, I started to leave a comment addressed to the person I had just finished watching on another video in a different tab on my browser. Realizing my mistake, I hit the post instead of just closing the browser tab. It was an honest mistake, sorry.

  • @SimonRichardMasters

    Yes, good idea, but I can't see it handling downpours. What you are going to collect is a fraction of all the rain that falls - no bad thing

    • @taleyajoinson4703
      @taleyajoinson4703 5 лет назад

      that's the thing with poly though, you can't really fit full guttering due to the way it's shaped and constructed. At least this way you have some capture.

    Hi youdanxxx I just spent the best part of 15 minutes trying to locate your "how to" video on how to make a netted tunnel thingy but I think you've removed the video I was looking for 😱lol please can you post it again if you don't mind? I think you used some sort of blue water piping and the netting with a frame and a stapler but I needed to know what it's technical name was because I'd sound a bit of a twat going into the nearest diy shop asking for "blue piping stuff to make a vegetable net tunnel thingy..." Hopefully you see this but you may not as I'm a bit crap at working Google lol any who! Take care chap! Let me know if you get a spare moment :-)) x

    Am I missing something? 1m of this cheap alternative, x 6m polytunnel, x both sides comes to 12m. Even at only £1 per metre, that's £12. Plus the sticky stuff from ebay. Surely the £15 pack is a good price?

    • @Allotment-diaryUk
      @Allotment-diaryUk  8 лет назад +1

      The £15 pound pack does 2 metres and drops off after a year and isn't UV stabilised and cracks.
      I'll let you do the maths.
