Performance Note: The latest Bios update I did in the video seems to have increased the performance for video export a bit. I got around 17FPS for exporting this video in 4K.
I'm not immediately in the laptop market. But the tip about editing in Resolve in HD and changing it to 4K before export is a good idea, even on a fast desktop. The animated titles I use don't play back well during editing, although they're always fine on export.
Nice video mate, I Invested in ASUS ROG M16 with RTX 3070, it doesn't have a problem with the screen bleeding and it's a QHD 16" 165Hz, 500nits high refresh panel. Also you'll get high power, 8GB graphics card for your videos, your XPS is probably much weaker 60W RTX 3050 with 4GB. It's about 2kg so not too heavy. The only laptop I would consider getting instead of this one would be one the new MacBooks pro, either 14" or 16" (and I'm life-long PC user, never considered them before until now). It sounds like you're doing some of your work 'on the go' and one of the biggest benefits of new M1 Macs is that they give you the same performance output, whether it's plugged in or not, which is brilliant in my opinion.
Cant go Mac, used MacOS in past a lot at work and hate the Eco System ;-) But the new Macbooks are killer! My Dell works fine though, traveling for 3 months with it now. Performance is in my Workflow sweetspot. But yea, faster would always be better. The rog also sounds awesome. Had been looking at Asus before my purchase but didant like form factor.
Great video, and I see in the comments you mentioned PWM flicker on the OLED version, that quickly killed my intention on buying the OLED version :( such a beautiful laptop though
Yea, I read it in the review done by Notebookcheck here -> www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-XPS-15-9510-Review-Multimedia-Laptop-convinces-with-new-OLED-Panel.554277.0.html It's quite a low frequency and this got me cautious
@@mibreit-photo wow just under 60Hz, I wonder if the gigabyte aero 15 OLED had the same issue. That laptop gave me headaches. Thanks a bunch for the info! I look forward to more of your videos :)
@@mibreit-photothank you! very much appreciated man! does that ease the use of monitor on the eyes 👀 ? is it a useful thing? i am using the pc monitor a lot and thinking to buy such stuff if it really does help…
Excellent presentation. I’m curious, how come you didn’t go for Apple laptop? Most creatives and photographers use Mac’s, so I’m just wondering what kept you with Windows.
I really like the hardware of the Apple products, especially with the new M1s. But for me - personal thing - using a Mac feels a bit like locking myself into the Apple Ecosystem. This system is great, no question. But I prefer Windows as it gives me more choices
You can run Windows in Parrallels on these new M1 Macs if you really miss Windows ecosystem. They're so powerful that they can run 2 Operating Systems at a time without any hiccups lol
This is the best review for this laptop on youtube! I'm a graphic designer and I'm very interested in buying this laptop. How about the fan noise, because I will work about 8-10 hrs/day? Can a cooling pad help to reduce the temps a bit? Thanks
I've now had it for one year of travels and typically the fan is no issue. But If I do video editing the fans will kick in and be noticeable. Same when I import photos into lightroom and get them converted. But it's not a high pitch noise, which would be very annoying. What software do you use most often? Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop? If your room is not too hot the fans should not get too loud. Video editing is the thing that gets them going really, and some filters in Photoshop. When I work in my office, I have the laptop on one of those small stands, which improves airflow and cooling. PS: There is a new version out I think, which a more efficient cpu. Maybe it manages heat even better.
@@mibreit-photo Thanks for the answer, you helped so much! From some comments and reviews I thought that its very loud and hot. Im working in illustrator and photoshop, a bit heavier files most of time (catalogues with about 20-30 pages per file or complex photomanipulation). Its possible that the 17 inch model is better due to better cooling, but this one looks great because its more compact.
@@banexer I would just try it myself. When I ordered the predecessor, I tested it and I didn't like it because of the display - so I simply returned it and got a refund. Eventually that's the best thing you can do, test for yourself and if it doesn't suit your needs, return it
@@banexer Yes I still have the 9510 version. Those should be much cheaper by now after Dell has announced the new version. Only thing that might have been nice for me would have been 32gb Ram. I have 16gb and it works because I don't do extreme multitasking. But 32gb might be a good improvement
Thanks for the very helpful video. I am trying to decide between the 15.6" OLED and UHD+ touch screens. I do photo editing and will use it connected to a external monitor at home. The video is not clear which screen you decided on. Did you buy the UDH+? if so why?
I have the Full HD version. Make sure to watch the full video to see the problem with that screen. Also if you want to go with OLED, be aware of the PWM flicker that Notebookcheck found (www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-XPS-15-9510-Review-Multimedia-Laptop-convinces-with-new-OLED-Panel.554277.0.html ). That's why I went with Full HD despite the bad light bleeding and vignette
That's a too specific question for me. I can only answer the question for creative use. But the power this machine has should also be sufficient to run some virtual machines. But I would make sure to get the 32gb version then
I’m still fairly new to the security space (halfway through my degree) but it’s been able to handle VMs and work great in most every way. The only frustration might be the lack of ports. It’s just 4 usb-c, so you’ll need adapters if you do any physical pentesting
I will just copy my answer from below ;-) Too expensive, less battery life, PWM Flicker. Also I was hoping Dell had fixed the full HD Screen by now, since its the second Iteration with the thin bezels.
Ja funny right. This Monitor is 10 years old ;-) It's only SRGB too, which is ok since even the labs where I print only use SRGB. About the resolution: I'm so used to it that I actually have problems judging sharpness of photos on a high-res display, it always looks sharp unless I go to 200% view then. I would actually buy a Full-HD display again.
I am not sure about CAD. Have a Look at Dell Precision. Same Laptop but with Nvidia Quadro card, If I'm not mistaken. Drivers are optimized for CAD in those cards
@@khoaoanang681 The XPS 9710 could be worth a look, too. Unlike the XPS 15, the 17 has a vapor chamber which provides much better cooling, allowing the device to fully utilize the CPU without throttling.

Having this laptop for the past two years, it is an absolute joke they market it to creatives. My 9570 was much better quality even though it has its own problems. I have the screen vignetting, the oversaturated colors which thankfully isn't a problem when using color managed apps like LR, Premiere etc (make sure you are using gpu colors). Otherwise the laptop is mediocre at best for content creation with overheating, loud fans, and embarassingly slow LR performance especially after Windows 11 update (DO NOT UPDATE TO WINDOWS 11).
Guess I keep Windows 10 then ;-) after 2 years of use I have adjusted to the quirks. But for the price it could have been better for sure. But I also abused it on a year of travels, so for that it held up nicely
@mibreit-photo yes, it has held up after two years and 100 flights for me as well. But for the price (almost $3000 US), I expect a little more on the tech side.
