    My Massey and red equipment are about 20 years older than yours and a lot smaller, and not as many acres. I do it just because I can and it is so peaceful listening to the tractor and equipment doing it's thing. I plant corn and harvest it with a 1 row picker. It is all very satisfying.

      One thing that JT did not account for was time - time to cultivate, spray, plant and then later on, harvest and transport. All of that is worth money and needs to be included in the costs as well

    • @jtsbarnngrill6873

      Totally agree with you David, and as JT has said he already has 15 hrs spent on it, then another how many it will be to harvest and transport it.
      Fortunately for us though that watch his channel he has said a few times and once again in one of his latest videos that this isn’t his job but just a hobby that he loves doing. 👍

    I’m glad you included the financial breakdown to many people don’t understand what’s involved. Many years ago my dad wanted me to raise pigs 🐖 . I asked what’s the profit margin he didn’t know, so I started raising pigs and found the profit margin was $2.00 dollars per pig so I told my dad that and he said that some of the cost you can’t take into account, I said you better count all your cost . If you don’t how do you know if you made any profit or just loosing money. Farming is a gamble and a business.

      Not all farming is a business because not all farmers grow things to sell for profit. Some do it for self-sufficiency so they're not relying on grocery stores. We actually just tried our hands at raising pigs and bought a couple last September. They were just harvested today and will be processed in the coming days. We won't know how well we did quality wise until we get the meat back from the butcher. But what we get from both pigs will last both my older brothers family and ours a year. The trade-off is you knowing what went into the animals because you fed them, unlike buying something from the store. People have no clue what kinds of garbage they put into the meat you buy at the grocer.

    I worked for a rice farmer that ran Massey Ferguson equipment during my high school years here in southeast Texas. The very first tractor I drove for him was a Massey 1155 open cab pulling a Miller offset disk. I still remember that brand new 1805 4wd when it was brought out to the field. Smelled like a brand new car to me.

      @jtsbarnngrill6873 I'm not saying drop a 2 hour video three or four times a week, lol. I'm just saying that if you feel like running a bit longer once in a while, we wouldn't mind. Anything around a rough hour or less would probably be perfectly acceptable. You're funny, and we enjoy your company and your content. We won't get bored.
      Two other channels I watch also drop (roughly) weekly videos on weekend mornings, and they both regularly post 45-90 minute videos. They're both fun guys doing interesting things with farming and equipment. They do well in that format, and I think your followers would be onboard if you decided to lean into the runtime occasionally. Nobody would be alienated by that. Seems like the same kind of crowd watching you. Either way you go, we're here for you and what you do. 😊

    We quit farming in the 80's. At the time our main tillage tractors were an IH 1066 and 1466 black strip. We pulled a 24 ft. massey disk with 18 in. disks. That 1466 knew it had a load when you put that thing in the ground! I remember wanting an 1800 or 1805 to pull our larger equipment. Those were, and still are great tractors, as you well know. For a short time, I was a mechanic for a Massey Fergusson dealer in Missouri. This was around 1979 so I'm very familiar with the older Massey Iron. I love your videos! Brings back so many memories on several levels, THANKS!

    I do want to share this with you. After tearing up the rear end of a 1135 Massey the Rep from Massey Fergusion told my dad that he had to much weight on the tractor. We had a full rack of weights on the front of the tractor and fluid in the rear tires. He said as a example when you plow and hit a rock the tractor is so glued to the ground that the shock of hitting something isn't absorbed with the tires slipping it goes right to the rear end and blows gears out. We dropped all the weight and never had anymore problems with rear ends in our Massey tractors.

      There's a case in the courts with John Deere vs the consumers... John Deere reserves the right to have a life expectancy on their equipment as well as having an exclusive right to maintenance and service. Farmers are hacking their equipment with the help of Ukraine. John Deere took it to the courts... Farmers expecting to be doing maintenance and service on their own equipment??!!!! John Deere would have none of it... however on the 10th of January 2023 the farmers won in court... They're now allowed to do maintainance and repairs on their own tractors... The world is coming to an end... How are companies supposed to stay in business without a monopoly? Free trade... How are profitable businesses going to survive if they're going to face competition? Not to mention the uncertainty of the market... if you have to pay taxes... who's going to invest in a company that can't guarantee a fixed revenue? Paying taxes makes the investors uncertain - you don't know the return! A lot of physical products can be calculated by the amount of work put into it. However products involving intellectual property and rights can't be taxed! They're far to valuable to be taxed and should be excempted from taxes..!
      If you think this is far fetched... You should see the reasons presented to the Congress for being excempted from taxes - not like paying taxes were paid in the first place. But just the thought of having to pay taxes is unheard of.
      Luxembourg is a tax haven. Companies pay like 1/48th of a percent in taxes. In other words earning 4800USD you pay 1USD in taxes. Of course companies have to come up with something in response to that... evading the taxes...
      Farming is simply not making any economical sense - you rely on a physical product like pigs. Once sold you can't charge fees for service, insurances and the likes. It's game over once the produce is sold. Any clever merchant knows the real value is in offering a product to lure the customers in. God forbid the real value of the product is a reflection of its value... It's the extras that holds the value....

    I farmed with my father through about 1983 then I decided to do what I thought was bigger and better things. I was a salesman then a manager and ended up in law enforcement. But how I wish I would have stayed farming.
    Dad was a welder and worked the afternoon shift and farmed on the side. The tractors I remember was all Massey Fergusion. He bought a new 165 diesel , then got more land traded the 165 for a new 175 diesel. He had the for awhile then bought a farm and bought a new 1130 after a few years and more rented land He got a 1135. First cab tractor. Then more land and my favorite tractor ever was a Massy 2745. I've driven a 1805 so watching you brings back alot of awesome memories. Thank you for sharing your life with us,

    Great Video and here is hoping for 40bu/ac beans and good prices. The 1155 looks like it was just at idle, I bet it didn't even know it was pulling that drill.

    Great video and you're pretty accurate on your cost. Just think if you had a big new tractor and equipment you'd be losing money doing that field for sure.

    When harrowing the ground do you ever fill that big tank with ammonium nitrate. Then one step could be deleted on field passes.

    What ppl don’t understand is this is all estimates. I seen around my area where all it takes is one really bad storm and half the field is gone. This isn’t including cost for for expenses for having hired hands

    • @jtsbarnngrill6873
      @jtsbarnngrill6873  6 месяцев назад +1

      True about the hired hands. These were all exact costs for my input within a few bucks.

    • @jtsbarnngrill6873
      @jtsbarnngrill6873  6 месяцев назад

      I have 89 day corn, hopefully I got it in early enough, I believe my beans are 2.0. I’ve been doing that same beans for the last 4 years, they mature early so I can plant wheat if I want to

    Thanks for taking the time with this interesting content. remarkably similar process but costings in Australia higher. Most dryland farmers here make more only due to big acreages and a high world demand for high protein hard finish grains. Same jokes here; how do you spend a lottery win? Go farming! From Eyre Peninsula, South Australia.

    I farm with a lot of older equipment also , it get the job done. Most of the locals have a case of shiny fever every year after harvest. My combine is 35 years old and gets the job done ,just as well a new one , just without the payments. Everyone else at the grain co. has their semis and I just roll in with my old 2.5 ton trucks. The big difference I show a lot bigger profit then them.
