Thank you for sharing this. Breaks my heart to see these abandoned buildings. The stories that could be told if those walls could talk.
19th. century and early 20th. century Catholic churches are gorgeous. The care and craftsmanship that went into them is amazing. It appears as though there is some type of maintenance (thankfully) being done on the building and the grounds. Thank you for giving us a view of this beautiful place.
Brother the heart felt emotions you show in your videos shows respect for the old days and how far we have drifted from righteousness and cleanliness of heart and soul.. We have lost our way ... Keep up the good work ... We must find our way back...
doesnt matter if your religious or not, to let buildings like this decay is abhorrent, the craftsmanship that went into them is long gone and when they crumble we will never see the likes again, people would pay to go and visit them if used as a museum, such beauty belongs sadly to an age long gone, magnificent video could have watch for a lot longer.....
You are wrong, in that the craft skills needed to build edifices like this are no way "long gone"! There are still plenty of stone masons, carpenters etc with incredible knowledge, skills and experience. The problem lies with the financing of such a huge long term project. We aren't in the middle ages any more, when the papist hierarchy could "obtain" finance at will, and they would hire workmen, whilst meanwhile the ordinary peasants shivered in their hovels wondering how on earth they would meet the next payment to get grandmother out of purgatory. In the UK in the 19th century, we endured a "gothic revival" where all sorts of buildings including utilitarian ones such as railway stations, were designed by anglo catholic architects such as augustus pugin, and built with that quasi religious faux medieval style, and parish churches were in some cases retro fitted to make them look like pre reformation catholic ones. The results were not attractive, needless to say
I know the feeling. I was so sad to see a Poor Clair Monastery demolished in Liverpool. The small community of elderly nuns joined another community in York and I am told that too is closed. I so much wanted to be a non-priest choir monk when I was younger. I was not suited to the lay brothers life and not educated enough for the priesthood. I had enough Latin and the voice for a choir monk. I have my "choir stall" in my bedroom and a small altar where I recite or sing parts of the Divine Office which I pieced together on my computer so that it sounds like I am in choir with others. 'I have a Carthusian style cowl and scapular that nobody ever sees and I join in voice and intention with the Carthusian community at Parkminster Charterhouse, England. When it is midnight at Parkminster it is 8am where I live so I join them in reciting and offering the office of Lauds , sometimes Matins and Lauds on the big feasts of the church.
I don't think it is "abandoned," per se. There are no leaves inside the vestibule on the floor; no significant animal damage; no spiderwebs that I could see or that you commented on; the grounds look cared for; the gutters are pretty clean; there are candles on the altar; even the brass is pretty shiny.
Hi Again. I am so blown away at the beauty of this monastery. The statues are in such pristine condition. The carvings and everything is just beautiful.
Such beauty, what a wonderful video, agree to move a little slower and on some of the detail pause for a little longer to capture the images, but the rest was EXCELLENT!!

Beautiful building it cant be left to slowly decay and eventually fall down like so many old buildings do. On a personal note its so good to see someone who obviously cares about our heritage and enjoys visiting it and by your videos can share it with so many us who can not get to see it for various reasons. Keep up the great work, share your videos to make people aware of buildings and other important structures and just maybe they wont be allowed to rot and eventually fall down so that the site can be redeveloped.

Unfortunately, the description is completely wrong, this is the Former Grand Seminary Chapel in Sommervieu, Normandy, France. I believe the name of the chapel is called Chapelle Des Pelotes and this is it's brief history (originally built in the 1800s as a secondary school, which contained a massive chapel. The seminary operated until early 1900’s when the church separated from the state, in the middle of WW1 the Belgian army set up a hospital there for soldiers. And then later turned into a home for ex servicemen until it sadly closed down in 2000.) I got the information from this website : connorhicks.co.uk/chapelle-des-pelotes-france-urbex/ which contains beautiful photos taken by the owner of the site himself.
Excellent information and you are absolutely correct. The website you refer to in your link (Connor Hicks Photography) is great and well worth more than a few minutes viewing.
The gargoyles on this monastery with their "open mouths" that you pointed out and were puzzled by are actually to carry away the rainwater from the roof and direct it out of the open mouths and onto the ground and away from the foundation of the building.

There is no grafitti, the stained glass is all unbroken, no fire scorched walls, no beer bottles, condoms, needles. That place is not abandoned and is well watched and cared for.
You are correct. This is the Grand Seminary of Montreal, Canada. In the 1950's there were 350 students, as of a couple of years ago, there were 17. Some parts are underutilized and I am sure some dorms and classrooms have been closed off. Parts of the complex are registered as Canadian Historical Sites. A student who is a photographer has posted pictures on RUclips. Search Photo Doc/Grand Seminaine de Montreal/ Peter Patinaude.
The monastery is absolutely beautiful, thank you for sharing!! Our Mother Mary-Always Protects Holy Ground. The locked Tabernacle that used to house Our Lord needs to come back! All the wooden seats as you first walked in, where the monks would sing their Gregorian chants to Praise Our Lord everyday! Poor France, poor Paris, she's been through so much in time! Notre Dame & all the fires through all the years of war in the past. It's not over yet but You will once again Arise Victorious in the end! Love to All! Praise to The Triune God! Amen ♡♡♡
I like to thank you for TAKEING me along in this video. I am a poor man and would never have the means to see this place. When you went up the staircase it felt like I was there or it's spectacular views atop. It's sad that Chritianity is decaying with the Church..I know it's all about Christ always has been. But can only imagine when this church was in full swing and ppl went there to see like minded ppl of faith.. What a great video .. Lord Bless you. .Continue this brings ppl like myself to see it threw your camera. ..
This is what happens when the upper authorities turn Christianity into a business. I'm sure they were sincere when they first built it, but sin enters in.
what a lovely thought pitodinfinty. I too won't ever get here..so it's nice to be able to put yourself there thru the lens and just imagine and feel the peacefulness of it.
Just imagine the beautiful sounds of the monks or nuns singing, rising upward from their places in the benches along the walls in that huge Abbey. Would have been magnificent!
The tile floor.....beautiful! We went to London and climbed the steps up, up, up at St Pauls Cathedral. Once at top, we started to ascend a winding iron staircase to the “Golden Gallery”. My husband had to stop, he was scared of heights. The space on the winding staircase was so tight, I almost freaked out.
This is the Chapelle des Pelotes in Sommervieu, Normandy. It is a former Grand Seminary Chapel apparently modeled after the one in Montreal which was completed in 1694.
Saucerful Thank you, in the 60’s the (Roman Catholic) Church used to have worldwide vocation events to recruit clergy but that was 50 years ago so now the young ones then are old. There aren’t so many prepared for a life of poverty chastity and obedience anymore! It looks as if someone caretakes . The small metal casket was for the consecrated communion host(wafers) and was usually on the altar.
Absolutely incredible. I know this was a year ago but i get on these tips where i binge watch your explores. I love them so so much. Please do this for as long as you live. You show me a different perspective of places that ill only ever dream of seeing on the complete other side of the world. Stuck in little nova scotia canada.. thank you Dave.. so much🙏🏻❤️
What a shame to abandon such a beautiful building. People will build some ugly structure elsewhere and swoon over it. I love these old buildings. I hope someone takes it over without and maintains its beauty.
You can see and feel the love, care and talent that went into building this exquisite Abbey. Very moving to experience it , thank you again. I keep coming back to it...wish I could triple LIKE this video.
when ever this monastery was built - it was built to last. where those statues were, omg... its like new inside. and the ceiling hasnt collapsed at all, such a gorgeous building. i noticed through one of the windows as you climbed - the lawns are still being looked after, loved this video. thank you for showing us... and it was good to see there has been no graffiti or damage done inside by kids or other explorers
I agree, the building is being maintained by someone even although not in use. Still beautiful and enjoyed looking round. As an ex nurse Im concerned about your continual sinus infections. If you suspect mold may be causing your sinus problems, the only way to know for sure is to get tested for fungal sinusitis by your doctor. Since fungi love damp, dark conditions, the sinus cavity is a perfect growing place, making it difficult to eliminate them once they are in place. ... Personal protective equipment needed ALL the time I fear! Not just for mould but asbestos too. Great videos btw!
what a magnificent creation! this is so amazing it is beyond words! thank you for showing us!...and your mom must be very pleased at how she raised a very respectable young man!
Absolutely Beautiful..! But It's so disappointing to be empty... It should be working and well preserved by the government. What the government is doing out there with such a beautiful peaceful place ? Love from India...
We should all respect these old beautiful buildings and be ashamed of ourselves for allowing any of them for being empty, yet alone having any single deterioration. There are so many people who would at least pay to tour these amazing structures. It is sinful that our world has so many useful buildings empty. We have so many people in the world that cannot afford a simple rooftop or any structure over their heads and yet, we would rather allow any building the opportunity to rot than open its doors to those in need. So many uses, God watches and has been observing our callus ways. We are now reaping what we globally have sowed...waste! Thank you for sharing this fabulous monastery. 💜✝️
Hmmm, actually the Bible says to worship God in Spirit and in Truth. That means God is only to be worshipped by the power of the Holy Spirit , and by the truth of His Word which is Jesus Christ. The monks did not do that. They worshipped false idols and Mary and the saints- something the Lord specifically tells us NEVER ever to do. God says there is only One Mediator between God and man and it is Jesus Christ. Jesus also said no one comes to the Father but by Me. That means you can't go to the Father through Mary and you can't go to the Father through the saints, but only by Jesus Christ alone can you reach the Father. The catholic church is filled with paganism and pedophiles and does not follow the true teachings of the Bible but rather warps them and twists scripture to meet its own religious requirements rather than God's own Word. Just remember that satanists, witches, and Santeria all use crosses and statues of saints and Mary and Jesus to practice their evil religions too. Religious articles isn't what makes us religious, and God even told us not to use them or make them. Christianity is about following GOD'S word, not diminishing it to appease the catechism and the pope's point of view.
@@GameChanger597 Catholics do not worship idols.. it's a false propaganda you people make knowingly or unknowingly.. after all every christian owe to catholic monks for preserving the Holy Scriptures.. they dedicated their lives for learning, copying, translating and preserving the book in tact throughout the first 14 centuries AD.. Until in 1455 when J Gutenburg printed the first copies of the Bible it was manuscripted by the christian monks.. Protestants forget that their Sola Sciptura was possible only by Catholic Monks dedicating their likes.
I think what I find interesting about this and the abandoned asylum that I watched previously is the lack of graffiti. I was truly impressed that the structures weren't defaced with paint, and while that made me happy, the fact that these facilities have not been repurposed and left to rot is a crime. Your enthusiastic explorations are truly enjoyable. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Dave - I watched this one several years ago and returned to watch it again today. The music in the introduction is just beautiful; I love the strings and the bass. The drone footage is excellent as well.
GREAT VIDEO. THANKS. Being raised Catholic I thought at first this was simply a church and rectory on the side. However, it is a monastery. The statues up on the walls are Catholic Saints and used to pray roseries and are called stations if I recollect rightly. Catholics are very much into rituals. The Stations and Rosery is a ritual the occupants of the monastery would perform.
Totally amazing ,My name is Brett from the United States of America the state of Alabama the city of Scottsboro thank you for your work that is so beautiful I just think that that place you just showed right there had more reason than just a monastery I think it was something more spectacular than we even know
By looking at the surroundings and inside the building (monastery), the place doesn’t look abandoned. Someone seems to be maintaining it. It’s not being used but absolutely not abandoned. I have seen many buildings like this in Europe, and many such unused and old buildings (castles, monasteries, mansions) are turned into museums.
For Mary Palm and others who may be interested, the former seminary is at Sommervieux in the départment of Calvados in Normandy. The site had been that of the country house of the Bishop of Bayeux since 1477, the original house being destroyed in the 18th century. In 1838 the seminary was established and the main buildings erected 1838-51 to the design of Edouard Le Forestier who, however, died before the chapel was built. The work was continued by l'Abbé Alexandre Noget-Lacour and the chapel opened in 1891. At the separation of church and state in France in 1906 the seminary commandeered by the state and served as a military hospital during the First World War. It was returned to the Diocese of Bayeux at some time after the Second World War and was used as a holiday home for children (colonie de vacances) and more recently two different lay communities, the Chemin Neuf and Charles de Foucauld group used it. It was sold in 2016 to a local couple who are retoring the main building at present and have plans to restore the chapel. You can see more pictures: www.bcd-urbex.com/chapelle-des-pelotes-france/ and www.obsidianurbexphotography.com/religious/chapelle-des-pelotes-france/
Chateau and Former Grand Seminary Chapel in Sommervieu, Normandy, France The site includes a 19th-century chateau and chapel, located on the site of a medieval castle which no longer exists. The seminary was in use until 1906 and the property was recently sold to a private owner from the village.
Wow what an awesome building everything about it floors ceiling carvings windows just amazing. 1 thing for sure we will never c another 1 like it because no 1 could build that 2 day another lost trade really sad actually, the young of 2 day need 2 learn real trades.that was a fantastic visit thank you 👍always enjoy your exploring 😃
The cost of maintaining a structure like this must be enormous - so I fear it will not be maintained and will fall to ruin and vandalism. The only structures like this that I've seen "saved" have been much smaller and newer churches that have been repurposed into homes and business losing some of their original beauty in the process. “Nothing in the world is permanent, and we’re foolish when we ask anything to last, but surely we’re still more foolish not to take delight in it while we have it.” ― W. Somerset Maugham
Absolutely NO WAY is this place abandoned, as clean as the floor and the artwork is. NO WAY. Click bait. It's beautiful, I'll give you that...but, someone is keeping this place clean.
Thank you David, for NOT walking out on that ledge. I thought you were going to and I was holding my breath. That monastery should be a museum. Imagine when that was built, with limited tools and mostly back-breaking labor? Unbelievable.
All the time it must have taken hundreds of men to build it and now left to rot ! It’s more than sad, it’s heartbreaking :-) i must say that I love your choice of music, don’t change anything :-)
It was not built by us . We could just about build it in 2020 .its a power generation system built by a race before us ...think about building it with horses . impossible..
That introduction flying above this monastery is breathtakingly beautiful, I haven't even watched the video yet but must commend you for your work so far. Blessings to you and your crew!
wow... what a waste to see this incredible work of art just sitting there a true shame. but thank you for sharing people like myself would never get to see places like this if it were not for people like you.
It bothers me such magnificent buildings are left abandoned. This is where the state should step in a preserve it instead of wasting tax payers money on foolishness.
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE to see your awe & love your respect. The lighting & the music was beautiful. Liked your comment about you& your mum...we all want to feel the love of the Mother🤱. 🙏🕍✝️maybe covid will bring us all back to worshipping
This is not a monastery, but the Grand Séminaire de Sommervieu in Normandy : It is not abandoned. The "monks" still play there. While the building is not very well up kept, my advice, don't go back there. The Kings on the walls are a testament to the Building. Even in 1990, the Mayors of the towns around Normandy visited to do business. This is not a safe place to be, at any time. (unless you knock on the front door and ask for a tour) You would probably get one.
Hi there it was a local that let us in and said due to funds this place isnt being used but they use the building in front of it. It's a beautiful place I loved every minute of it.
Iv been watching a lot of your video, but this one was amazing, I’m in ore at the beauty of this monastery/ church/ cathedral, Iv just Supported your channel, and love to see more, I love exploring and finding places, you find some of the best abandoned places Iv seen 👍😊
I'm surprised that a monastery was built in 1864 as they were all closed and lands confiscated by King Henry VIII in a land grab operation. I thought they were probably outlawed after he started the Church of England. Monasteries were identified with the Catholic religion. It was a great tour - thank you.
Thank you for sharing this video. Absolutely beautiful. I don't care if you broke in, or snuck in. It's a wonderful place and I am glad you filmed it and shared it...😊😎
This place has not been abandoned ,it been given official state heritage , it is still used to bury Sulpician priests . The building attached in the gardens is a private Boys school so you could have got permission to go In and view it .
so beautiful... a building of this magnificence should be maintained and preserved...

Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful monastery. What a site to behold.
The box isn't for holy water, it's called a tabernacle and is where holy communion that has been consecrated is kept
True, the holy water would've been just outside the doors, at the top of the stairs in that circular pedestal.
You can see and feel the love, care and talent that went into building this exquisite Abbey. Very moving to experience it , thank you again. I keep coming back to it...wish I could triple LIKE this video.
Absolutely agree! This world is going crazy. Such places should not get abandoned anywhere!
A big church should purchase that & make it into a great house of worship!
when ever this monastery was built - it was built to last. where those statues were, omg... its like new inside. and the ceiling hasnt collapsed at all, such a gorgeous building. i noticed through one of the windows as you climbed - the lawns are still being looked after, loved this video. thank you for showing us... and it was good to see there has been no graffiti or damage done inside by kids or other explorers
Like all old monastaries every inch of themis a work of art, great to see this place doesn't have any mindless tagging graf on the walls.
I've been told that any callow youth attempting this would be quickly arrested by the armed guards, and given some severe corporal punishment.
Why don't you think about filling them with young holy monks from around the globe..?
Almost unbelievable that anyone would allow such a grand building to fall into such disrepair! Just stunning...truly!
WHY WHY WHY? Someone please rescue this place! Great job!
A Monastery's beauty does not lies in its architecture but in the monks and worshippers worshipping in it.
What a true waste, I hope someday someone restores that gorgeous church!
How great how can these beautiful buildings go into neglect, God bless you for sharing
They must have known geometry in 1864. It's so well balanced and pleasing to the eye, even from the air. Stunning.
Civilization. I almost forgot how beautiful and decent it was.
Logos!
What makes you think its actually abandoned? It is really well maintained, clean with fire extinguishers and candles etc!
Hi Dave - I watched this one several years ago and returned to watch it again today. The music in the introduction is just beautiful; I love the strings and the bass. The drone footage is excellent as well.
Amazing video sir. Keep up the good work and bring more great videos like this one.
Jesus Christ through Mary, Jesus Christ in Mary. St Louis DeMontfort. Very sorry to hear you lost your faith. You are in my prayers.
This building should be looked after and used its absolutely stunning....Thank you for sharing your video with us.
The choice of music is perfect, its evocative, atmospheric, mysterious and a little sad.
Incredibly beautiful and still the holiness is present.
Thank you so much for putting this location to rest,i was very doubtful this pommy trespasser made it to Montreal Canada.
So stunning!! Beautiful video, the music alone evoked deep emotion out of me. Just brilliant! Can’t wait to watch the next, thanks for sharing!
Chateau and Former Grand Seminary Chapel in Sommervieu, Normandy, France
The site includes a 19th-century chateau and chapel, located on the site of a medieval castle which no longer exists. The seminary was in use until 1906 and the property was recently sold to a private owner from the village.
If I were there I'd want to sit and meditate for a while. Don't you ever feel that way?
“Nothing in the world is permanent, and we’re foolish when we ask anything to last, but surely we’re still more foolish not to take delight in it while we have it.” ―
Please don't let vandals destroy this house of God. So beautiful and ageless. Don't see churches like this anymore.
@no 0 God should start building a ASDA with your house first.
Hope somebody saves this building. Nothing like that will be built again.
wow... what a waste to see this incredible work of art just sitting there a true shame. but thank you for sharing people like myself would never get to see places like this if it were not for people like you.
The architecture is stunning! The details and design.... amazing and beautiful!
Heartbreaking, but the beauty and majesty is still uplifting.
Such a beautiful structure and artwork. It looks strong and safe to inhabit. I wonder why was it abandoned?
That is correct. And the building he visited is the chapelle.
Great video of a holy and beautiful place. Your recording is respectful and very mindful of the monastery 's history.
Iv been watching a lot of your video, but this one was amazing, I’m in ore at the beauty of this monastery/ church/ cathedral, Iv just Supported your channel, and love to see more, I love exploring and finding places, you find some of the best abandoned places Iv seen 👍😊
Sandra’s 2 Dimensional. Paranormal investigator don't you think I just made a heartfelt comment myself.
I'm surprised that a monastery was built in 1864 as they were all closed and lands confiscated by King Henry VIII in a land grab operation. I thought they were probably outlawed after he started the Church of England. Monasteries were identified with the Catholic religion. It was a great tour - thank you.
Its French
Thank you for sharing this video. Absolutely beautiful. I don't care if you broke in, or snuck in. It's a wonderful place and I am glad you filmed it and shared it...😊😎
This place has not been abandoned ,it been given official state heritage , it is still used to bury Sulpician priests . The building attached in the gardens is a private Boys school so you could have got permission to go In and view it .
you know this how? you found it on the internet or you have been there?
