How long does it take to make a MechaniCard? It's not an easy question to answer. But, it was fun figuring it out! For more info, visit www.MechaniCards.com.
After being a machinist/designer/prototyper for 20+ yrs,I think $95 is a lot for what it "appears" to be(just a fancy card),but no way near touches the value of as you so well stated.Your design/failure time, workers, incidentals(gotta pay taxes and ship that crap too, lol),fixture making,machinery/tools to be able to make all that tooling.People don't understand unless they have tried it.Special pliers for this(or grind up SEVERAL pairs like I do,lol),altered files,wrenches,sockets,etc..Rent (In your case)Lightg bulbs, fans, heat,MAYBE A/C?,and on and on. Great Job and a good value.Kudos!!
Very inspiring, I did not realize the amount of work that went into making this card. Your cards are amazing and beautiful. Thank you for posting the process of making the cards.
I thank my good luck for knowing people like you, who make the most incredible ideas in real pieces of art! I hope someday I'll be able to have one. Congratulations and please keep working! Blessings!
Thanks for the kind praise :D Here's wishing you the best of luck with your own projects! I hope you'll post some videos, so everyone can appreciate what you're doing.
I take my hat off to you......... pure genius. As they say if you have to ask the price.. you can't afford it! Keep the gems coming and thanks for sharing your ideas etc.
Outstanding work Brad. I have a 75 watt Epilog laser and have cutout parts for model airplanes, custom 3 demension awards/plaques, etc. You have taken your art to the next level. Thanks for sharing. PS I've been drooling over the 3D printers....I'm sure you have also.
i was impressed when i saw the demo video, but now i've seen the "making of.." i'm amazed. Theres nothing more fascinating than watching a master craftsman creating something unique from materials that many of us have around the house.
This is pure genius Brad, Thx for sharing it with us. I found your videos when I decided to look up if something like what I had in mind - to create for a personal announcement mechanical card (for becoming a father!)- already exist. Which I was sure does but maybe mostly for inspiration. Although not affordable for one like me but your works are pieces of art Brad, priced even cheaper than what they should be. Keep up good work man. :)
Brad, you're a true Renaissance man. No one has commented yet? (afaik) on your music (other videos) but I can see the relationship between your playing/singing and your mechanicards - both Art comes through in perfect harmony. BTW, just curious - what is the make and model of of your laser cutter? It looks awesome. :-) Thanks for bringing a bit of beauty into the world.
This is such an awe-inspiring video. I've always thought about mechanisms made out of paper. I would have never thought of making them into unique cards though. That's really amazing. And for that price, I think it's way worth it. I hope someday I'll be able to buy one of these works of art. Kudos!
Amazing work as always. Real pleasure to watch you work. Dont let dumb youtube comments get to you. You're a creator in a world of know it alls. They say dumb stuff quite often.
Brad that is just too cool . I could see Davinci doing this in his study....art and science..awesome . If you are ever in Boston there is a building at MIT that has tons of gear mechanisms made ot of wood showing how motion is created . It is open to the public...I think you would enjoy it ! Love your stuff !!
oh, man I love your designs, and I can relate to the effort of making, since I've become a professional maker a few months ago, (when I quit my job) and it's been hard. But I hate the fact that I won't be buying your cards anytime soon. you see, I'm from Argentina, and an Argentinian peso is worth 5 times less than a dollar. that's a lot of money for me. But I hope you succeed and sell a lot of them, so I can get some when I get wealthier!
So nice! You've got really golden fingers, and inspiration! Thanks for this remarkable work, you're a very cool artist, Brad. Hope it's possible for you to share and send your dreams to France! I go to the contact form on your website. Right now!
One of your comments mention investment. I don't know if you're the type of person to want to go on a TV "reality show" but Shark Tank seems right up your alley. They love passionate people like you and I think you would have very good luck with those investors. But they'll probably want you to move manufacturing overseas to cut costs, I'm not sure how you'd feel about that. Anyways, good luck with your practical art :)
Your Cards are grrrreat - what a fun to watch. Gifted and talented human being you are! May I ask - how thick is the cardboard you are using? Looks more like a piece of wood to me. And such a laser machine is also fascinating to watch while working. Must cost a hell of a lot of money.. keep on building these nice cards! Regards
+xylippa cameron Thank you :) The material is a high-quality paper board; very dense and stiff. I do make some parts out of aircraft plywood, also. The laser cutter cost $16,000. But, you can get them for much less money, if you don't need a production tool.
When you said people think the price is too high I expected to see outrageous prices on your website of 200 or more dollars. I think the 50-100 dollar range is super cheap and the whole lot for 375 is a great deal. I can't wait to see the finished wooden strum you later. I want to buy one
What kind of material are those "paper" stock made of? I am seeing you have applied the grease on the paper. Wouldn't it make the paper to fall apart over time? I am sure you know what you are doing but I am just curious.
Your Cards Are Kool! Thanks for the Parts of Art View. Really Special Skill, that Mechanical Engineering. I have said, next life I'll be one; Tired of rigging many things to get one job done - still not done. ~ * peace
Bravo Brad. I think it's good to let people know how much work (and love) goes into one of these.
Now rhere's a good answer! I'm nor any of the things you are, but a sense of wonder and humor go a long way!
Very inspiring, I did not realize the amount of work that went into making this card. Your cards are amazing and beautiful. Thank you for posting the process of making the cards.

Thank you, Faride. :)
I am now the happy owner of two and one other for my daughter. Mr. Litwin is a very nice man! And he also plays the banjo!
Absolutely amazing. I will be sending the link to this presentation to each of my five adult children. I can't wait to watch more of your videos.
These are brilliant. AND as a professional guitarist myself I really enjoyed your excellent playing on your other video of the Radial engine.
Thank you for this very insightful demonstration. I am astounded as to the amount of work you put into 1 of these.
Thanks for the kind praise :D Here's wishing you the best of luck with your own projects! I hope you'll post some videos, so everyone can appreciate what you're doing.
That is so neat, sir. This video certainly makes us appreciate how much work it takes to make one of these. Thanks for creating this video.

USA, Philadelphia, PA! Right now, I have one, part time helper. Normally, I have two.
That is quite amazing how long it takes and how much work it takes just to make a card nice work
I believe it is 100% rag. There is no grease. That would certainly ruin the paper.
my wife loves the dragon fly I bought for her birthday.thanks brad!
You are very welcome! I appreciate the testimonial :)
Absolutamente hipnótico. Enhorabuena, eres muy bueno

Hey awesome work! What type of glue do you use?
Thanks! I mostly use high viscosity cyanoacrylate.
Awesome!
That's what I have thought. Oh, maybe its the glue! Haha, okay. I thought it was the grease between the gearing.
Do you ship to Colombia?
Don't know what web page you're looking at. But, it's still there in plain sight, at MechaniCards.co(m)
