Pool diving Boxer dog, he swims under water!

- This is Rex. He is a full blooded Boxer. Rex loves to swim completely underwater and dive into the pool. Rex has been on TV many times, the News, Animal planet, Yahoo news all over the internet and in Seth Casteel's book titled Underwater Dogs. Rex is the only boxer in this book. Rex has been doing this for years. Were we live in Arizona in the summers it often hits 120 out. Rex found a great way to stay cool on our hot summer days! Rex loves to play and swim with kids and show off. Its a great way for him to get in his exercise with out over heating. If you LOVE his video or have any question feel free to leave a comment.

I thought I would clear a few things up. Rex is a Boxer. I refused to crop his tail and ears. Our pool is a salt water pool. No harsh chemicals here. Where we live in Mohave Arizona, in the summers hit the 120's. Rex found a way to stay cool in the summers! I do not force Rex to swim/dive/. Rex was not trained to do this. He just jumped in the pool one day and swam to the bottom. There is no keeping Rex out of the pool! It is great exercise for him. Thank you all for your views comments!
I guess I woiuld only recommend that you keep an eye on him as he gets older. I hope that he does not attempt more than he is capable of.
We live in Florida and our Boxer Pearl loves the pond. She swims in it at least 2 times a day. She has done so since we got her at 12 weeks old. My husband thought she would drown when she first got into the pond but she swam the entire length. It is a 1/3 acre pond. Yes she does dive down looking for turtles. And NO we do NOT have gators. We make sure of that. She is now 2 years old and is a very silly girl. She is Albino with 1 dark and one light eye.
So nice to see a boxer with a natural tail and ears. They are beautiful. Many have exceptional athletic talent. Rex certainly does. (EDIT: OH MY WORD. Just saw this video is 10 years old. JEEZ.)

i was born in 2003........maybe his spirit decided to enter me. But i doubt it, im a cat lover
it's sad but Boxers do not live to be very old. Every moment with a Boxer is a joy forever! They really do leave a footprint on our hearts!

I have had Rex since he was a few weeks old. He was a rescue dog just as my other 2 dogs. Rex is in the book called "underwater dogs" he is the only boxer in the book. Yahoo news rated his the number 3 underwater dog in the world. Never force you dog to swim underwater!
He is a amazing wonder dog... I hope he lives forever...

The tail has nothing to do with the dogs swimming ability. It's their legs that do all the work.
Carat Cranker no the tail let it turn
Carat Cranker the tail acts as a rudder which makes it easier to steer underwater. A great advantage since they don't have as much range of motion in their legs. Golden retrievers have excellent steering tails which is partly why they're make excellent swimmers.

Allways nice to see when dogs enjoy playing in the water. Looks he´s perfected his skills over time.

Boxers arent natural lovers of deep water I have found. But do love a nice muddy puddle to frolick in. This lad is great.

Suzanne Hinderliter because they are underestimating the ability of dogs and somehow feel Rex is being mistreated. Spoiled boy has a pool to keep cool in all summer long :) here in AZ our summers hit 120. Mistreatment would be keeping him out of the pool in this crazy heat.

I think it’s because the dog might get red eyes from having them open under the pool.
@@glendacuellar5940 most pools are salt water now. they don't need as much chlorine to hurt rex's eyes. plus no one is making rex do this. he wants to.
Hi Ford88Girl excellent comment leaving your stunning boxer alone with a beautiful tail and lovely floppy ears. As a boxer owner I know they like to do different things for play and water is one of them. My Jess loved it and would dive under the waves in the sea. Boxers are the best

I'm a Boxer Mom and I think that is amazing! We are very happy that you include your boy in your life. My daughter has memories of holding umbrellas over our boxers heads because they would not even pee in the rain :)

Wow! What amazing footage! My old boxer doggie was obsessed with water too. He used to put his head under to look for sticks to 'rescue' from the river lol Rex is an amazing swimmer though! Lovely to see a nice long tail too. Mine had a tail and you could see that it helped him balance when he was running or swimming.
That is absolutely amazing. Even watching a box for a swim is amazing enough because that’s fairly rare as they are such shorthair dogs. I had a box for 11 years and he would never go on the water passed his shoulders at the very very highest

Thank you for your concern for Rex. How ever this is a Salt Water pool. Kind of like swimming in the ocean. He is not trained or made to do this. He does it on his own, always has. In fact you cant keep him out of the pool. He truly enjoys this. It makes him happy. Rex sees a vet on a regular basis. He has never had an ear infection or any irritation in his the ear ever. I have been told by my vet that the salt water is just fine for his ear. They are squeeky clean :) Thanks for your views

Our 1st boxer was the best dog ever and our 2nd delight filled boxer was not a diver, but she could swim and dunked her head under water if she thought there was something worth getting. Our 3rd is the sweetest girl around. Great breed of dog!
