I love Melanie Chadwick and John Harrison and I feel that you perfectly captured both their styles❤️ I especially like John Harrisons clean lines. I first came across him on TV, taking part in Watercolour Challenge and was immediately drawn to his style. My Art Creations 'low pressure' sketchbook (inspired by you) arrived this morning so I might have to give this exercise, or something similar, a go🤓

I don't agree that you are not a good artist, you are superb at doing your art. It may not look like another artist's style that you are trying to replicate but that's okay. Your art has a light, loose, happy feel to it and that's what I really enjoy about it; which is why I watch your videos.

I've really enjoyed watching both the tree and the house studies you've shared. Will have to give them a try myself. All of these artists are new to me except John Harrison. I love his style with clean lines.
Have you heard of Koosje Koene? Her work is like this. I love watching her. I love watching you create and the way you learn and do studies of other artists.
This is an excellent idea Helen! I might steal it for my own practice, I have been doing copies of landscape drawings because I find my lines not expressive and concise enough. You did a really lovely job 😊

Excellent studies! And doing a whole series at once takes away the temptation to simply copy your source material. I think you always learn more by emulating the style or whatever it was you were attracted to without trying to duplicate.

To be honest, I don't know many artists at all really. I've no background in art, and have only been dabbling in my own way for the past few years. My interest in art is more to do with a love of art materials and my physical interaction with them than anything else!
They all look so good. I love the look of multiple pics grouped together like this! I think my favourites are the top left on the left hand page, and the bottom left on the right hand page.
I have to agree, his style stands out here. The scene you have so nicely depicted is likely to be in Staithes or Robin Hood’s Bay if I’m not mistaken. I once saw John on “Watercolur Challenge” (or similar such competition).

I really enjoy when artists use ‘unrealistic’ colours - that pink gives so much life - it’s something I need to try more. The John Harrison one also reminded me of your beautiful granulating colour Cornish cards. Lovely- thanks for the inspiration. 😊

It will be fun to explore their work and style. I’ve been following Melanie Chadwick but wasn’t aware of the others. I really like her work. Although still a beginner to watercolor and gouache, I too tend to get bogged down in the details. I also don’t like how I’m doing my trees and have been looking at many others trees and trying to improve. I too really like the more simplistic, stylized or what I would call folk art style landscapes, trees and buildings along with the way people use mixed media. Another person you might want to check out if you haven’t already is Natasha Newton. I absolutely love her work. Another one I just recently found and really like is Safari of Ideas, I can’t remember the artist’s name off the top of my head. I think you did an excellent job on these. I really like the two lower left on the first page as well as the two top brick/stone buildings on the top of the right hand page, along with the shadowed street in the middle. I also really love when you do your splodge & scribble. They’re awesome.

Thanks! For the left hand page they were all from publications I've bought, and the right hand page were from people's Instagram (I've included all the links), and either pictures I'd already saved on Pinterest, or putting 'House Sketch' in Pinterest.
It is a recommended practice to practice from other artists, especially the masters. If you see a style you want to practice and find your own way, that is not copying and taking credit. Those other artists do the same in their own journeys.
I beg to differ. You are as good as these artists!
