The "time creatures" are "The Norns", a personification of the past, the present, and the future. In Norse/Germanic mythology they are responsible for shaping human destiny. They keep track of time and decide the course and length of life of every single being.

According to the "Völuspa", Norns (Nornir) are three immortal female figures in pre-Christian, old Germanic/Nordic mythology who sit on the banks of the Urd River at the root of the world ash Yagdrasil and spin the threads of fate for gods and humans. (The three sinister figures in the Rammstein video undoubtedly provide an analogy) The names of the three Norns are:
"Urd" (fate / that which has become) She is an old woman who constantly looks back over her shoulder at the time long past.
"Verdandi" (Present / The Being) She has the form of a young woman who is always looking ahead.
"Skuld" (Future/The Becoming) Unlike Urd and Verdandi, Skuld is an unpredictable force that has no love for gods or humans. She wears a veil and holds a book or scroll in each hand. Her gaze is always directed in the opposite direction of Urd's gaze.
The Nornir spin the thread of Fate and life for every human being, and when that thread is severed, the human's life ends. Remnants of this mythology can still be found today in the Germanic/Nordic language area. There is a commonly used saying for a person who is in danger of death. "His life hangs by a thin thread only".

Sorry, but according to the Plato and Goethe (Faust) references these deities are most probably the Moirai or the Parcae and not the Nornes, but that might be like splitting hairs..

Masterpiece, the video and the song. I've seen them live last month and the whole show was amazing of course , the pyrotechnics, the fireworks... but for me one of the biggest highlights was to hear Zeit live. Beautiful experience

Saw them also live last month. Zeit brought me to tears and Adieu was amazing too. This was something I will never forget and I hope they will play Angst on their next tour

Rammstein is, without a doubt, one of the best live bands, of our time. Their live performances are aaaaaawesuuuum!

Brilliant Song! Rammstein never fail to offer things that would never be accepted in normal society! That`s why i love them, and always will. Zeit - so many different ways we can look at that! Time - There will never be another band that can do this...
The video and song tells that we humans are all a little part of the timeline and that time is going on no matter what.
The black robed figures can be seen as "time guardians" or maybe the "Norns" out of north mythology. They guide you from the "otherworld" (where cildrenare born) into the real world where they decide your desteny and as soon as your time has come, they will guide you back into the "otherworld" where you become a part of time (symbolized by the girl that walk´s into the the "time stream" that looks like sand). Over all, the falling or rising sand (like in an hour glas) is the representation of time line / time stream.
The video mixes forward and backward played scenes a lot and shows in a loose order how people are born (big timestream with birth giving mothers), life (scene of farmers) and die (many other scenes, where you see that soldiers where children who play "war" and where babies before that).
The band members play pretty much every role in the video. In the "otherworld" they wear blindfolds (time sees no difference or other things) and help the mothers giving birth, give the babies to the time guardians who guide them into the world.
And for the record : Everything in this video that looks like sand, is in fact real sand, no CGI here. All sculptures are made from sand, also.
And at the very end of the video (at least i interpret that) where the time stream ends, the band will be still there due to the music they made.... or.... they will be a part of time and will always be there.
Zeit is such an amazing song and the music video makes it even better, but hearing this song live last month was phenomenal. Till's voice never disappoints. Please react to 'Angst' or some live videos

It saw whole cultures, kingdoms, countrys and worlds born, rise, and falling apart, by the echos from its own steps moving forward. Fascinating, and yet terrifying._
I think I am a real fan of Rammstein because I follow them since 1999 year after year. But this was the first time I was hearing and seeing this song. Thx for this upload.
The piano solo from the end of "Deutschland" is the melody of "Sonne", another great video of Rammstein. I've been a fan for a very long time, and have to say they are the most unique band in the world. "Zeit" (~Time) is about mortality and how tiny a life is, still we try to hold on to every moment and think we can stop time, which is obviously in vain.
Rammstein is one of the few bands worldwide who basically have unlimited money for their videos and shows.
The director of the video said he couldn't do something because it would have been too expensive. I don't remember what. I have to check.

„Zeit“ (time)
Three creatures of destiny are named: their names are Urd (fate), Verdandi (that which is to come) and Skuld (guilt; that which should be). Their names are considered to be Norse equivalents of common medieval notions of time in the form of personifications of the past (Urd), present (Verdandi) and future (Skuld).
The song deals with the theme of death and the transience of life. These motifs are expressed within the video through various images and metaphors. At the beginning, when the band members are drowning in the sea, Lindemann sings about the river of time, in which all people are trapped. This metaphor is visualized by the drowning in the video. In the war scene, where children first play war and later a battle actually takes place, the band sings about the inability to stop the future: "You can't summon the future, you don't tolerate a stay". In the same place where children used to play, they now die in war. The song expresses the wish that the beautiful moments as children should always last. The women who give birth to their children at the Sandstrom represent the cycle of time. In the same place where the dead daughter will later appear, children will also be born. The farmer and his daughter are separated in a moment that seemed perfect for them. The father tries to stop his daughter, but fails. Accordingly, he mourns the moment. The character in the video is clearly identifiable as Death by the black cloak. However, the video also equates it with the concept of time, as the passage of time means everyone has to die at some point. Referring to the band, some fans and journalists suspect that Zeit could be Rammstein's last album, which could be another meaning of the album and song name.
Just want to add that the lyric at the farmes scene referrs to Goethes Faust. See Faust last words.

In the end we all go back into the sands of time. Some of us leave to early but that's not for us to decide. Time has decided thing for us already.
Go to one of their concerts. I was at the concert of the LIFAD tour, it is not transferable and not forgotten!
My interpretation and thought was time goes on like a continuous cycle and those rare occasions when we are truly happy of course we want time to stop. The showing of the sand and hourglass ⌛ time keeps going and them showing the scenes reversing to me meant a desire to go back in time either to the moment of birth and start our lives over or to before we're even born saying no i don't even want to be born i want to go back before i was even conscious of my own existence and mortality. Them being blindfolded to me was no one knows whats going to happen in the future we don't know what kind of lives these babies are going to have.

I want to thank you for being one of the very few male reactor that didn't look shocked or horrified when they show the scenes of the women giving birth. I was already expecting to see a look of disgust or some comment on how they shouldn't show that. So thank you very much for being a mature adult

Considering that they might be a huge band they are very genre related and dont talk to everybody obviously. They spend a lot on the videos and their live shows for their fans. Especially since the tickets to the shows are very affordable at least here in Germany. Its about 100$ for that show. As a fan I think you get the full package.

Another thing that came to my the babies being put back in to the mother to be born again on earth and also coming back in a sense they died on earth and are now being born in the other world and their birth or rebirth on earth is them already starting to die because as soon as your born your dying..your dying to live or as Rammstein put it "Wir sterben weiter bis wir leben" "We keep dying until we live" because in a sense what we perceive as dying is us actually being born again into the other world that's why the girl in the end seems happy when she dies because she knows that her death here means her being born over there..if that makes any Sense?

'Deutschland' is rumored to have had a 6 million budget, so I would guess 'zeit' has about 3 to 10 million budget.
Maybe watch something from Sabaton Uprising or 40:1(Woodstock, Poland 2012) ♥️
