I saw this guy winning the world championship. There were three dudes including him at the final, and this guy blew the other two's butt out. Not only in terms of final products, the clothing, the sharp gesture, Mr.Chung surpassed them by far.
Yet another reason why Singapore is my favorite city in the world. Like everything Singaporean, shoe shining is completed with the best materials available in the most professional manner possible.
I always thought rubbing alcohol was for removing the finish and cold water was for getting that mirror shine? What purpose does the alcohol provide during the shining process? Shoes look great by the way.
The alcohol should only be used for the mirror shine just use it once the wax liars are dry after a single sitting only use it in the beginning to melt the wax a bit faster then water and wax does just ok
Lucky strike, He may be a master but I have seen way better one never waxes the vamp and he keeps doing it. I can point you to better shiners but I won’t disrespect him he was decent at best in my humble opinion
@@veegroove If Jason Dornstar is better, then why can I not find a single video of his where he produces an actual 'mirror' shine instead of just high gloss, when John Chung can do it in 20 mins at the world championship? Also then why would Kirby Allison make a video involving John Chung and his techniques and not himself enter the competition?
Hi, I'm trying to do this with Kiwi Polish instead of the Sapphir one used by John. I'm aware that I would not be able to replicate the shine because of the difference in quality between both brands but I'm still looking to get a mirrorshine from my Kiwi. Is the alcohol really necessary here or would regular ice water suffice?
yes, of course. But in the service, I guess you are expected to do the spit polish yourself. Maybe if you are a General, you can get your aide de camp to do it for you. 🙂
I do those circular motions and try going at the speed they do, but I end up leaving some darkened burn marks on my shoes.... I used an old cotton shirt. Could my shirt have been too rough of a material?
He is going fast, but the pressure is light, also he is probably using more surface area on the pads of his fingers than you are. Its about building layer upon layer.
Because he doesnot want the shoe to look too dark if he uses the colored wax only. He mentioned this for his interview after the 2018 shoe shining competiton
By using your fingers, don't you expose yourself to high levels of hydrocarbons in your blood stream? Mechanics often have to use protective gloves to avoid a build up. I'm just a car guy, so I'm curious.
There are no petroleum products in the Saphir cremes and waxes he uses! He can clean his hands with soap and water. If he was polishing black shoes, he might need a nail brush, but no solvents!
In circular motion. - rubs back and forth, not in circular motion. In addition it seems no cleaning in the beginning on front of the shoe. All this is an indicator of doing too fast. Sorry.
The wax on the vamp area will crack and will form an ugly white substance. Since that area bends, it is not required to put wax on the vamp of the shoes.
I think I would take the world champion of shoe shinning technique over some random RUclips “expert”. Also shinning boots a lot in the military you know that it only cracks if you put too much wax.

Best shoe shiner in the world right there folks 😯
I love how proper he is and the music is calming.
The fast-forward in regular play speed just hooked me! Very good video!
I like that navy suit you're wearing. Seems like a good suit for war.
Sure a lot of people won't have seen that video, but a great comment to see in a shine video
it is established properly.
But is his breath sandwichy?
I’m just absolutely speechless......it certainly is an improvement on spit and polish.....respect.......🙏🏻
Much respect to you Mr. Chung. Love from Pakistan
Sir, could you provide the aprox cost of a shine at this level.. in US dollars.. please... also be careful with your sleeve
Thank you! From Los Angels, California
Yet another reason why Singapore is my favorite city in the world. Like everything Singaporean, shoe shining is completed with the best materials available in the most professional manner possible.
People all over the globe use Saphir shoe products on their favorite shoe collection, not just Singapore.
Saphir products are French...
@@iansoutryer3189 Ya think? Please change your handle to Captain Obvious.
Thank you for the video. One question - why did you use both brown and neutral wax at same time?
that provides a glass shine
I always thought rubbing alcohol was for removing the finish and cold water was for getting that mirror shine? What purpose does the alcohol provide during the shining process? Shoes look great by the way.
I believe it helps melt the waxes into the leather...
@@brandonbentley8532 Yeah, the alcohol heats the wax.

John, why doesn't the alcohol dry out the leather, no matter how little you use? fred berri
Sometimes I wish my work boots got this kind of spa treatment. But the next steel mill I go to would take a toll within minutes lol.
How do you keep your fingers from staining?
Top drawer all the way. A well-spoken young man with wonderful skills. Kudos from Canada
He is the Bruce Lee of shoe shining
Background music kills the video for me but excellent shine!
Master shoe-polisher, amatuer tie tyer.
You are a master my friend the best I ever seen on RUclips
Lucky strike, He may be a master but I have seen way better one never waxes the vamp and he keeps doing it. I can point you to better shiners but I won’t disrespect him he was decent at best in my humble opinion
Point me to "better" ones. I would like to learn of this.
Jason dornstar, hanger project with Kirby Allison

The alcohol heats the polish. You can get the same shine using kiwi, but it is going to take a lot longer.
Thank you
Can this way be done on military boots?

Yes that's how we proper clean shoes.
That Minecraft music tells me it’s evening there. He’d better hurry up and get into his castle!
That shine... he is the guy from the asmr videos!
I do those circular motions and try going at the speed they do, but I end up leaving some darkened burn marks on my shoes.... I used an old cotton shirt. Could my shirt have been too rough of a material?
only use wet cotton balls.
He is going fast, but the pressure is light, also he is probably using more surface area on the pads of his fingers than you are. Its about building layer upon layer.
It looks like you alternate the mirror gloss with the colored wax, is there a reason for this?
Because he doesnot want the shoe to look too dark if he uses the colored wax only. He mentioned this for his interview after the 2018 shoe shining competiton
May I ask...what are those items called holding the water and alcohol?
High-Shine Glass Water Dispenser
Do you wash and reuse chamois? Or are they disposable?
In John Chungs championship video one of his competitors used a old and very dirty chamois.
"At Mason & Smith we apply the creams by hand". Fuckin fingers would be down to the bone.
what kind of alcohol and at what concentration should we use for shoe polishing?
I believe it is rubbing alcohol, which actually contains mainly water.
Thanks Brandon
@@ritchiefly wasn't trying to step on John Chungs toes..he's a master. But I like to help...
brandon bentley ... No. Rubbing alcohol contains anywhere from 50% to 90+ % alcohol by volume, so it’s quite far from being “mainly water.”
Niiiiice tie
Great shine on a hideous pair of derbies!
Anon Ymous beat me by 4 months
What the dirty bottom of shoe? The bottom of shoe can use a cleaning also.
so just normal rubbing alcohol ?
yup.
John are speed the camara or you are so faster to clean the shoe.

This guy or Mike Wilson ???
These shoes are from Prague.
Budapest
I’m assuming the video was sped up at times 😲😲
Nah, just Asian
It’s a brand new pair!!
@@goborpoddo the Vass was actually 10 years old.
Do these shoe shiners have something against buffing wheels? they could be doing this level of shine in like 3 minutes.

Why don't you use saddle soap?

Cuanto HUMO...
Post the original with no background music or fast forwarding
What are you talking about? This is his normal speed 😉
I wonder why he didn't choose a nicer shoe for this video ...
Great at shining shoes not so much at tying ties
I’d love to see him shine a couple of ox blood Doc Martens..he’s good
Nice except he should have used edge dressing. The black part and sole look worn and dirty.
where is he from?
Singapore, Maison and Smith
This was 15 years before he was beaten up by Jean Claude Van Damme in a Kumite tournament.
Why is this dude flicking me off for like 20 mins?
the sped up playback is ruining it :/
Another video how shoe was made ruclips.net/video/sIBkO5crgGs/видео.html
There were Asian shoes too. Uhhhhh...... chilllll
Please don't speed up the video.

Agreed,I cream and condition the whole shoe but only shine the heels and toe caps
You realise that he is the world champion in shoe shining? One soft wax on the vamp area will not crack, unless you're using to much
I think I would take the world champion of shoe shinning technique over some random RUclips “expert”. Also shinning boots a lot in the military you know that it only cracks if you put too much wax.
You can put 1 layer of wax polish on it with no problem, it's when you use multiple layers or apply harder waxes that it becomes an issue
he can do a better job with his tie
Japanese are masters in shoe shining no one can get close to them
I'm pretty sure the guys Chinese....
Singaporean
He's Mexican
So first lee..
would have been better as a no talking asmr content ...
Not very impressive. 😊Still there is black spot on the top of Shoe.
He should have removed the ditr.
Seems like a lot of effort for not much gain. The shoe color made it hard to get a decent shine imo.
You work your shoeshine buiness in a fancy suit? Why?
The class.
Respect for one's own profession, self, and the mindset of upholding everything one does, including their profession, to a high standard.
The products used cost more than the shoes.
Nice
Not even close!!
Vass Budapest model , about $450 dollars from the RTW line, I don’t like the budapester style, they look heavy and clumsy to my eye.
That's the technique for shiny shoes, wear a suit!
should've clean the shoe with saddle soap first, it still look dirty after the polish
I would put Maru in Mexico up against him.
I have a strong dislike for men that wear shiny shoes, but I love to watch the process.
I hate watching these guys do this by hand. The repeated exposure to all these toxic chemicals over the years can not be good for you.
