I still marvel at how the pilots so precisely find their way around the airport during both departure/ takeoff and arrival/landing. Especially after landing at night, they still know just where to taxi, exactly which taxiways to turn & proceed onto, and how far, to get over to the terminal, and which terminal and gate to go right up to. How do they do that so expertly? I guess it is a matter of both familiarity/practice and electronically digitized map and routing assistance in some manner. I imagine they used paper maps in the old days? Me, once I landed, it would be, like," OK, I see a lighted area over that way, let's just sort of head over there and see if we find it OK! And which terminal and gate was that again? "
