    On the 10th June 1961 my dad drove me from Leeds to hear Billy Graham at Maine Road. On arriving home I went up to my room, got down on my knees and Jesus to be my saviour. This year will be the 60th year since I gave my life to Jesus. I'm not perfect and have let him down in the past but he's never failed me.

    What a recording! I was 16 years old in 1954 and sitting at the back of the gallery in the Centenary Methodist Church in Boston listening to the sound of the Billy Graham Rally being relayed through a loudspeaker! A long way from our modern technology. I will always remember making my way from the back of that gallery to the front of the church to find a new life which led me into the Methodist ministry some 56 years ago. Praise the Lord!

    Precious memories of hearing these wonderful choirs live when Dr Graham and Co were here in Australia in 1959 (I was 10 years old). Fabulous diction from the Australian choirs, too, underpinned by Tedd Smith's manic piano!!! (Listen to it in 'Tis Marvellous and Wonderful!!) I met Dr Graham and the beloved George Beverly Shea as we boarded a plane in Adelaide on the way back to Sydney; I'd never had to look up that far, or reach that high in my life to shake anyone's hand.Dr Graham was truly the last great evangelist; the claims of the modern-day pretenders to the title are suspect in the extreme. And, @Joe Smith, you are so right; this sort of music sustained faith and doctrine for 200-300 years, and what passes for church music these days would make Wesley, Isaac Watts, Philip Bliss, Ira D Sankey, et al, weep for what we have become..

      That's amazing!
      I'd never associated All Souls members and John Stott with the Billy Graham rallies - just never crossed my mind, but it's obvious now - particularly with the All Souls evangelical angle, emphasised by John himself.
      I'm off tomorrow to Prom Praise 2019 to (try to!) sing bass in the massed choir.

    I was privileged to be a member of the choir (tenor) when Dr. Graham came to Edinburgh in 1991 and went thru' to Glasgow once to sing in the choir too when he and his team went thru' there. Cliff Barrows led us for an initial choir practise at the big stadium in the west end of Edinburgh. I also remember Tedd Smith, the pianist, practising 'And Can it Be' I think it was - a concert arrangement of his probably.
    Thanks for putting this on RUclips. Still very relevant.

    THIS is worship music. THIS is Church music. Seldom heard in this day and age when 6-7 entertainers stand on a stage, each with their own microphone, with a shoe- gazing acoustic guitarist and amped up drummer, and sing "you are mighty, you are holy, you are worthy, rinse and repeat", over and over again in classic Dr. Seuss style. We've lobotomized the music portion of our church service, (oops, sorry..."praise experience"), packed away the Hymnals and settled for singing projected medleys off the wall. It's too bad.

    • @ACELog
      @ACELog  6 лет назад +3

      This and many other videos on my channel are some of the vinyl albums that my parents had. I've transcribed dozens of them to mp3 CD for my 92 year old mother to listen to on her DVD player.
      I agree that meaningless repetition by bands is a pity these days.
      However, it's also good that such composers as Townend and Getty have addressed that: in their own words, they've "tried to put content back into [new] songs (hymns)".
      "In Christ alone" is a good example. We often sing that as a congregation to just our main piano - it's written in that hymn-like style.

    • @lorrainesherman7566
      @lorrainesherman7566 6 лет назад +1

      Yes, this is worship music and so is what we sing in churches now. As long as we are worshiping the God of our salvation, the words may change and the music may change but God looks at the heart.

    when you listen to the various crusade choirs sing the one thing that stands out from this one from England is the diction. The Brits know how to add the T at the end of words! In North America we are lazy singers in many ways :( Love hearing the choir - the harmonies, the arrangements - BEAUTIFUL
