The overtly gay and heroic couple Cait and Vi on "Arcane" are another historic high for sapphic representation right now. "Arcane" centers so many multi-racial and non-conforming women characters too. I am shipping CaitVi but am delirious over the entire show. It's awesome.
Arcane told it right. it even had me gushing as a straight girl on their romance and brought back honest to god good old-fashioned entertainment again. I literally felt Dirty Dancing vibes during the whole jail cell scene in episode 8, and it gave me a true love story between Vi and Caitlyn that wasn't just there for lesbian shipping or representation. Writers took the time and gave quality in that scene that matched the quality back in 1987 of one of the iconic love scenes from Dirty Dancing. Vi even does Patrick Swayzee's move during that scene, too, which gave me chills and melting. Hollywood needs to take lessons from Riot Games and Foritche and go back to giving us that entertainment again and stop catering to the modern audience and playing identity politics. I get closeted more from Glinda than Elphaba. I think Elphaba wouldn’t be under any dissolution that she’s pansexual but just wouldn’t have the verbiage for it or wouldn’t feel the need to. But as far as Glinda, I don’t think she realizes how much she’s in love with Elphaba until it’s too late. There’s no doubt in my mind that in Glinda’s eyes, Elphaba is the most beautiful person she’s ever seen. And Fiyero was always an expectation. He is the best, and she always gets the best. “You’re perfect, so we’re perfect together.” I think Fiyero loves both women in his own way, but obviously the feelings are stronger for Elphaba and there’s a likely unintentionally resentment that builds in the time between Act 1 and 2 where he’s had to be without her, not knowing where she is. In another world, we’d have a “here’s my girlfriend and her boyfriend” situation with the three of them 😂
Yeah that feels pretty accurate, I feel like Elphaba, already being an outcast, is more free to express her differences and Cynthia even said that in an interview that she sees Elphaba as sexually fluid and it came through for me. Meanwhile Glinda is in a much narrower box and has more to lose in coming out and therefore doesn't want to face it. Fiyero is a safe and expected choice as you said.

Wait but isn't making them have gay moments in book just to make them both straight and go for Fiyero a literal definition of queerbaiting? Bonsoir merci beaucoup pour votre réponse qui me touche énormément vous aite adorable je vous enbrasse très fort Patricia de la France merci pour le petit cœur 😉😊💋😊😘🥰❤❤🔥💋💋
In the original book, Elphaba's gender was unclear at birth, so I think seeing her as trans or gender non-conforming is a valid reading and if anyone sees it that way I think it's great. I know many also see autistic traits in the leads with Elphaba unable to mask and Glinda masking a lot and I can defiantly see how some people would read it that way too. I love that it speaks to so many people in different ways.
@ I say it because something that I’ve heard a few times around the infamous “trans debate” is that gay people(lesbians, bi, gay, ace, etc) can hide their sexuality if they feel unsafe or unwelcome. Trans people, especially trans women once we are out, we can’t hide. Some pass, but that’s it. In general our nature is exposed. Also, I know this is something that happens to cis queer people too but, when Glinda let go of Elphaba at the end because she’s a girl and that’s not supposed to be, I personally feel that the fact that elphaba is physically different in a very obvious way, scares Glinda because then, she would be publicly embracing someone who exist against the establishment in more than one way, and that is scary. That’s something a lot of partners of trans people go through, and a big number of them break up for different reasons, but this one is an important and common one. I’m not trying to pick on small things to justify what I’m saying but I heard what you say and it just resonates with me
There's no "gay subtext". 🤣 You're imagining things that are not there. They're both chasing after the same man in the first part. Glinda gets him first. But as you'll find out in the second part, the man chooses Elphaba over Glinda. Glinda's jealousy over the fact that Elphaba stole her man is the driving force of the plot in part 2. Anybody who thinks there's this imaginary gay love between the two witches is deluding themselves, plain and simple.
I am well aware of what happens. As I point out, it's subtext as in not confirmed in text, there is no delusion, just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not a valid interpretation.
@ Tell me exactly how it makes sense that Elphaba runs off with Glinda’s man when she’s supposedly in love with Glinda? Why not just hook up with Glinda and dump the man? The story is a classic falling out between two women friends over a man. That’s what drives the conflict. It’s why Glinda ultimately turns on Elphaba.

@@thedudeabides2531 Why do you feel the need to police how I relate to and find meaning in a fictional story? I have no issue with how you see it, just that you seem to think your way of seeing it is right and therefore I am wrong. If you want it to make sense - (re)watch my video, I go over how the author was intentional about this but even if it wasn't intended, it's what I and a lot of others see and that is valid. There is no absolute truth here. It's clear Ariana Grande gets it ruclips.net/video/-RzcoRBfTGw/видео.html
The movie was EXTREMELY queer coded!
@@deandraowens7936 It's like the Rorschach inkblot test. It's obviously just a single misshapen spot but you see it as two spots having sex. Whatever floats your boat. But here on Earth, they're straight.
Geezuz Christ what has this world become this crap in movies TV and my beloved Computer games leave me alone Bugger off !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No
Haven't seen it yet, but this was a great analysis and gave me more to look forward to. Ariana and Cynthia CLEARLY understood just how much they needed to play up the subtext, and that makes me happy. Their chemistry is unreal, and their bond undeniable. 🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚
I have been delighted at how much they've acknowledged the gay in interviews and Ariana in particular has been this ship's captain and I love it.
2007 me is highly pleased with all this gelphie exposure 🧡🤍🩷
