- Ever wondered how some countries are more efficient and productive with everything they do? In this video we'll compare roads in USA, Russia, China and Europe.
I love driving so when I'm traveling I cant help but compare road quality in different countries. Its one of the most important parts of the infrastructure of a country. Enjoy the video and tell me what you think. - Развлечения
There are two speed limits in China.
120kmh when the cameras are on, and infinity when no one is watching
The problem is, there are countless cams.

I am British and recently drove across France to Switzerland and Austria. I was so shocked at the sheer amount of toll roads across France. Just when you get through one, another oen starts. They're almost impossible to avoid and very expensive. We have very few toll roads in the UK and I am grateful for that.
You can drive from calies to basel with out any tolls via Belgium and Luxembourg then France again
@@CookieMonster-hz5ry how? Nancy - Lyon is tolled and I dont know of another continuous highway East of this one, unless you cross over to Germany way before Basel.

Thank you for not ignoring the fact, that 95% of humankind use Metric system.
Aluminum Chicken Metric is global. Only retards use Miles and gallons.
SJW Keep your nose on your own face. Nobody is making you change, so you don't need to worry about us using Imperial. Americans know what it means and since it's done here, that's all that matters. It would be an enormous cost to change everything over to Metric now, and since we understand it, there's no need to. If I came to Europe, I would expect to learn how to use your measurement system, and I would without complaining about it. Basic point is: it's no skin off your nose, so bug off.
CATwoman 1 just adopt metric system already.
Tantiwa Hopak I said in my above post (if you'd bothered to read it) that it would way too expensive to change everything over to Metric. As I said, we understand it, so there's no need to change and it's no skin off your nose what we choose to use.
CATwoman 1 well if you do decide to move to Europe, spend a year or two here in the UK first, we use both systems but never for the same thing lol, could settle you in through the transition
Why does your accent change every 8 seconds

This video is good but it doesn't consider enough the difficulty of constructing roads on dry soil vs wetland vs frozen soil and so on. For instance, I recently traveled across south of USA, Texas, new Mexico, arizona, Nevada and California. Magnificent, super high quality roads all along. But it was mostly desert. Road construction on that kind of soil is very easy, you just need to bull away a foot or two of top sand, replace it with compacted gravel, 10-12 inches of pavement and that's it. At the opposite, if you need to build your road on a frozen swomp like most of canada, then you have to excavate down to 10 feet of soil in an excavation constantly filling up with water, then you need to build this 10 feet thick foundation with blasted rock all along. Forget about concrete, the frost/defrost cycle and the constantly moving soil will crack it in less than a year (we tried). The engineering behind those two roads are soooooo different. You can't just say roads are better in Europe and bad in Russia and all. Take the best French road (which are very good) and move it on a Siberian wetland and its gonna disappear in the mud in no time. I just wanted to add a bit of perspective from an engineering point of view.
Plus this person has never been to Texas. Texas has roads on par with India.
Best Roads are in California and the West(except Seattle). pretty sure Detroit's roads aren't all that .
Thanks man! Some people just do not use brains, like the author of the video.
building road on top of permafrost that thaw at summer? this uploader must be drunk
DrDestroy That doesn’t change the fact that the roads are better. You can’t just compare them in equal situations because they’re not equal situations. If we were comparing the quality of life for 2 people, someone who is well off and someone living below the poverty line, you wouldn’t say that they’re the same. Sure, they could be similar people with similar ideas, but their situations are very different. Therefore it’s fair to say the well off person has a better life.
@@awildfilingcabinet6239 it does.

Moscow actually moved to the North Korean border 7 months ago.... they just loaded the entire city onto a truck, and drove it there
He legit called The Moscow region the eastern part and the actualy eastern part the far east.
It's still wrong.
I was looking for this comment :)
Technically Moscow is "The east" of the world, but not of Russia. I agree with you he should have said Western Russia rather than the east.
love the background music choice for the U.S. part lol hell yeah brother!
I think that Russia might have the same problem as here in Norway. When the ground gets moist and it freezes, roads tent to get damaged. The ground lifts in certan places and makes cracks along the asfalt roads. It can be overcome by doing a lot of work with the foundation of the roads but that's quite costly.
In addition, 65% of the territory of Russia is permafrost.
Same issue over here in Canada. Roads get damaged quickly. Mostly due to the harsh winter.
No, I have been in Norway many times, and also in Sweden and Finland, thy have similar climate and population density as Norway, they don't have all the oil in the world as you do, which is the main ingredient to make asphalt, and they have much better roads than Norway.
What damages the roads is the change of weather, permafrost gets thawed when it gets warm ( it buckles)
Then you need to bring the Chinese there, they make it possible. 🙂
I’m from the Caribbean, and we have some bad roads. I lived in Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, and USA, they all have good roads. Although where I lived in Germany and Belgium there were some sketchy roads.
4:30 You realize that Germany first makes a concrete foundation, and pours asphalt on top of that.
onee isnt it should be done that way? Here in the Philippines we do that way.

Love the Autobahn in germany! Today I drove 1000km from Austria to the Netherlands of which I drove most of them on the autobahn at at least 160km/h for 4-5 hours with some minor roadworks. Unrestricted highways is one of the best inventions of the germans!
When you were mentioning European roundabouts, the video you showed was a traffic circle. These are commonly confused but are quite different - roundabouts are smaller, have less lanes, and are much less complicated to navigate (they’re also starting to pop up in North America).
I'm an American born and raised in Southern California we have one of the most horrible infrastructure when it comes to roads and freeways traffic jams roads being so outdated you find pot holes trash all over the streets it's just ridiculous.. the footage you showed is somewhere in Northern California where isn't that much traffic and the roads are a little nicer.. and by the way I went to Russia for the World Cup and I didn't know Moscow was that freaking big & we went 2 st. Petersburg another huge phenomenal City the streets freaking huge like super wide and we went to creamy the bridge that they just open up that connects it with the mainland it's absolutely astonishing they have pretty good roadways Express highways stuff in the nature I won't compare it to the US. But it's definitely up there" that's just my opinion with due respect!!!
California has some of the poorest quality freeways in the U.S., granted they have a lot of them.
akshay Viswambharan you can't judge a country big as the us. Each state has it's unique features.
akshay Viswambharan US infrastructure is good for the countries size, but it could be a lot better. The problem with us infrastructure is that they don’t really invest enough into it. It is good, and ofc other countries will have better infrastructure because they are much smaller than the us, but even then US infrastructure is pretty decent, but does need an upgrade,
Salman Drame exactly, each state has their own quality, that’s why you treat us states as small countries all in one Union.
abraham rubio jr well yeah, but that’s just in California which is the most populated state and has more roads than most states. Some Cali infrastructure is good, some is bad. Cali isn’t an indicator for all of America, of course we need to improve infrastructure, but it isn’t really that bad. It desperately needs an upgrade and more investment, but it is still pretty good in international standards.

1:00 can't cross a double line... It's illegal
I don't know about that country but in the UK you can overtake on a double line if the vehicle is travelling below 10mph or half the posted speed limit.
yes but you can't wait for a tractor going with 24 km/h either zzZzZZZz
Scratch that "half the posted speed limit" Ed. 10mph or less it is. You can't cross a double line overtaking a vehicle travelling at 30 mph when the speed limit is 60.
FWIW, in other countries, the rules may be stricter. Case in point, in Germany, you may cross a solid line (single or double) only to pass stationary objects (parked cars etc). Theoretically you could not even overtake a pedestrian if the space on your side of the road is insufficient. In practice, this rule is of course unlikely to be observed to the letter.
Daniël van Deutekom there shouldn't be a double line on a quiet road like that
it doesn't make any sense to have a double line on a two-way lane
The Mass Pike is full of friggin' pot-holes, and don't even get me started on Detroit roadways! And a Japanese pothole - an oxymoron for sure.

Cool video, good information.
I like your channel ..You provide a lot of information
Density increased in the WESTERN part of Russian, not the Eastern as said. Interesting video, thanks. One of the most important points you make is that freeways in the US penetrate cities instead of linking them. I can't overstate the importance of this. It leads to massive gridlock in the US around and through all major cities as local drivers clog the interstate with commutes. It is a joy to drive vein the EU as you can quickly get between cities without gridlock generally. I live in the US, and believe the EU system is much superior.

Just finished a road trip from Minneapolis to Niagara Falls, CA via Cañada and Niagara Falls, NY. Returned via Canada through Dearborn, MI (Ford Rouge plant tour) and took the car ferry over Lake Michigan through Wisconsin. Freeways in both countries were great, except for I-96 freeway west of Lansing. The car ferry was much smoother than bumpy I-96.

Yep, the slow Americans definitely need this explanation. Sometimes I doubt they even know the difference between a continent and a country. You could be telling them that Europe/Africa is a continent... and they may claim to know what a continent is, but in their mind they still have that "A continent is a country" understanding that is hard-baked into their brains.
Great quality!
In Europe, speed limit in express ways can be as low as 120 km/h, as it is the case in Portugal.
That I know of, in Portugal there was only one road (or, better said, a small part of a road) built in concrete rather than asphalt: that was A4, but just between the proximities of Amarante and Penafiel (roughly 20 km). But from the beginning people complained it was not as smooth as the other roads (and the rest of the A4), it was a bit "ruffled". After some years, the concrete was covered with asphalt.

In Germany there are motorways with no speed limit. Advice is 120-130 km/ph
They reduced the speed limit to 100km/h. At night some freeway allows 120km/h.

Afraid your last statement in the video, is not necessarily true. There are some countries that heavily tax cars when purchased new, this means there might be alot of older cars in a country that really is very wealthy.
nice comparison
Awesome
I have been to Europe and China and I now live in the US. I can easily say that the best roads to drive on are in the US (I have only seen the east coast so I am talking about that part)
In China, they have very good roads as well, but the toll is very expensive. So that quality comes with a high price.
The bad part of the US highways is the surface quality is not very good, but I think that is because of the snowfall at the state I live in. And as the video also explains, the US system is not very snow-friendly. But still, overally the US is the clear winner here.
Concrete roads with asphalt on top is the best roads in the world.
It's what Americans and Europeans use.

@Рамис Карама is public trans better in Russia. US public trans is horrible.
Рамис Карама Your ticket prices also are really low because your public transport equipment sucks.
Dutch PT is way better, most people that go with it can easily afford a car, but the PT system is just so good that they prefer using that over driving themselves.
By the way, how old are most of your trams busses and trains? Because I’ve seen some that look at least 3 decades old in Russia, while we have busses running on hydrogen, and almost all of the ones in larger cities are at least electric. We also don’f have a single diesel passenger-train running anymore.

I was seriously amazed that my country was in the top 5 for road quality.
I myself am from Russia, you would see the quality of the roads! It's just some kind of horror, a huge country, but there are no roads.
For small population and large territory you may just use planes instead of building roads at the middle of nowhere
There was a major mistake in this video, Russia's expressways are 6,768km not 929
People complaining about some of the qualities of American highways probably just don't understand how MASSIVE some road networks in the USA are. Easy example, look at Texas, its larger than most countries in Europe, and that's just ONE state out of 50. Want to drive cross-country? Be ready for entire day drives on the freeway, and it will still take you probably half a week.
Me personally, would love a massive build of public transportation in the states, but with the size and distance between places it will take a ton of time, and even more money.

@Francesc Garcia US is a bigger country but with less inhabitants: The EU has 4,479,968 square kilometers according to the CIA World Factbook. The USA has 9,833,517 square kilometers. But Europe has 500 million citizens who has to be transported in comparison with 300 million in the U.S. So you probably need more roads in Europe.
@Francesc Garcia That's true yes, but it's the most accurate source I could find. And the continent Europe is also heavily debated, some people even say Russia is part of that continent haha.

I think ure somewhat right because we dont have the best roads here at canada either at least not at Quebec but it may also be due to governmental corruption or budget deficit or both as both the Russian government and the Quebec government are corrupt and have a considerable budget deficit
Ricky Boii Yes but corruption is everywhere, even in England, we have really really bad roads here in London and they’re rarely fixed. I don’t know any countries that isn’t correct corrupt aha
Dylan Hussain i think u may be right and i think all western countries roads are in bad shape right now because most of those infrastructures were build at least 50 years ago and people often praise China for having good and large roads but what they dont realize is they are simply going through what western country went through 50 years ago and we dont yet know if they can maintain their infrastructures. But still countries like Japan and maybe some other asians countries like Korea Hong Kong and Singapore are known for their good infrastructures and they seem to be quite good at both maintaining their old infrastructures and building new ones.
Norway, Sweden, Finland, Canada and most northern states in the US all have immaculate roads.

Americans can mess up even roundabouts: they put traffic lights in them! I wonder if their elevators have seat belts...
@FeriTales America taught europe everything about industrialization so keep your mouth shut. How you think the world knows about Highways and Skyscrapers !
How does that even make sense....😂 the whole purpose of a roundabout is that traffic keeps moving
@@nochatter7134 Highways are not an American thing, they were invented by the Romans and perfected by the Germans. If Americans are so good at building infrastructure then tell me why they put traffic lights in roundabouts.
@FeriTales You are talking about “roads” which were invented by Romans. Americans invented the traffic light so humble yourself. The term highway, skyscrapers & is a concept of The New World. Highways in North America stretch from state to state & country to country. You can easily drive from USA to Canada just using highways. The way highways are constructed, named & feed into urban, suburban to rural cities is a concept emulated by Asian countries today. We don’t use roundabouts cuz they are useless to us. That’s like a North American person asking a european why don’t they have skyscrapers? are you afraid of heights? Don’t you know how to build buildings? The simple answer would be most europeans perhaps don’t like skyscrapers right?
@@nochatter7134 I have to admit, you're right after all. America taught Europe everything about industrialization, that's how the world knows about Highways and Skyscrapers today.
3:50 So you're completely ignoring the fact that nowhere in the UK you're allowed to go more than 70 mph? The UK is vastly different from the rest of the EU, y'know! Harsh climate in Australia? You should visit Canada or northern Europe to see what harsh climate is.
