Hi Scott, Thanks for introducing me to this PE foam mod. I have finally got my Tofu60 aluminium case to sound awesome. Case foam is installed in the battery compartment and below the PCB with the magic PE foam between the PCB and plate. Plate is Polycarbonate, switches are Boba U4T (stock) and keycaps are GMK WoB with Durock V2 stabs. I have also drilled out the two centre posts and just used the outer 4 screws. I did have PCB foam but to be honest the board did not sound great so I just removed it and just have the PE foam mod. It now sounds fantastic and I will also do the same when my KBD67 Lite arrives.
PE foam is trending hard rn, it makes keebs sound poppy and creamy. Although I don't think the alu case is quite worth the price, would much rather get something like a Neo Element G67. Not a fan of the space on the upgrade, sounds a bit hollow.
@@Keybored yeah haha hollow has been the issue with most non-plastic kbdfans boards, esp the low-mid price tier. But on the bright side more colors are coming for the plastic 67 lite which does its job well enough.
i just want to take a moment to thank you for introducing me to the PE foam mod, never heard of it until i watched your gmmk pro mod video. Im baffled by how well it works
PSA about that switch opener; don't use it for long-pole switches! It will poke the stem through the bottom of a U4T, for example. I couldn't resist buying the case myself - and I do like it. It is a lot less forgiving of unlubed or poorly lubed stabs, though! Also TIL V2 Gateron Caps are a thing
i also read that reddit post where the guy poked a hole through the bottom housing then i watched the Andy Nguyen video where he pretty much exerted all his strength and it didn't poke a hole

It's definitely a change from the stock KBD67 LITE. I don't know if it's truly an upgrade, since you do pay a lot for the aluminum, and it changes the type of sound it makes, but doesn't really "upgrade" it per se.
I've actually been wondering if the kbd67 mkII soldered pcb would work with the kbd67 lite products. I asked kbdfans before they said it isn't compatible but I don't see why it wouldn't work apart from maybe the USB c either being too long or short

I think they're different. The kbd67 is considered a "upgrade" vs the tofu, but the tofu65 with the o ring is also so good... I think the tofu with o ring actually has a softer typing feel than this, but this has a lower case front so it's more comfortable to type without a wrist rest
The V3 has very very little flex... I would say that theoretically, the V3 is supposed to be a softer keyboard. But in practice, I would say the O-Ring TOFU may actually be a softer typing experience.
I feel like a $160 case upgrade to a $109 board just seems conceptually backward. I'd rather they just make a silicone dampener for the KBD67 Lite, or maybe I might do a silicone pour myself. Alternatively I might just leave mine as is, since I've dampened all my other boards so the KBD67 Lite can stay as my test thocky/loud board.
They do have a silicone case dampener for the kbd67 lite. It's pretty new but it's on kbdfans kbdfans.com/collections/kbd67-lite/products/r2-kbd67-lite-bottom-case-silicone
@@rks5457 Oh Really? I totally missed that that existed. Now I've got to think up some other things I need to put together a KBDfans order since shipping isn't typically cheap. To get it to actual parity with those, since they both come with Silicon wedges, the KBD67 Lite technically costs $127 which puts it closer to the Portico cost and puts more distance between it and the NK65. Interesting.
Then you'd really dislike it stock haha. But in real life is not too bad with the pe. I was looking for ways to silence it a bit because it was loud for me lol
I just assembled my KBD67 Lite and I did not like the plastic case as I am coming from an alloy Tofu. Oh that’s my bad... got it mixed up with the KBD67 MKII. However, type in KBD67 into KBDfans website and you’ll see that both the Lite plate and PCB are open for preorders. So if you’re willing to wait those should be available relatively soon so you won’t have to waste a Lite case.

for $300 or so you could join GBs for much better looking boards so if you think alu case is something you want, dont buy 67Lite imo. $160 for a meh looking case is silly. It's the cost of a GMMK Pro. I bought Space65 two years ago for like $350 for example. I dont think KDB67lite for $109+$160 is a good deal, specially if you care aesthetic. It's a just a plain rectangle without any unique design. hell, you are better off buying D65 from the start. I dont think spending money into this board worth it. You either like it for what it is or just save up for a higher end board. Seems like a trap to me.
@@penguinkraftz3329 no such thing exists lol. Some people consider the Vega an end game and that was in the 300s GB. Others will do it by cost... But if it makes you happy and you don't need anything else to make you happy, that's end game
It's fine this way when he's actually editing multiple shots and needs to sync, basically what they do with a clapperboard in the film/tv. But they also edit that part out lol. Also gives a comparable sound to edit with since in person sound is so different than what the mic picks up. I do find it useless when people are just uploading a single unedited clip and trying to do that for seemingly no reason other than everyone else does it and then using sounds that are not consistent like clapping hands or snapping fingers which becomes useless when you don't edit the sound, need to sync or even making a sound that is replicable by the viewer.

Again! Awesome video! How was the v3 case? How stiff is the d65 with fr4 plate compared to the kbd67 v3 upgrade? is the kbd67 v3 upgrade better than D65? thanks
Hi Theddy! My d65 FR4 plate with the leaf spring cuts are in the mail and coming to me right now :) After using the V3 for a while, I think overall, I prefer the ABS case of the lite. The V3 case is nice, but it makes the KBD67 sound like any other aluminum case board... However... I have a surprise upcoming with the KBD67 lite actually... stay tuned!
@@Keybored Awesome! Thank you
I would get it if they make a e-yellow like tofu60. Gonna pass on black white grey..
I think they also have a green?
@@Keybored Nope just black grey and white. Might as well save money for the mojo68. Gasket mount board for $150 doesn't sound too bad
@@chiuuuuuuuuuu oh my bad, I thought this comment was on the freebird! Yup on the kbd67 v3, only the 3 colors you mentioned
@@Keybored imma watch that review later!
Is there any other third party metal case options available right now that I could use with kbd67 lite PCB?
I don't believe so. This thing is so specific, especially with the plate tabs that it would have to be specific to the build :(
Awesome video, do you where can I get non-conductive pe foam? I don't wanna accidentally buy a conductive/anti-static pe foam.
HI Vesten! That has been a challenge for me also! Can't find ESD foam thin enough under .5mm... if anyone does, it'll be great to share!
any way to use the v3 without having to get the entire lite set?
His use of “upgrade” is a bit misleading. KBD67 V3 is it’s own keyboard and not an upgrade kit for the KBD67 Lite.
@@gray4935 oh so its possible to just make a kit using the v3?
@@gray4935 Where do you see KBD67 V3 full kit? I only see the case on the website.
The V3 only comes as a case unfortunately... requires the lite as the donor for the internal components
Do you think pe foam with a thickness of 0.75mm will be to thick?
It might be too thick actually :( I suggest something under .5mm
Does the fr4 plate actually make the keyboard more poppy as opposed to the stock polycarb? Or is that just the mic?
The FR4 plate is bit stiffer, so it does change the sound that way!
@@Keybored Thanks!
did you use your DIY silicone case dampener in the v3 case as well?
Unfortunately there wasn't too much space in there so I used the provided foam that came with the kbd67 lite!
@@Keybored cool cool cool cool! Thanks!
Wait is this the r3 gb/temporary instock or the like version 3?
v2 and v3 same thing, but the r1 a bit different
This one is the R1!
When you applied the pe foam did you have the stablizer wires above or below the pe foam? Or was it a complete cutout?
Hi Mimoe! For me, I did a complete cutout around the stabs to ensure there was no interference!
@@Keybored thanks!
By the way, have you tried tempest mod?
Did you have any issue with the PE foam when assembling the board? In my case, the little screws just would not bite and I couldn't screw everything together.
Fortunately, I was able to use some really thin stuff, and it worked without any issues!
Hi, I don't have a KBD67 Lite, but I can just buy the KDB67 V3 and get the other parts separately right?
Yup you sure can!
@@Keybored Just so I don't miss out anything, I need the KBD67 V3 case, KBD67 PCB, Poron Case Foam, PC plate. Is there no foam between the PCB and plate?
i have the kbd67 v3 also just wondering do you think the slight clackiness from the video is from the fr4 plate?
Combination of the plate and also the pe foam as well!
hi, is the red escape keycaps included in the epbt dolch?
Nope! I took it off from the GMK Godspeed set!
This is the video I was looking for - many thanks. Just ordered the kbd67 lite r2 with black ABS case and I am coming from a modded alloy Tofu60 so I am not sure how I will feel about plastic. About to pre-rder the Mode SixtyFive so this will be a nice project until it arrives in December.
Do Boba U4T's sound decent on the kbd67 lite or do I need to gets something like Lavenders or Gateron Ink Blacks for the thock?
Yup! The boba do sound pretty good on the lite! Have a great thock!
i ran to amazon to get some pe foam
:) Good luck!
Heh, nice, my kbd67 lite r2 is with cap milk :D
The v2 caps are actually pretty good!
Kbd67 upgrade? Interesting
Yup! It was interesting to see them launch that
which specific pe foam did you use?
I used this very thin tissue paper like one from another electronic bag lol
i have no money..... but this might have to be purchased anyway
I say that to myself all the time too lol
I actually see myself getting forked and hated in replies, possibly, but I don't like the Cap Switches sound. Sounds like, idk, just sounds empty to me. I know that's not the way to put it, but that's just how it feels to me.
The great thing about this hobby! So much to choose from!
for $300 or so you could join GBs for much better looking boards so if you think alu case is something you want, dont buy 67Lite imo.
You make a great point!
however u don’t have to wait a whole damn year for a gb from a sus runner like graystudio to ship ur board
Is $269 really only mid level?!
:( some won't even consider it a mid at that level
Bruh what's endgame 1000+ ?
@@penguinkraftz3329 no such thing exists lol. Some people consider the Vega an end game and that was in the 300s GB. Others will do it by cost... But if it makes you happy and you don't need anything else to make you happy, that's end game
zamn, that’s marble
:) Thank you!
Time to sell the alu case before it's ded lol
Lol. Worth the pe mod, it actually sounds very nice
@@Keybored i agreed, tape mod just sound awful on my spacebar
May wanna warn folks of the small dangers involved with PE foam modding. Static.
Good point!
Uh oh, time to spend more money on keyboards
I know... I always have the same dilemma
My least favorite keyboard trend is the clicking of the mouse before starting a typing test. It’s a waste of time.
I use it to sync audio and video :)
is it not helpful for getting a reference scale on the sound? I find it very helpful
wow a waste of a whole 3 seconds
It's fine this way when he's actually editing multiple shots and needs to sync, basically what they do with a clapperboard in the film/tv. But they also edit that part out lol. Also gives a comparable sound to edit with since in person sound is so different than what the mic picks up. I do find it useless when people are just uploading a single unedited clip and trying to do that for seemingly no reason other than everyone else does it and then using sounds that are not consistent like clapping hands or snapping fingers which becomes useless when you don't edit the sound, need to sync or even making a sound that is replicable by the viewer.
