All I’m gonna say is that I’ve Been in Guard for about five years and I’ve been helping my instructors with taping and I don’t even know how to tape a flag yet so I really wasn’t much help but now I am thank you Nicholas Carter you’re the best continue making videos for your entertainment
I was in guard back in high school which was like 15+ years ago!! And I just bought a pole, silk flag and some weights from the Band Shoppe for funzies! I don't remember how to tape a flag and now they come with these tabs on the silks. I get on RUclips and voila I find some tutorials!!! I've looked at, at least 5 and yours is by far the most informative and helpful!! So thank you a ton for making this tutorial!!! Appreciate it very much! 😁
I just did this too, only it’s been 35 years for me 😱! I wanted a fun way to build & maintain upper body strength. Everything is different these days, but I’m loving all that I’m finding on RUclips. Nicholas is great! Winter Guard did not exist in the 80s, but we came in 1st place in field band competition in NY state 😊.
Hey! Last year was my first year of colorguard as a 7th grader. Since corona ruined this year, I didn't want to get worse :( So I decided to order one and this video really helped me set my flag up :) Thank you so much! :)
My Sophomore year in high school is made a huge mistake. During practice my stopper came off and I didn’t have enough time to tape it. Cause practice was almost done. The next day was the worst day for me. During 6th period the team were doing warm up and I forgot to tape my stopper. I don’t remember what warm we did first for flag. I think it was a toss. So I tossed it in the air. My stopper and bolt came out and hit one of my team mates in the elbow. I regret that day so much. My punishment was to do 110 push up. So through out the years of my high school experience of color guard. When ever I would here my bolt clanking inside the pole. I would Immediately tape my flag. So I wouldn’t repeat the mistake I did.
Excellent tutorial! There’s a loop in the end of the tabs on the flags so that the silk will stay in place. Just pull the tape through the loops this way you only have to wrap once 😊✨
This was a super helpful tutorial! Are there other places you'd recommend getting silks from though? As both the shops you mentioned don't ship outside of the US.
Im Getting my practice flag off off eBay and I looked up the silk and it is usually about 40 dollars brand new and I'm getting mine for 18 dollars!! and I really want a king Sabre but they are EXPENSIVE!! so I'm getting a synthetic blade King Sabre (it's listed as an SB :and it's about 100 dollars cheaper (I'm getting a 39" and it's $115 I think the 36 are $105 mabye??? ) just some tips for those who want to save a little money ☺️☺️☺️
Using tape to color your pole just kind of gives the flag an aesthetic look so that way it matches the color of the silk and the show you do not have to do that you can have just a standard metallic pole if that’s what kind of pole you’re using is or you can have the basic white pole that comes from DSI. Most of the time people in drum corps or Wintergard are usually going to use contact paper in order to tape the color onto the flags like they’ll do what I showed you the basic taping of the flag and then over top of all of that they’re going to put the color on it but you can also use electrical tape if you really want to and just do really long strips down the pole.
Hi, do you know where I can purchase a 42x60 flag silk for a 7ft colorguard pole by any chance? I’ve searched bandshoppe, Amazon, eBay, and couldn’t find any silks in that size.

What is the reason for using pole tape and how would you recommend putting it on

My flag came with velcro, what is that for and is it necesary yo use?
I’m trying to figure that out, too.
My flag doesn’t have a silk even though I got it from our winter guard this year 😢
