Thank u sm this tutorial rlly helped. I’m in colorguard & this is my first year doing it & I got my first practice silk & I’m getting my pole for Christmas this year & I’m excited to start spinning again. Btw my season ended a month ago
This is a fantastic video, even though I'm not a fan of that gap between top end cap and silk. In my experience in college, drum corps, and with coaching high school, it takes a lot for the bolts to fly out if the cap is taped down securely. So to me, it seems a bit overkill. But everyone has a preference.
I have been following David's (misterghostsir) videos but am glad to find you to get an insight into Crown's guard. Best wishes for a great season. I will be seeing you in Lynn MA and Allentown. I support Crown the best I am able and you can count on having at least a snack sponsored by me, or maybe a breakfast.
Just curious, I've never seen anyone tape their flag so far away from the end of the pole. We usually place it to where when the stopper goes on, it covers the very edge of the flag. Is this just a preference thing, or does it effect (affect?!) the way it spins? Thanks :)
It's all preference! The reason I tape my flag a distance away from the end of the pole is, because in my experience, the stopper is prone to being cut by the bolt and the ground when dropped a lot and adding more tape in that area makes the end of the flag pole wider, making the stopper bulge out a bit when placed over the tape pole and silk end. I use my typical wrapping method to tape on the flag without adding more tape to the end underneath the stopper. Moving the flag 1-2 inches when taping shouldn't affect the way it spins.
@@aronisraelpinon908 the standard pole sold by most colorguard companies is 1 inch, but in some cases, I've seen colorguards spin thinner poles or special material poles.
@PaulScript Thanks sooooo much. Hoping to start my journey in this field. You're such a blessing to an aspiring color guard. You're so amazing 👏 🙀 😯 ... ❤️
I use a 3 inch bolt in the top and a 2 inch bolt in the bottom with 3 nuts on the top and 2 nuts on the bottom. BUT most colorguards use 2 1/2 and 1 1/2 inch bolts.
If you mean extra pieces of white cloth where you tape the silk onto the pole, you can either cut those off, or leave them on and tape over them (depends on preference and where you bought your flag from). It's just another way to secure the silk. Personally, they are little long so 1) for the piece that's at the tab, I fold it in half, leaving a half of it to be taped over and to secure the tab. 2) if my crutch tips are in good shape and don't mind being squeezed onto the pole, I fold the top end OVER the taped bolt, do a little spiral taping to hold it in place (focusing more tape on where the silk meets the cloth tab), and tape the crutch tip over like usual.
For the pole, I bought it from a band/colorguard online site (FJM I think). The silk I got from Amazon (DSI Practice Silk), the electrical tape, bolts, and stoppers (furniture stoppers) I got all from a hardware store (Home Depot)
5/16ths of an inch. is what the box says I think. That's the width of the threaded portion. The head of the bolt is like 1 inch, and the lengths I use are 2 and 3 inches but 2 and 2 1/2 works just as well too.
By end caps....do you mean like really tight hard plastic caps? Those are designed to protect the metal edge when shipping, but I would still recommend getting rubber stoppers for the ends. BUT IF THEY ARE rubber stoppers like the ones in my video....thats fine
PaulScript oh yea they are the plastic hard ones but I don’t really have any access to the rubber ones, and it’s just for recreational use I’m not in color guard (I want to be) so I think they will suffice.
*casually sends this video to every rookie on my guard*
Megan Banks bro they never even let me learn to tape and I was on both weapons as well, my guard be slackin

Thank youuuu I’m going into my second year for gaurd and decided to get a flag if my own
Great video! Do we need weights or are those optional? Sorry I'm new to this.
Ali neeeeeeed
Definatly need them. The weights make sure you can actually throw your flag
does it matter if you use the velcro on the pole? i have some but i am not sure where to place it and etc.?

My flag/silk cane with white tabs in the openings should I tape those or tuck them in and tape the flag
I used to tape them, but then I was using a lot of tape so I just tuck them in
What type of silk is that ? And where did you get it from? :) Is that the same silk that Carolina Crown spins?
GUARD i ANGEL it's a poly china silk from the band shoppe, but you can basically get it anywhere. The dimensions are 36"x54"
Hi.. thanks for the video. May I ask how big is the pole? Thanks so much. I'm planning to make my own flag..❤
The standard for colorguard is a 6 foot pole. I bought mine of Amazon recently.
@@PaulScript thanks so much. How about the diameter of the pole? Is it 3/4 inches?

@PaulScript Good day, may I ask if it's okay to use a stainless steel pole rather than an aluminum pole?
What size bolts do you use ?
I use a 3 inch bolt in the top and a 2 inch bolt in the bottom with 3 nuts on the top and 2 nuts on the bottom. BUT most colorguards use 2 1/2 and 1 1/2 inch bolts.
Helpful. Thank you so much.
i was putting the bolt in for the bottom part of the flag but it keeps coming out... what should I do
May I ask you a question, please? Where did you buy this blue flag silk?
When I first bought my flag I bought the pole and silk together just to bundle it. But now I just buy my silks from Amazon.

does it matter what kind of bolts i use?
This was helpful but my flag has tabs on the silk sooooo idk what to do hete

is this aluminum pole?
Yes
