Linus everymorning: how can i waste my money
You really think he pays for this stuff? Bit naive there...
You ever heard of trial version and in some cases he have it allready ... in some other cases he bought it or got it from someone.
I am not sure you realize that once a company reaches certain size, and your data requirements cross certain border, you start looking into Business and Enterprise grade of things. $300 Synology NASes with WD Reds and free OneDrive is going to get you only so far. I am sure they looked into much more robust storage solutions (think: SAN), but quickly backed off after seeing the price not only for hardware but specially maintenance fees. There are also certain laws about data retention (depending on country, 10 years where I live) and personal data security that companies needs to obey.
Linus clearly stated he needed a server license for storage replication software. Besides, you can get 180 days for evaluation on Standard edition.
Maybe he already owned it cause HE RUNS HIS OWN SERVERS!!!
Any Windows will run for 30 days without product key.
"We had a slogan, but Linus dropped it." 😂😂 Best one yet!

so the server version functions better as a server?... never would have guessed
Linux functions even better >_
This is often true but Microsoft dose have a lot of resources and there are legitimate reasons to run a windws server, some features work way way better.
Silica lol you are annoying little boy that likes anime. Explain how there is exactly 0 competition from the Linux world when it comes to enterprise desktop virtualization or application virtualization IE Citrix Xen Desktop? Tons of huge banks are still rolling out server 2012 R2 so that they can setup Xen Desktop 7.6.
mr WRX don't be like that, you are not a cool guy.
G-WRX if you dont know what your talking about then stay out of the comments. Ever heard of red hat? I knew that off the top of my head but it takes one simple google search to prove your just a dick looking for a reason to spit on anime and spout garbage on the internet to make you feel smarter than everyone else. Why are you even posting this as a reply to the OG post? nobody that was talking about anything that made your argument relevant.
Please, everyone knows that the real performance boost comes from using red LEDs instead of blue ones.

something1random23 I mean, in theory servers are designed to be more lightweight so you would think it'd perform a lot better than Windows 10 but in the real world it is definitely not the case.
Ken in theory, enterprise solutions are supposed to prioritize stability and accuracy before performance, while consumer products are usually more suited for performance needs. This is why we see things like ECC memory only available with Xeon chips and the like.

I hate desktop versions of Windows. But in enterprise networks Windows Domains cannot be replaced by any Linux distribution. This is sad, but the truth. You can’t compare Windows Active Directory with other Products!
It's weird, but it seems in the software world, the less you pay for something, in general the better it works.
tpcs True, Linux is not the best gaming platform right now. But in terms of usability, it's oh so much easier to put up with than Windows.
tpcs yes, its mostly the drivers and a few bad ports. Linux isn't really supported right now with gaming even if it does have a port. It's usually not as good I do hope they can fix that
Bradley Stone I'm hoping we see more Vulkan games soon. That'd be awesome..
Jeremy W i agree :) vulkan performs awesome under Linux. Did you see how Doom plays with vulkan under wine (2.0 r2 staging i think) there was no performance drops on the video i seen from penguin recordings

Windows Server:
* Costs anywhere from $500 to $6000
* _NSAKEY (among other giant fucking security holes)
* Wastes CPU and memory on an ugly-ass GUI
* POSIX support only available from a third party
* Development tools sold separately (for another $1200)
*nix Server:
* Free software
* No backdoors
* GUI is disabled by default, but can be used if desirable
* Native support for POSIX
* GCC or Clang usually in base install
You tried, Microsoft.
Myconix *nix lacks any equivalent to active directory which makes it shit for anything enterprise
I always laugh when people with no background in IT or software development say "Linux/BSD doesn't have so it's bad." As if somehow, decomposing a utility into component parts, rather than just letting it be one giant, monolithic blob of feature creep, is a bad thing. Though usually it's script kiddies whining about GCC not having a built-in IDE. God forbid you sully your hands with a command line.
In any case, you can go ahead and tell that to Google, IBM, Oracle, Red Hat, Canonical, 66.5% of all computers acting as web servers, and 99.6% of the TOP500. Go on, I'll wait.
How am I shifting goalposts? If anything, you pulled an ad-hoc rescue of "muh' corporate space," which means literally nothing because most of the Web is technically "corporate space," and I gave you the names of corporations which don't run any Windows servers internally. Then again, maybe if you didn't outright ignore valid data and evidence against you, you'd realize that.
Though in hindsight, I really shouldn't have even wasted my breath to begin with. You have an anime avatar on RUclips. If statistics mean anything, then you're probably some morbidly obese 20-something-year-old moron who failed community college and lives with your mom. Have fun with your castrated version of 389, bro.
You're shifting goal posts by using only web servers to demonstrate % usage. Not all servers are webservers.
RedHat also is paid for so saying that's a downside of only Windows is wrong.
*nix OSes have their own share of security issues.
Windows Server doesn't require a GUI either.
POSIX isn't necessarily a requirement.
Neither is GCC or Clang and is honestly a very specific need.
Windows and *nix each have their own uses.
Linux has vulnerabilitys, atleast theres no fucking backdoors
and vulnerabilitys get fixed in 2 secounds
I'm running Windows Server 2016 because it's free on Microsoft Imagine. Best part of WS2016? No Cortana, no Windows Store, no random automatic updates and all the privacy settings are disabled by default.

the eye can only see windows 7 we don't need windows 10.
w7 hated me kept crashing and stuff even though i loved how it looked and felt
okay this is a meme i'll actually support. i like this.
GamingTurkey everyone just download Classic Shell. If you set it up right you can have the performance of windows 10 but it all looks like windows 7. I love it.
Grek Aka Drizzle Windows 10's GUI is horrible. The OS itself is very unstable, and it just randomly crashes while using it. it's not my computers fault, this is a 900$pc with 8gb of ram, a core i5, and a Nvidia 940m GPU. i have 4 other computers with windows 7, and never have i experienced one of them freezing and bsod'ing me. they are maybe slow, and take a long time powering on, but that's just because of the old hardware.
Windows 10 just has a cheap feel to it, like unlocking the computer in sleep mode:
it shows the background for a split second, then shows the colour i picked for windows (dark red) for a split second, then freezes, and then makes a "nice" password animation. if the animations worked like in windows 7, it would be fine. but they don't 2/3 of the time. the first year of using it, i couldn't even open the start menu. it just did nothing! id press it, and it'd show the hovering over and clicking animation, but nothing would happen. the pinned icons weren't there, just animations, but without the icon itself.
they haven't gotten any better since windows 7. maybe new, but not better. it's not the same thing.
Eyes don't exist.
or.... you have a free alternative that mosts servers run: linux.
Windows server is still basically required for most companies though. Users are all going to be using Windows and AD makes it a lot easier to manage them. Plus you get things like AD Sync with Office 365
@@fifteendollarbill You do know that there are more Linux VMs on Microsofts Azure cloud service than Windows Server ones?
Bryce Griffin u don’t need a windows server in order to run a windows network, in fact there is no difference apart from the fact Linux terminal (I prefer Debian) is 100x better than CMD and the fact Linux is free. Linux is better than windows in everything apart from how easy it is to download stuff on windows and how gaming is better on windows.
@Windows Explorer // Exploring Windows Linux server has a totally diffrent market than Windows server?
@Windows Explorer // Exploring Windows Wrong. This is simply wrong. First up, a non-pro probably wont spent over 1000$ on an operating system. It is also wrong that windows is easyer. Linux can install apps with 1-3 clicks and the method is (almost) always exactly the same. Linux doesn't annoy you with updates. Linux doesn't need an antivirus. Linux is more stable. Linux is faster. Linux doesn't spam random popups at you. Linux doesn't tell you wat you can and (more importantly) cannot do with your system. Linux' install process is easyer. Linux doesn't have a thousand different interface styles, but only about 5, and in most cases, the other ones will auto-adapt to look and feel almost the same. Linux doesn't force you to pay for a license. Deploying Linux on a server is easyer, too. Now to be fair, most of these things only apply to some distros like Ubuntu. But have you ever even used Linux in like, the last 5 years or so and have you actually tried to not force yourself to think that Windows is better? The only 2 arguments that can be made in favor of Windows is 1. since it is installed by default on almost every new pc, it has a massive userbase with lots of support (but then again, since Linux is fully open, it's more often than not gonna be much easyer to get community support for technical issues) and 2. it has a higher software support. However, Linux is, thanks to things like "Wine" and Valve's gaming optimized "one-click" fork "Proton", that gap is starting to close, and at an increasing paste. But yeah, if you want to use edge and the most bloated office suit on the planet where you are not gonna use any of the " exclusive features", then I aggre, Windows is easyer. Otherwise... no, no it's not.

Linus hey I wanted to address the lowered benchmarks in Windows server settings. In Windows server the application priority is set to background services. Therefore your benchmark doesn't get priority when doing anything that's foreground. The server set up so that it can manage the network and clients in the background, especially for AD DC, DNS and DHCP calls. So you might try re-running the benchmark in a different video with the applications process priority set to foreground applications instead of background and system services.
Chris Storer this is true. but wont effect the conclusion. witch is for the tested programs normal windows is all you need. spending 1000 dollars more wont give you any more power
+egoon well, if you buy the server edition, you buy it for one purpose... you buy it to have your services to run... and it has different functionalities, optimized for... well, you know... This is not a good comparison at all.
I was going the write the same. As he explained, the reason Windows Server got lower scores is because it's by default configured to prioritize background tasks/threads/processes as opposed to Windows.
That should be the first thing that you should do after install Windows server as workstation.
In the 1st place if windows server run faster the marketing will definitely put it in the feature, people will buy $1000 card what stoping them to spend another $1000 for 5% bump. It really is not a good comparison but still.... we finally get confirmation so good enough.
"we had a slogan, but Linus dropped it".... omg please keep that forever :D
Hello! You forgot to tune base settings before benchmarks.
Like app priority which is by default forgeround for 10 and background for server.
so basically...don't spend 1200$ on Windows? man who knew
mrWaldow windows server has benefits for servers. Obviously you shouldn't use server 2016 over a desktop os.
BgibbzGaming yeah obviously..but that makes this video kinda useless
It's for people who think more money = the better it is, and that's true *and* not true for a lot of stuff
Unless you are building a server or need some hardware limitations like support for two socketed CPU removed.
i/m not even having legal one xD
You need to enable WiFi services using Add Roles and Features in order to get WiFi to work on Windows Server.
Georg Pf indeed
Plus the Intel drivers for desktop hardware often refuse to install on Server editions and require tweaking.
The reverse ends up being true as well. I had a lot of problems with drivers when I was running a dual xeon workstation.
That's not the solution. One thing's the role and the other is the driver. You can have either one without the other.
You can just use an USB wifi dongle. It will use USB drivers instead of wifi drivers
Maybe performing actual server tasks on a server operating system will be a performance revelation.
7:28 solution is to install Wireless LAN Service through Server Manager

Uhm, it's a server edition, not a supercomputer edition. Servers are about efficiency, not processing performance. It probably doesn't matter there either, but you're testing a dumb hypothesis to begin with.
DarKMaTTeR yep.. sad video
he already knew the outcome of the video from the beginning he was just showing people. linus isn't dumb
You're still in the PC mindset. The performance of single server doesn't matter, because you can add more servers. A server edition of anything is (or should be) optimised to run on cheap, energy efficient hardware, and not to squeeze performance out of fancy hardware. The OS itself should be optimised for throughput of independent tasks and not for response times and tight loops of sequential tasks, which is what the common benchmarks are about. Linus' method of putting the best hardware he can find and running benchmarks misses the point 100%.
Sidney Turner Yo a degree but won't be mind blowing. Servers need to be efficency in energy consumption so that many servers can run in a farm. That room can get toasty and electricity gets sucked up like a hoover vacumn as you cool the everything.
Isn't Windows Server supposed to be used for data management and storage? Who would game on it?

You could use, ya know, Linux..
A comparison of Windows 2016, Solaris (FreeBSD), and SUSE (Linux) would be awesome. But, I don't know if Linus has the knowledge of server tech and workloads to pull it off well.
Linus has knowledge in producing BuzzFeed quality tech videos for the views!
Its his writing team that comes up with the scripts etc., he himself is a dumbass LOL.
For some reason, the big tech RUclipsrs seem to mostly ignore Linux.
I mean, you'd think that at least one of them would at least do a video on how one could use a live Linux USB to perform data backup on a broken Windows install.
It's pretty straight forward to do a data backup on a broken Windows installation.
I've learnt to never have anything worth caring about losing personally, since I've formatted computers a shit tonne of times in the 10 years I've been using them - because when you've lost stuff before you tend to not make that mistake again.
P.S Windows sucks.
I was watching a RUclipsr who did Linux videos. He even helped develop Linux. He said that he was leaving Linux because the community was so hostile. They just couldn't handle the fact that Linux has some serious issues.
Another config difference that you didn't note (or I missed it) is that by default Windows Server prioritizes background tasks by default, Home/Pro versions prioritize foreground tasks- This is likely why the results are slightly lower for the server tests. It is in Advanced System Settings.
>Be Linus
>Using any edition of Windows Server for anything other than AD
this setup linus, is very amazing
i can recall in similarity when lon had made a pc on a board, much similar to ur setup
but the difference here is, i think that both pretty much are pretty nice
and despite all of the bad comments u had from people involving this video, i am one of the people, who actually like this setup, for several positive reasons:
1. if u are making your own pc and taking in to careful consideration how it manages , but the good news is, if its pre built, then there would be that extra level of protection so no parts get damaged due to wear and tear
2. gaming, out of curiousity, i think that theres some good in how u manage a create ur own pc with gaming,
so that they can play video games
3. servers. i have to agree with u about what u said about performance , but it depends on what pc its on, if a create ur own pc is on a very super fast pc like a really big desktop, then there shouldn't be a problem in perfromance, generally because of the fact that they are much easier than mini pc's
4. media centers , as i mentioned in the previous comment during the wan show, which is about Plex and other media centers,
if a create your own pc is optimized for running media servers for movies, tv shows, and even music, such as programs like plex and kodi, then the Massive amounts of movies and tv that goes into a media center would be easy to go into it
and you would get the most out of it
You don't buy a windows server OS to use as your personal computer. You buy a server OS because you have a domain for your company and you want to integrate with Azure in the Cloud or just want more features to manage your domain.
Server's are not designed to run games or high graphics, its not optimized for that. They are optimized for handing network activity and managing domains, active directory, exchange server, hyper v, or other roles for your server.
Even if you have the extra money for the server OS for your gaming computer or personal computer, you should invest that money into better hardware instead of the server OS.
degen83 genius! - I think that's the idea of the video.

When an 8 core CPU was "balls to the wall."
It would be interesting to see if there was a difference on lower end hardware. The performance would be lesser for both but it would still be accurate (the bottlenecks Linus mentioned are not an issue if they exist on both PCs). I'm just curious if W Server might have better resource utilization when pushed on not so capable hardware. It would kinda make sense as servers are built to withstand extreme use but also with as few costly components as possible.
no one buys windows server for desktop or for performance related. people buy windows server for its features, Example, Active Directory, DFS, IIS, or any other features windows server brings that windows 10 doesn't give you.
IIS is also available for Windows 10
if you're comparing Windows Server, why is 8 cores "balls to the walls"? surely any benefits would be in multi-cpu, high thread count operation. or for the purpose of a single video was a workstation dual Xeon test bench too expensive?
and why was there a drop across the games? Dx12? would have liked to see this covered...
Yeah, I was thinking that. A drop in game performance is interesting. So, perhaps Windows 10 would see less performance in certain server applications. You can't compare a server OS to a consumer OS without running practical server workloads.
Many games and software wouldn't be able to work with more than 10 cores or 20 threads.
Because there is other shit running in the background most likely
Not all Windows Consumer versions support any amount of CPUs and Cores (at least it was like this in older versions)

Does $0 Linux perform better?
Im positive it does. It powers our whole lifes in one or another way.
Probably. Because it has both server features, and Desktop features, AND all the optimization of both. It does require a decent bit of work and customization to polish it up for you needs. Once it's ready though, it's rock solid.
I'm not the only who thought about that weird angled cation tape on the wall. How would that look a roll?
The performance drop is because the server edition Windows favours background tasks, while the other version favours foreground tasks.
This video feels like the answers would have been obvious from the onset. I'm not exactly sure what the point of this video was.
Geekin' Dad geting views
it was to show people that the extra price was for the features not the performance. linus already knew he isn't dumb
But he didn't really explain why someone would use server in the first place, and in the set up he was comparing home to ultimate, not desktop to server, so this video just fell flat for me
Most of his videos basically simplify things we would consider obvious. I find them great for sending to friends. I used to have to explain stuff myself.
+Justin Hannay Having watched from the NCIX days and the Duke Nukem "cosplay" days, I know what you mean. This is just one of those videos that baffles me, and felt like there needed to be more unpacking of why things are the way they are, and the purpose of Server v Desktop OS, etc.
Install Linux. Who the fuck uses Windows for a server anyways?
Linux is innately more secure and powerful, as it was designed for multiple purposes from the ground up. I guess Windows Server is just for people who hate using shell commands and the people who want Active Directory and certain tools.

Can't see it in the video, so going to ask. Did you change the scheduler priority from background tasks to programs? If not, that could explain a lot of the differences
Wow. The ignorance in this video is tremendous. No one is actually paying the server edition of Windows for performance. They are paying that big buck for it's features. Ugh. I really thought that Linus would research first before making these kind of videos. :\

Patrick Mendoza Don't be stupid, the hypothesis that : '' As windows server edition is more expensive, presumably it runs better''. Hey Linus, did you change the background optimization to foreground performance? Otherwise, that would pretty quickly explain the gaming results.
I use Windows 2012 R2 for my server. Runs like 8.1. Love it!
4:11 you can hear someone laugh in the background if you are careful.
Linus, did you toggle the system performance setting from background process to programs? By default, windows server focuses on multiple background threads and doesnt give priority to apps running in the console session (gui). This could explain the small difference.
we will never know
do windows 7 vs windows 10
Windows 10 won.
Your opinion doesn't matter.
Benchmarks said it that.

BaseFocus i had windows 7. In my opinion is win10 much better
From my research I believe the performance on the Windows server is less so it has more capacity for a server as if you are running a website it would use most of it's specs for keeping the website up etc/server
Hi Linus actually Windows Vista Sp1 for the first time merged both client and win server kernel. Improving the time to market of Msft Os's and prevented allowed them to have a single line of development. Cheers.
Why would you run a windows server?
PaxGrime | Viper Boosting Why does Microsoft even make it? Does anyone use it?
Gabriel Rangel Yes. Literally thousands of businesses do.
Aaron Lyman But why? Why wouldn't you run a proper server for free?
Gabriel Rangel Buissness use it. It's not meant for a normal consumer.
Gabriel Rangel Most companies will have a server of some sort, windows or Linux. You will find many websites that use a web server called IIS, which is normally run on Windows Server. yes, it's very common and definitely used.
You could have said no and saved my 9 minutes
.
if that the answer of this like 10 min video thx you saved me 10 min of my life
He said it in the beginning...
The point is show you how the answer is no.
If you went to watch a movie review and it was 6 seconds and the person just said "No, thanks for watching" You would want to know why tf they said that wouldn't you?
Princ 1_1 not all heroes wear capes and sir you are one of them 😉😊
It's very simple to explain. The tested system running under the server version of Windows made a bit lower scores in benchmarks, because Windows Server runs more heavy backround tasks, some services and servers roles like Active Directory, Server Manager, File and Storage Services and has more built-in drivers for some specific RAID-configurations, multi-proccessor systems, claters and etc... All of these is an additional cpu load. So it's necessary to turn them off on Server edition. And you will get more performance running Windows Server under multi-proccessor system or clusters doing some highly multi-threaded work than on a desktop edition.
I think Server might have the processor scheduling setting set to "background processes" by default, correct me if I'm wrong though.
The amount of time and effort you all put into these tests, you've definitely earned a like. 👍 thanks, cool idea.
linus has a balls to the wall system. I have a head to the hand system XD
For software the installation lockout is done by scanning the registry for a key. Client versions use WinNT
Server uses NT server.
Windows Server is set by default to prioritize background services over running apps. You should try the benchmarks after switching this in System Properties>Advanced>Advanced>Adjust Best Performance For (Set this to Apps). Also, WiFi support in Server needs to be enabled from the Server Control Panel, or using Powershell. I've set up quite a number of Servers for companies
"The good news is that, if you are using home Windows, you're already getting the most out of your system."
Unless if you have a lot of RAM.

2:00 Linus did you enable the WiFi feature from the add features menu in general on Windows server? Otherwise that Wifi card is indeed not detected or possible to use it.
3:49 Using Paint on $1000 Windows must be a very exciting experience.
True
Hey. Linus, wifi is enabled in Windows Server as a Server feature.
windows server is made for 1 thing and 1 thing only, to be a os for a server, ist running a ton more thing in the back ground (open taskmaneger on windows 10 and windows server 2016 and see for your self)
its logical that the preforment is lower, win server is using more resorser to operate and does slowing down the pc
Is their a video i can watch where it explains what ram and all of the thing linus says when he s telling us the specs or a pc? it would help me alot thanks :)
I always expect to watch a Linux scored video :)
What ever you think about the whole Linux vs Windows server debate, we can all agree on the fact that nobody uses Apple for servers. (Except for the FBI, and the NSA.)
WHO THE FUCK USES APPLE >_< xD
lol
They do?
The hell does balls to the wall configuration mean 😂
Phrase comes from steam engines, where a rotating device with balls on the ends of arms as weights was used to release excess steam pressure from the system. When it was spinning so fast the arms were all the way out (to the walls!) was because the fire was very hot, and the engine was working as hard as it could.
Windows server is designed for being a server. It contains extra features, but more importantly, more options and stability for server hosting. For example the lpr command (used for some printing) is only available on windows server.
Did Linus even change the processor scheduling from Background services to Programs? There are probably other things you need to do to strip Server down into a workstation.
Even the Official Microsoft Homepage is hosted on Linux... So who uses Windows Server?
So... what's up the shark thing? Was he trying to stay hidden.. or..?
Jaws music was missing :)
+Clemens s.
it was there..... did you have the audio muted?
no it seems I was deaf when I watched it the first time :)
Quick Question - Was the server 2016 settings changed so it priorities applications over the default settings of prioritizing background services? Is there any benchmarks after tweaking the Server 2016 to run better for applications and games?
ooc did you put windows 2016 in foreground performance mode instead of the default background task performance mode when running this test?
HOW MUCH DID THAT FUCKING COMPUTER COST??!!!
Coffee no prob like 8$ or 9$
you guys are dumbasses, the titan itself cost like 4$ the rest cost 22$ it was 26$
ur numbers are so ugly that everyone died. No one can afford a computer in the double digits, it at most cost $9.99
that's 3 digits though.
U guys are all dumb
U forgot to count taxes jeez
I think it's time to change the intro...
Windows server is usually optimized for background task while the workstation versions are optimized for foreground. This could explain the performance discrepancy on games.
I have a non server windows and i did a terminal patch so that way several people can remote log in at the same time using other devices (i use the intel compute stick) so it acts like a server for the purpose i need it to.
I love the content on this channel, but bad form on the title.
Well, a Windows Server is optimized for background tasks.
Linus...have you found boot time differences? I just compared (for a project I'm working on) 2019 server essential vs enterprise 2019 ltsc (1809). I found no relevant differences in performance while using 90% of the programs, but cold boot time was really different: server 2019:14.2 sec; ltsc 24.5 sec; resume from hibernate in 2019 server: 12.8 sec; w10 ltsc 16.6 seconds (average times, same driver revision). MSI Z390M, i5 9600k, M2 Samsung 970 1TB; I know the comparison is highly influenced by hw and sw, and I'm not going to spend 1k in licensing for a few seconds at boot, but it was a major difference. I really appreciate the channel and I'm a long time viewer...keep up your great work!
Hello. Interesting review, thanks. Can you tell me what keyboard you have been used in this video? Thanks. :)
8:12
that smile tho
jesus christ, the server community is worse than audiophiles! Also, the shark edit was hilarious :)
depends which audiophiles..... hope you're talking about those that hear the difference at 192k :)))
Ed Go I'm not an audiophile and I did hear some differences between 192k and 320k but it was barely noticeable.
I can't tell the difference between 48k and 192k with my budget audiophile headphones lol
@@tf2excession exactly, we use it for roles and features that don't exist in non-server os. Anyone using for gaming is wasting their money
Master Basser audiophiles are pretentious retards. Server admins actually know wtf they're talking about.
And yes, if there were "under the hood" tweaks, MS would have done it already.
Server is about services, not speed
That drivers work on multiple versions of Windows is because of backwards compatibility driver models the newer version come with. Windows 7 has 2 driver models for example, Vista's and its own. Even though the kernel is not very similar. Kernel version numbering stopped meaning anything at that time. The actual version is in the product name.
Did you set the performance on the server to "Adjust for...programs"? I think it is set for background services by default. Though, it may not make much difference if you don't have and "server" functions running.
This video is wonderful for the 17 of us with a server.
Christopher McCabe 16* mark had to sell off everything to pay off the kidnappers
*for the 17 of us (nah - not me xD) stuck with windows server - all the other folks are already with linux. rofl
Why would it. Still going to watch though.
This is why you don't by the higher one just use steam background engine for moving backgrounds! haha
Linus, what if you use windows server 16's hypervision to provision multiple windows 10 VM instances with access to the same GPU? Could you in theory split a super gaming rig across 4 older rigs and just use the resources of one machine, like for instance could you throw a full league of legends match off one GPU by using VM instances of windows 10 from a rig like the one you have built here running a server program, kind of like cloud gaming?
but why $1000 windows when you can get ubuntu server for free? (Sorry, i don't use server stuff, but i am a linux user and Windows user)
Good question. Although many enterprises use distributions like Red Hat Linux for which they pay quite a lot and get customer support.
@@user-xr3rb6pn9m Yeah, I guess so. But even that's better than $1000 Windows Server
The best thing to do with a server is switching to linux.
6:00 That happened with Windows 2000, before XP. And the same kernel bit goes back to NT itself, which had workstation and server flavors from the start.
Hi linus i find your videos great and helpful, i would like to know what are these benchmark softwares you used? are these free?
