I suppose it’s a normalicy bias, people not living under the king forget how liberal we already are. I suppose what separates me from today’s liberals is having a morel foundation that mostly came from my elders.
Regarding the liberty, you know, there are lot of people who just do not understand that socialism is not the only alternative to a tyranny. And often it's the reason. And forcing minor part of society to do what majority wants has nothing to do with the freedom. And that does not mean that minority has to force majority either... But the freedom and decreasing the number of regulated topics makes bureaucrats unnecessary and unhappy. They can't stand it. Dunno. It is also hard to force people to take care of themselves. That would be cool if the members of each party had to follow it's program. Like many parallel countries in the same border. Members of party X are paying X% taxes, got X rights, X social benefits and such follow X code. And their government can do X with them. Party Z takes care of their members and not forcing other people to do anything... Many moons ago people could choose the system by moving from one country to another, but now they all are the same - pushing socialism which failed everywhere already. I had enough of that in the USSR... :)
