I was on the Smurf walk through at Canada’s Wonderland a lot as a kid and I remember feeling nervous at the part where you had to pass Gargamel. I think it was the music and the big animatronic of Gargamel that did it. Does anyone know if Canada’s Wonderland used the same soundtrack for their ride even though it was a walk through and not a boat ride? I can’t find any footage of it unfortunately.
This was me as a kid. That Gargamel freaked me out! All the adults would want to get outta the sun. I would wig out as soon as the ride would start, I couldn't help it.
Before it was smurfs it used to be called hannah barberas enchanted voyage in the 70s and of course it features hannah barbera characters such as the hillbilly bears scooby doo and shaggy top cat the banna splits etc so basically you've probably would like that better however footage and photos are scarce I restored some on my Instagram a few weeks or so ago and our theme park used to have a smurfs land instead of a scary looking gargamale on a ride
I remember this ride too, when I was younger, scarred the absolute shit out of me then. I want to say there was a scene either in the Gargamel to Halloween part, there was a smurf with a hand smacking it's face with black stuff. I was so young I don't really recall that too well. Anyone know or was my imagination going crazy at the time. But that stuck with me the most
Loved that ride! Especially when it was so hot out. Nice cool enjoyable ride. Loved the Smurfs and always got a Smurf ice cream cone after the ride. Miss those days!

My memory of the ride as a whole is vague in my mind, but I do remember a Gargamel figure with burning red eyes that terrified me. My parents & siblings never understood it and I was taunted throughout my childhood for having screamed & cried (like the kid in this video) on that ride

Poor ol' Tommy was so much terrified that he probably shit his diaper hardcore...He really sounded like he deep down somewhere he really loved the Smurf ride and wanted to go on it again...he looks like he cried crocodile tears because his face was dry as a bone...This ride never was scary infact it was supposed to cool you off as your stomach is calming from riding some of the coasters and getting ready to eat lunch which is overwhelming to your pocketbook. Then you after eat your lunch...then you go on some water rides then you and your little one will act like Tommy but with cramps and he will spend a couple hours at the first aid station until he shots or pukes...then time to go home...then you say as a parent that was a day well spent...and the money spent on souvenirs could have been spent on a motel room but no you spent it on the kid just so he can puke up the expense of the expensive lunch in your car, and you yell at the brat and slam on the brakes and Pray to God that nobody nails your car because you have only clean napkin to your name to clean up the car and the kid...then a second thought comes to mind. Do I make it to a rest area or do I make back the house to clean the kid and the car...then you look at the backseat and you have a little smile across your face seeing the kiddo sleeping and he is clutching that souvenir that you got him and he wakes briefly to tell you he loves you and also thanks you for a fun day...then you aren't mad about anything about him getting sick or scared riding some of the rides...you also make him a promise to take him again next year...and most of all you keep your word by taking him...and history repeats itself. :)

I remember crying like that on the Phantom Theater. It took me a few years to give it a second ride.

There was a very little tiny lift hill and a shoot-the-chutes drop at the final scene of the ride.
Man how could he cry? That was my favorite ride even as an adult. Plus the king cobra.
The kids probably all had nightmares of evil smurfs attacking them after riding this ....
