oh why cant we go back and relive these memories? Now I am depressed 4.5 minutes of Air Conditioning. And yes I remember the rotating platform
I remember the smell of the water the A/C cooling you off great memories
It was air conditioned in there. It felt nice after standing in lines in the hot, humid Cincinnati summer. Lots of great memories.
Yes, this was a must ride on hot summer days, it was so coooooool in there. Do you remember the entrance/exit rotated with the boats? Old people (like me now!) would stumble stepping on the rotating platform. I can remember going home and only the line from the jingle that ever stuck with me....”live in my tv”. For a couple years I was convinced something was “living” in my tv. Then it went to Smurfs, which was equally great.
That ride was known to soften the hardest of hearts. And that melody got recycled for the opening theme of Hanna Barbera Christmas special of 1973. Thanks for posting it.
I knew the song was re-used in the 1977 A Flintstones Christmas, but wasn't aware of the 1973 special. Was the "Hanna-Barbera Christmas Special" its actual name?
@@KingsIslandHistory banana splits in hocus pocus Park was its name
I absolutely adored this ride as a child. I'll never forget it. Thanks for posting this. Amazing what one can find on RUclips!
I would keep asking my parents to go on the "Scooby-Doo Boats," even though the clown's teeth scared me.
@reychelle6398 At least back then the Banana Splits hadn't been horror movie murderers.
I rode this w my brother when we 2ere young many times.....he died years later in the navy....nice memories
God Bless America! The 54th Air Group wishes you well!
Sorry about the loss of your brother that's good that you got to ride this ride together when you were younger though
I'm the proud owner of one of the original animatronics from this ride! It's surreal to have one!
That's awesome. I have a Huckleberry Hound parking lot sign, and it is a treasured item.
@lennysmom644 I have an Astro parking lot sign and the big white dog in this ride. Tagg from Gulliver cartoon!
I AM SO JEALOUS
This was one of my favorite rides at Kings Island...brought back some great memories...thanks for posting this
The goofy snail! And have a Ha-haaaappy day! 🤣…been stuck in my head since 1973🤣
I remember riding this in '87 as the Smurfs. It was one of the best rides on a hot day, thanks to the air conditioning.
Family tradition of all of us riding this...together...as the first ride. Then split up (parents to shows/kids to coasters) rest of the day. Thanks for posting!
YES! Always the first ride!❤
I hope you enjoyed the ride. Have a happy day!! Man, I couldn’t get enough of this ride. I could wait to hear them say Scooby Doo. I’m sure it must have given my dad nightmares.
I can relate to that I am a big Scooby fan and back in 1984 I went to the park with my girlfriend at the time and they had a show playing called Rock and Scooby over by Hanna-Barbera land and every showing that it was going on I would try to stop and see it there was one time when I made my girlfriend even get out of line and ride that we were waiting on I think it was for the Beast and go over and watch the last showing of The Show for that day Chuckles
The Rockets TV show had Scooby-Doo Yogi Bear and Fred Flintstone in it and it was a 50s theme song where they did some of the dances and songs from the 50s and 60s and Scooby went on purposely be late coming out and getting up on stage stage used to be over where the old classic Corvair Style Style gas powered cars you drove where at those are cool too yeah there never be classic Americana like this again
My lord that song played over and over again for the whole ride i think iam still humming it
Thanks for the memories! And to my parents for many trips here as a kid. Really grateful memories.
Thank you for the good memories. I wore my dad out riding this.
Two things I didn't see in this video:
1. At the end, as you approached the clown, he would "bite down" just before you went through his mouth.
2. I remember up high in two of the rooms there was a chase - a coyote (or maybe fox) and rabbit? (NOT Bugs and Wile E. Coyote, obviously, as those are WB and not Hanna Barbara)
The chase was Mildew Wolf chasing Lambsey with Bristle Hound chasing Mildew! It's from the cartoon called " It's The Wolf!"
Wow! What great memories. Thanks for posting.
This is back from the days when Kings Island was in the cornfields of Warren county in the middle of nowhere. I worked in rides at Kings Island back through the 1980s, they had cameras set up to watch people riding and some of them were quite entertaining.
Thanks for uploading and sharing this video you a classic Americana and Parks like this is sadly something will never see again technology nowadays allows us to do things better but the charm of the 50s 60s and 70s is something that may never come again was a one-time thing and I sure miss it
whoever put this video together-thank you so much. wow. major.
A lot of the cartoon characters I grew up with as I was a kid in the seventies some of them were a little before my time but I remember the Hillbilly Bears I don't remember if they were in this ride or not been a while but I remember the hair bear Bunch on cartoon Saturday mornings
The song is so catchy and upbeat and uplifting. You just can't stay mad or upset when this plays in your head. It's like the song that never ends.( Now that will start playing in your head)
This ride should have lived on, I loved it as a kid
Best ride to cool off on in summer
Next to the keelboat and log rides yes
@@averagecitizen8491 one summer I was feeling so faint from the heat. My friend and I hopped into a boat and floated into the air conditioning!
I remember riding this when I was a kid, a shame it’s gone now
Best ride ever!!
I miss that ride!
That was a great ride! It was great on a hot day and enjoyable! Thanks for the great memories!
Was there a lift hill at the end?
@@williambernstein4313 Not much.
So happy to have found this video! I have had this vague memory from early childhood of being on a boat ride that went through a bunch of cattails and into a forest where there was a huge man, but for the life of me, I couldn't figure out where it was (thought maybe the Columbus Zoo). Then I remembered that there were pictures of me at about 4 years old at Kings Island and decided to look there.
Can you imagine if they keep the ride like this and rotated characters in and out with recent Hanna-Barbera/Cartoon Network studios characters and keeping the popular ones? Today it would be Flintstones, Yogi, Scooby-Doo, Steven Universe, We Bare Bears, Adventure Time, Ben 10 and Infinity Train.
This is great. Love your channel and videos. Keep up to good work!
One of my earliest memories. By the time I was eight they had rebranded it as the Smurf's Enchanted Voyage. I liked this one better.
This is very well done! Thank you!
Rode that one when I was 5, then the Smurfs, as also all the other versions after that
I remember writing this ride in June of 1984
very smart video. good work for all friends here in utah. loving it!we love it~
I remeber riding this when I was growing up. It's sad to see it gone, But progress is always in motion. Maybe something more modern will return some day.
too young to have ever experienced it. a very hard to describe yet sad feeling where i wish i couldve lived earlier to see it. i love hanna barbera and yet its classic shows predate myself my 40-50 years. the only thing to get the experience of these great characters is rewatching the few clips on youtube and collecting the scarce memorabilia
That’s amazing!
Fantastic!
Loved this ride. I was so upset when The Smurfs ride replaced it.
More of these please
Thank you for posting this! Like so many others this was definitely one of the neatest and coolest rides. As a kid in the 70s & early 80s I was always fascinated how this ride worked. Does anyone have any behind the scenes info about the mechanics of how it all worked. I'm assuming the props were at partially pneumatic? I remember it feeling so cool in there on a very hot summer day normally! Very refreshing!
My favorite part was the spooky, haunted section. It never shows up well on these old home movie videos.
I still hum this song and I'm 53.
I think I called it Hanna barbera land when I was little.
Hanna Barbera Adventure Tours Alton Towers
THANK YOU SO MUCH FROM A 90 YEAR OLD FAN OF, "LOOK AT ALL THE FUNNY FACES."
I wish I could have seen the ride and Hanna-Barbara Land. I love a lot of the classic H-B characters.
This was the ride to go on after being in the hot sun cool and dark i would keep riding it the line moved fast
I remember seeing a keychain of the snail (Idk if it was a keychain but it looked like one)
The snail now resides at Jungle Jim's in Fairfield.
I wish I knew where I can find the music?
Napster actually had the song in its entirety about a decade or so back.
Great presentation, thanks - still had the song memorized from my childhood
He’s in such a good condition!
THANKFULLY, I wasn’t around when it was this ride.. that clown at the end.. NOPE!! Apparently, I went on it when it was the Smurf ride (according to my mom), but my favorite will always be when it was “Phantom Theater”.. Same building, I believe, before the Scooby Doo ride
I miss this rude so much
Why didn't they keep this and retheme it to the peanuts mayflower voyagers ride
why has no one put u on the design team yet ??
As a small boy this was scary and thrilling. I can still smell it and remember what it was like to try to bury myself under my Mom’s arm & thigh. Lol!
I always thought it was here in mighty B....
3:07 i was wondering if that yetti was an animatronic, or just digitaly animated
Later the smurfs ride
one time they stopped us inside because of a downpour then started back up..we got soaked coming outside
I can smell the stinky water when I hear this.
Do they still have a ride like this at Kings Island? I haven't been there since I was a teenager, and I loved this ride!
Sadly no.
Cartoon friends with funny faces,
Jinx and those little meece he chases,
Ant Hill Mob, the Wacky Racers,
live in my TV!
I'm friends, with Fred who yells out: Yabba Dabba Dabba Doo!
bosom Buddy Barney too,
and Scooby Dooby where are you?
I love, that mumblin' bear. I laugh at him until I hurt
and when its, Banana Splits
you don't eat them for dessert!
Bristle Hound is not a stranger,
he saves Lambsy when in danger.
Yogi Bear outsmarts the ranger
all in my TV.
Those happy friends who live in my TV!
I knew that stupid song by heart. I cannot remember heat stress ever in Ohio (living in Louisiana 30 yrs) but it was highly AC in that tunnel. Even in HS we respected the child's code of no funny biz in the tunnel with the girlies,.
Quick question, where did you find the HQ version of the song at the end?
I believe that the park released it on an exclusive DVD for coaster enthusiasts years ago. It was ripped and uploaded to old fan websites, like KIExtreme
@@KingsIslandHistory After 2 days of digging, I found it! You are a legend!
can barely see anything but hey that was low light photo/video up till recently right? anyways that clown organ creepy af
I thought that somewhere in the ride was dwarves. Am I wrong?
I rode this several times as a kids took my son in 2003 and it wasn’t there they had changed the name wish I could have found it .
I love that they added the banana splits in this ride [ also I don’t wanna call every boat ride a it’s a small world rip off but the ride kinda looks like a rip off of its a small world to me )
Now we have cardboard cut outs and black lights....
but you can shoot at stuff with lazer tag guns tho
Can some one tell who are the cartoon characters in this ride?
Almost every Hanna Barbera characters
My mom always mentioned the Smurfs ride saying it was the best thing there while she was growing up. She was born in 71' I grew up in the 90s and my favorite was Phantom Theater.. which I now tell my son was the best thing there 😂 I cannot stand Scooby-Doo / Boo Blasters tho.. it's just not enjoyable imo. Really wish they'd bring back Phantom Theater
