UK is declared 'broke and broken,' but what's gone wrong?

Nearly one month after it was elected to run the world's sixth-largest economy in a landslide victory in early July, the new UK Labour government led by Keir Starmer declared the nation was "broke and broken." UK Finance Minister Rachel Reeves has announced a slew of spending cuts after detailing how the new government has inherited a projected overspend of 22 billion pounds from previous Conservative governments. And all this is taking place as violent riots grip the country in the wake of a stabbing tragedy. Is the UK truly broke and broken? What has led the UK - the empire on which "the sun never sets" - to the verge of national bankruptcy? And what can be done to drag the nation out of its many crises?
Guests in this edition of Dialogue are Marc Ostwald, chief economist and global strategist at ADM Investor Services International; Nina Skero, chief executive of the Centre for Economics and Business Research; and John Ross, senior fellow at the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China.

The UK economy is worse than stagnation, it's in decline. Productivity is in decline, efficiency is in decline, and yet the British people hasn't woken up to that, they even tolerate the decline as "not too bad". So weird ?

You cannot cut your way out of recession you've got to invest your way out of recession, the Conservative party are in the dark ages on policy they've got to think again. My primary concern is how to maximize my savings/retirement fund of about £170k which has been sitting duck since forever with zero to no gains.

A strategy to protect against inflation is through the U.S stock market, especially the S&P500 & various ETFs. Investors must know where to put their money and how to distribute it in order to protect it against inflation while still making a profit, especially during a recession.

The truth is that people are finally waking up to the fact that our systems are breaking down in thousands of different ways all around us. Personally, the financial market seems like the only way to go with my long-term horizon (accumulated about £557,000 in earnings since May 2021), but if you don't have that time luck, it's a tough market out there down almost nowhere feels safe!

Trading on a demo account can definitely feel similar to the real market, but there are some differences. It's important to remember that trading involves risks and it's normal to face looses sometimes. One piece of advice is to start small and gradually increase your investments as you gain more experience and confidence. It might also be helpful to seek guidance from experienced traders or do some research on different trading strategies

And often the FED has cut rates suddenly a month after saying they wouldn't... wanting to say that if we got a surprise cut in august, crypto would lose its shit. And I'm still lowkey wondering whether we might NOT get a cut in september, since that's what everybody has decided is gonna happen, or do get a cut, the economy tanks and they come out with a surprise hike later this year. .....currently I've been engaged in active trading, which is generally safer, allowing investors to weather market volatility and also managed to grow a nest egg of around 2.3Bitcoin to a decent 24Bitcoin....I'm especially grateful to Adriana Jensen whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape.

The shortage was known long before the election. Labour is going for Austerity rather than taxing the rich and the Global internet companies. Britain is amongst the lowest for infrastructure investment. Britain is broken, Labour has betrayed the working class and is authoritarian. The police do favour the wrong groups. People protesting against mass immigration whilst allowing Islamic thugs to roam free and threaten native Britains.
All it does it reinforce splits in the country. As for tensions you tend to get more unrest during times of economic booms.
The electoral turnout was low, and people are turning away from Politicians so how can he claim Britain is not broken. As Galloway says they are two cheeks of the same bum. People in Britain are getting poorer wile the rich get richer.
The normal crap from the economists, not a bottomless pit they will go elsewhere yet they want to earn money in the UK.
Why people target immigrants is because unlike the middle class anti fascists who are more fascist themselves is because these people live amongst them. Immigrants may not cause many of the problems but they do benefit from the country while their children do not. It seems ok for the Government to hate Russia and China but ordinary people cannot hate immigrants.
Einstein never actually said that madness was repeating the same thing and expecting a different outcome.

yes, they`re so delusional and ignorant about reality. but the press is spewing propaganda in europe so they`re brainwashed. but their arrogance does not allow them to admit and then to solve problems. similar to US americans mentality. reactionary.

More than 20 years of interminable wars: Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Palestine. 15 of the 9/11 perpetrators were Saudis's; did we attack Saudi Arabia? Lol
It was principally the US and UK pushing for Ukrainian NATO membership in 2008, despite opposition from Spain, France, Italy, Germany, and a significant majority of Ukrainians.

The fact is countries like China and India with large populations are growing and becoming rich others have to become poor because they all compete for the same things you need minerals to produce anything this shit is going to get worse with the BRICS starting to trade each other with their own currencies, the countries who rely on the debt will found it hard to sell it and no more printing because of the inflation, stagnation is here to stay

To play a zero sum game is a choice. A win-win game have synergy, where 1+1 becomes more than the sum of its individual parts. As seen in teamwork.

China does not have many of the materials it needs. what it has done is to Build an infrastructure and bought up the assets in other countries that it needs. However rather than just taking those assets as we and others in the West have done. China also builds up its infrastructure and builds manufacturing plants in their countries. we used to take their raw materials, process them in Britain, and sell the finished goods at higher prices back to the originating country. China builds refineries and processing plants so that the originating country benefits as well as China. they look for win win situations.
