just add some un finished blocks in various stages of completion on the edges of the air processor ... make it look like they are still working on it ... that way it is just 50 blocks or so not fully completed ... it becomes a working work in progress
Can't belive this is already 39th episode, I found you because I started playing space engineers about two week before you started this series, and I have to say, youtubes algorithm worked for once and acually recommended someone good. Great job, nice videos!
22:17 your first drill going upwards I would have just taken the drills off the top of it, and put convey over to the piston which is going to be doing the welding
The different block for the wall in the mountain makes a huge difference, looks great. For the ice harvester, I think having it built like you originally planned will be great, if its open it could give that incomplete vibe
Skye, when you need to access something in your base while looking at a specific area, like when you were positioning those projections, you can just press 'k' or 'i' (by default) to enter your characters screen and in the top left you'll have a dropdown with grid selection. So long as you have an antenna on the grid and are in range you should be able to select it and access remotely. Of course you will not be able to withdraw items, but you will be able to mess around with the settings of any block.
Try creating a blueprint of the wall with the projector and the next segment will appear after the projector is finished. In my opinion, it would be enough to connect the pistons only from the edge of the hole, but you know best what your plan is, maybe it wasn't a big waste of time to connect the pistons from the top of the structure.
How can you configure the projector to project a blueprint that contains itself? or does that part still need to be done manually? or can you update a blueprint after creating it?
@@nurmr The Blueprint should of course be created with the projector parameters set so that the next copy will have the desired settings. This method is suitable for repeating segments over a long distance. If you want to change something, you have to do it manually. The Blueprint and the projector are used to create a virtual copy and not to read thoughts, which we sometimes need.
Sky. I love that you are doing the Vanila and all. But please.. just use nanobots for welding the structures. It will save you tons of time and will not affect the game play, as long you are mostly building giant and non-complex structures.
The core wall is looking great, Skye. As for the ice harvester, why not completely build the third section, but only build the fourth section down to the bottom of the window wall? That way, you get the best of both worlds. From the base, the ice harvester looks aesthetically amazing, but you still have that one open section to see inside and watch the drills do their thing. You could lore-logic it as leaving that section as an open-access port for service technician ships to get in and do any repairs or upkeep that's needed.
Skye you can dump all your in inventory components into anything with an inventory with ALT+Middle Mouse, it will push the items to any inventory that can hold them via the conveyor system. So you could grind each drill then look at the port on the next drill alt+middle click and dump all the pieces.
RE: The Ice Harvester. Ultimately it's up to you. You've done things differently than I would have in the past and it turned out that I liked it when you were done. But currently, my head is saying that the harvester should be completely built out on all sides.
For measuring straight massive lines. 1. Go to anywhere, probably best in space. 2. Make a long stick, with either protrusions or differently coloured blocks every 10. Should probably be like 100 long. 3. Finish it up. 4. Blueprint it, calling it "Measuring stick" or something. 5. Then you just project it where you want it. Then one doesn't have to place out measuring blocks. It can even measure through walls and terrain. Realized one can do it in a massive X thingy, with differing X Y Z colours.
You also wouldn't use canons like that if it was for defense. You would have them lower down so people can't get below them into that blind spot. Yep, I was going to suggest putting welders in place of the drills you just used to drill that place out. Keep in mind there is a direction to them for getting the most out of the reach of the tips. One side of the tips welds further out than the other side.
Complete the APP one idea is hinge the lower sections so you can open and view sort of like gull wing doors on a delorean as always love the thought process
Waited the whole evening for the new episode of Skye Wars 🎉🎉🎉 Edit: Phew... you corrected the O² H² Generator Positions 😅... you know when you see it, you see it...
Tip: Go into spectator view while looking at the control panel, but _before_ accessing it with 'k'. Then you can move your camera to see the projector better, then press 'k' to access the control panel.
i kept asking myself..... "Why don't you piggy back off one of the numerous drills you have..... you can conveyor from the head since it's connected at the bottom...."
Potential 4th option for the ice harvesting, give it the ability to open up like a sports stadium roof. Open it up so see the drills in a maintenance mode, and close it for a defensive lock down. Best of both worlds.
Sorry to say that, but it seems that you projected the blueprint backwards. There are no lamps and slope is not there. You probably noticed that during edit, but just in case I put the comment.
There is a forth option with the Ice harvester. Biuld out the upper part and main scaffolds and side walls, but leave the top open with partially built blocks so it looks like "scaffolding" 😀
(A very VERY late)(next day) Daily positive comment Loving your content just like a lot of other people Skye. I took a look at you RUclips data subscribers/viewers and what not. That growing line is the result of your hard work. I'll be here to watch you grow even more. Also i hope you remembered to pet Picture yesterday 😊
Ive been watching a fair few of the series and you have slightly inspired me to get back into SE and start a new world. Having fun over-engineering what could be a simple problem to solve - keep up the good work with what you have done so far - mine is on XBox though so slightly different with how to choose blocks
I’m in favour of completely enclosing the ice harvester; I’m sure you could probably do some awesome stuff with the open sections, but I’m really invested in you sorting out the docking area for the bulk freighters now.
Dear Skye. Aren´t those wall segments the wrong way around? It seems like the back is in the front and vice versa... you know, with the angled bits suddenly beeing flat, the O2/H2s switched and the lights missing. Otherwise, nice video as always ;D
I like the idea of putting in a floor up to the blue block that you pointed out on the ice harvester and finishing up the top and leaving the sides open on down. Plus is gives you another floor where you can put more storage or anything really. Thanks
for the component problem just make differents tools for your mining ships and use conectors (to have the tools be in the right place use blocs to mabe slide trought)
Another option to save you time is to add a mod called Nanobot Build and Repair to finish filling in the building from a blueprint hologram. You just have to feed it components. Interior blocks use construction components and interior plate. Both of which take less iron to make that steel plate by A LOT. So, YES interior blocks are much cheaper than light armor. im starting to think you should make an auto resourse factory where you keep a stupid amount of every resource you use to build bases, and have it auto restock.
For the ice harvester, what if you finished building it AND left it half unbuilt so you could see the drills? Yeah, wouldn't that be cool?? I was thinking, what would it look like if you used the holograms to finish building it, then (if possible) connect the holograms to a sensor like the hanger doors so that when you get close enough the holograms turn off and you see inside. But from a distance, where you can't admire the internals anyhow, you see a full atmosphere processing plant. 😎
Digging the progress man but I gotta say pick one project and finish it lol your all over the place with huge things your trying to build and now you wanna leave one half built I say finish the ice house at least the exterior of it then go back to the tunnel
I've been thinking about autobuilding things. Is it possible to move projectors with pistons? If so, you should be able to build e.g. infinite tunnel bores. You'd need to build a "stepper" and hook it up with a connector, project a central line of conveyors forward from the stepper's back (where the projector won't move yet), and have pistons extending forward to the stepper's head, with drills on the front, welders on the back, and a connector. If your projector blueprint includes 2 more connectors, one where the connector on the stepper's head will when the pistons are around their max distance (positioned so that the stepper head connector can reach it after the welders have build it) and one more along the way. If that's possible and you can set up the event manager thingy to follow the right sequence of instructions, you can have your stepper in starting position, connected to your base with the connector on the stepper's back. The stepper would then extend, drill and weld until it meets the second connector it just built. It would connect there, disconnect at its back, turn everything off for safety, contract until its back meets the other connector it has built. Once it connects there and disconnects the head again, it's in the exact same configuration as at the start, so this process should be repeatable endlessly if you have the resources. I know nothing about the game except what I learned from your videos, but I like the idea and it might just be possible.
Not got to the end of the video yet but could you change the massive drill heads to welders? They're close enough to the central core wall sections to weld when retracting... (and piped in at the top haha 😂)
So, you say you want the APP to look right. The weapons platforms look great for the most part. You should keep them...And the other blue sections with the horizontal ports on them. If you are going to ditch something to expose the drills, it should be the white sections under the weapons platforms, and join those weapons platforms to the building, maybe with those conveyors (in the theme of exposing the inner workings). I agree with you, I like seeing the inside of a swiss watch, its movement, the tourbillon, but stripping out the guns makes it less interesting.
When trying to move your projector image, go in the settings menu, and change the Opacity of the UI a bit less so when looking up at it and opening a control you can see it better?
Curious why you didn't just re-purpose the pistons you have extending up from the first borehole? Conveyor over to the wall, then down to account for the retracted piston height, add welders and slowly retract those pistons. They're already attached to your inventory system.
ok I might be going crazy, but are those blueprints flipped the wrong way around?? cause i've been looking at the "30 degrees blocks" and to me it looks like they're facing the wrong way
i don't mind leaving the ice harvester open too much. i like option 2 where you build out to the windows. I would also like a door or something at the great big opening not sure what you had in mind.

have you ever thought of using the Build & Repair MOD to do the heavy lifting when it comes to welding up your huge constructions
just add some un finished blocks in various stages of completion on the edges of the air processor ... make it look like they are still working on it ... that way it is just 50 blocks or so not fully completed ... it becomes a working work in progress
Loving it, I think you dont leave any of the ice harvestor open. You already have 4 doors if someone wants to see it.
I think I like it better closed too!
I think it at least needs more framework, so it looks more plausible.
AGREED. I think it just looks unfinished.
yup agreed i think just the door open
I think skye just wants less work
I wait for this series to come out every day! I'm loving it!
I vote build the ice harvester completely out. The faces you have are gorgeous. Why not be beautiful on all sides.
nobody mentioning how the projectors are facing the wrong way? the pillars are facing into the wall lol 🤣
Can't belive this is already 39th episode, I found you because I started playing space engineers about two week before you started this series, and I have to say, youtubes algorithm worked for once and acually recommended someone good. Great job, nice videos!
Welcome to the channel :)
Another great episode Skye! My 2c on the Ice harvester: I like the symmetry of haveing all sides the same/similar (or at least open/closed)
22:17 your first drill going upwards I would have just taken the drills off the top of it, and put convey over to the piston which is going to be doing the welding
Close the APP. But have an internal observation area to watch the ice drills.
Loving the whole series Skye.

Has she been in the background of any of this series?

Careful, she could be listening 🥸 I was never here.

Epic Overload!
My first thought was it would look incomplete. However it was a pretty cool view looking inside at the drills going around.
Waited the whole evening for the new episode of Skye Wars 🎉🎉🎉 Edit: Phew... you corrected the O² H² Generator Positions 😅... you know when you see it, you see it...
You need to remove all the drills and pistons that arnt in use. Both block are PCU heavy, and you have a lot of them bouncing around doing nothing.
Man he is back at it, nice!😊
Tip: Go into spectator view while looking at the control panel, but _before_ accessing it with 'k'. Then you can move your camera to see the projector better, then press 'k' to access the control panel.
I'm sure you already know but those projected blocks are backwards, just a reminder 😅

You don't have to take the extra shafts all the way to the bottom. Having landing pads at different heights stepping up would add character. 😎
You should use those drill on pistons to connect with top, slap few connectors and that's it, instead of building that long conveyor ^_^
Sorry to say that, but it seems that you projected the blueprint backwards. There are no lamps and slope is not there. You probably noticed that during edit, but just in case I put the comment.
I noticed this, too. The slopes seem quite flat :)

Skye, further into the game you should toy with the idea of small mechs or robots. Just an idea keep up the great videos

Having fun over-engineering what could be a simple problem to solve - keep up the good work with what you have done so far - mine is on XBox though so slightly different with how to choose blocks
Close in the harvester, but make a floor out of glass so you can watch it work from above.
I’m in favour of completely enclosing the ice harvester; I’m sure you could probably do some awesome stuff with the open sections, but I’m really invested in you sorting out the docking area for the bulk freighters now.
Love your videos. keep doing a great job, just please finish the ice building, it would look so much better.
fully finish the harvesting compound

0:34 you should fill in that wall, it just doesn’t look finished
I think you should leave the projector on for the ice harvester sections that are not built so you can see through it
that is a huge job that wall
You can connect the up drills to the down drills then you will have it conveyored.
for the component problem just make differents tools for your mining ships and use conectors (to have the tools be in the right place use blocs to mabe slide trought)
like a tractor and have :
-mining
-grabing
-welding
-scraping
- and more
Amazing you sorted the o2 gens hehehe looking so good.

No mods .. no scripts :)
Close in the ice harvester. Put walkways on top to see through to the drills.
Hey Skye you know that if you place an antenna (and i'm sure they are already available on the grid) you can press K and control it remotely from wherever you are, of course you need to be in the antenna range
Look nice 👍
every time you. build something new the scale increases exponentially haha. maybe this is a dumb qusion bc i know nothing about this game other than watching ur play through but wouldnt it have been faster and simpler to just use your new big fancy welding ship? anyway havent heard from picture in a while, miss her interjections
Ive been noticing batteries turning recharge on when i connect on their own too! i thought i had setup a event controler i forgot about or something.
its only been helpful for me but dang must be abug

Noted: can't call Skye a moron, he does it himself ❤️
Interior blocks use construction components and interior plate. Both of which take less iron to make that steel plate by A LOT. So, YES interior blocks are much cheaper than light armor. That takes 25 iron plate to make. Compare that to interior blocks not sure of the number of parts. It is a great way to reduce the use of iron. I say use what makes the space look the best. 😁👍
I like the basic panel. I have used it for landing pads in the past. Those lights do show up slightly, but they do.
You REALLY need a welding ship, my guy!
On the ice base, Kinda partial to finishing the top cupola and maybe down to the floor and rip out all the way around. Only issue is that you would need stairs all the way up for ‘lore’ reasons.
The Book of Armaments has something to say about counting to four I believe.
lol ;)
having access ports (wide open sides) to the ice drilling rig is a-ok, however the thing that irks me a little is,
the gun emplacements - even if just decor - are only covering half the station.
suggestion:
2 gatlings on every quadrant up at the control center, consider them Point-Defense against rocekts, missles & bombs
1 artillery & 2 autocannons on "ground level" for all the quadrants or if you like over kill, at every corner of the baseplate octagon.
it ll be the last suriving installation, once you piss off the other npc-factions.
yeeeeeee again!
dude you love pistons XD
ooh you could have balcony landing pads were wollace ang grommit are digging
Trouble counting to four? May I suggest Psychostick's "I can only count to four"?
Are there glass floors? If so I’d suggest to finish the building is and have a massive glass floor so when you walk into the ice harvester you are confronted with a bottomless pit with a miner going… imagine that with some lighting down the hole, would look awesome!
since there's a welding attachment for ships(I don't play the game, I'm just watching you suffer and asking questions) surely there's a decontructing attachment right? that's a lot of material to break down
There are grinders the same as welders and drills.
yeah a grinding ship sounds useful for dismantling large drill rigs
It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)
The symmetry is fixed!!!!!!
im starting to think you should make an auto resourse factory where you keep a stupid amount of every resource you use to build bases, and have it auto restock.
For the ice harvester, what if you finished building it AND left it half unbuilt so you could see the drills? Yeah, wouldn't that be cool?? But from a distance, where you can't admire the internals anyhow, you see a full atmosphere processing plant. 😎
if you conveyor up the drill bit anyway, you could have dumped the drill components into the drills ;P
Maybe Windows for the ice harvester instead of leaving it open. Because every time I see it I think of is that its not protected from harsh weather.
🎉
Glass wall the rest of the APP using windows, think Norman Foster style, would look awesome
Digging the progress man but I gotta say pick one project and finish it lol your all over the place with huge things your trying to build and now you wanna leave one half built I say finish the ice house at least the exterior of it then go back to the tunnel
Will the o2 h2 from the previous generator travel through another generator to be stored?
I think building the top half of the ice miner, rip out the bottom of the complete side.
Have you thought about randomly building some it taking inspiration from the unfinished Death Star from Return of the Jedi?
it would of prob been faster to use one of the stack of pistons for the up drill and link over to the ones you want for welding
Not got to the end of the video yet but could you change the massive drill heads to welders? They're close enough to the central core wall sections to weld when retracting... (and piped in at the top haha 😂)
It's about at this stage of a build with more than one big project I go screw it, I'm adding a build and repair. Lol
When trying to move your projector image, go in the settings menu, and change the Opacity of the UI a bit less so when looking up at it and opening a control you can see it better?
Skye, please, remove those drills that are no longer needed. My OCD is screaming. lol
Curious why you didn't just re-purpose the pistons you have extending up from the first borehole? Conveyor over to the wall, then down to account for the retracted piston height, add welders and slowly retract those pistons. They're already attached to your inventory system.
I’d say complete the ice harvester
you couldve putseveralprojectors side by side and jsut use different offsets for each one
why didnt you rip the drills off the first 2 drills and use those pistons as conveyors?
or is that not possible?
Just make a welding ship. Or better yet, use the welding ship you ALREADY HAVE
A welding ship would totally suck for doing this
if you take blueprint with the projecton on, then projection it will self project on next part when buildt and so on.
Why wasn't those last pipe toward the topstill yellow as they wasn't connected
instead of doing it all by hand, place welders on the conveyer junctions and just push go
APP with a Glass floor.
ok I might be going crazy, but are those blueprints flipped the wrong way around??
cause i've been looking at the "30 degrees blocks" and to me it looks like they're facing the wrong way
when you say you barely touched the wall, you're traveling at more than 10m/s which is 22mph hahaha (20m/s = 44mph when you hit the wall)
i don't mind leaving the ice harvester open too much. i like option 2 where you build out to the windows. I would also like a door or something at the great big opening not sure what you had in mind.
yeah that would be like usain bolt running into a wall at (almost) full speed
