Pitfall is an amazing game still to this day -- in my opinion of course. it is a must-have for the Atari 2600. But I first played this game on my uncle's Intellivision. And my memories of it, is "Boy, what a blast." And still today when I play pitfall , there's still this indescribable magic to it. It's just a good game !!
Good to hear it was OK for Intellivision, because it looked like Activision didn't bother to upgrade its games for that system the way Imagic did. (I think Imagic had some former Mattel programmers).
Wow i love how you dont swear in the videos because its just overused in retro game reviews , and your reviews are 100 legit , because you dont say the same thing everyone says like in the pacman video, so now i will subscribe, keep up the good work
Absolutely Pitfall was a "must have" game ! And iconic as well ! I mean who doesn't want to swing from vines over dangers and jump on alligator heads while picking up treasure ? ! The very best example of what an 8-bit 4Kb ROM is capable of IMO ! However... I just found out about 3 years ago that Pitfall even had an ending ! (wink wink)... but who the heck knew the secret sequence back in the day with no internet or RUclips to teach you ?
While E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial was a bust for little kids, Pitfall was the Atari game of Christmas 1982. The former should have been a bicycle game like Paperboy. Or as Spielberg suggested, how about E.T. as Pac-Man? Donkey Kong was also a must-have game in 1982, except for me since I didn't do well at the arcade. I played it at another kid's house so didn't need it. It was primitive like Atari Pac-Man. When 3 of the best-selling games for Atari are disappointments, you've got a problem.
@@sandal_thong8631 Interesting and accurate perspectives on the games for the old 2600. I bought my own system with paper route money around November 1982 and the first cartridge I purchased was Berzerk. I hadn't purchased any of the Activision cartridges at the time, and that was an oversight on my part because Activision was the best thing that ever happened to the 2600. A year ago, I picked up a package of the Activision games on e-Bay which were released back in the 1990s and can be played on a PC via Dos Box. I've been enjoying playing the likes of Enduro, Skiing and Laser Blast among others, but alas, no Pitfall in that package.
Great review! I just finally got all the treasures. It took a long time though. I had to draw a map for all 255 screens so I could plan out the most efficient route and know when to go underground.
I mapped it out and won it in 1982 or '83. I tried again a couple years ago and succeeded. In my plan you need to jump 19 scorpions, so if you can't do that in three lives, then you're not going to win. It's too bad they didn't have a win screen after all that effort!

Even though I sometimes feel grumpy about what could have been in 1982-3, I love his optimism and delight for playing games.
I sent a picture of my score to Activision in '82 and got an official patch.....
Sweet.
The patches are worth more than the games now.
My favorite 2600 game is between this & Berzerk
Hooray! Now i'm waiting for tax avoiders to be dethroned

David Crane did awesome work with this classic! Meeting him in person was a great moment for me.
Wow, you upload a lot. Just wondering, do you have an upload schedule? Personally I think they're unnecessary.
Franco Pellegrin I do not have a strict schedule but I do have a calendar that I use for planning that gets changed a lot.
Honestly? I never really liked this game.
I suck at this game
Death tones sounded in my head when I read your comment.
