  • Autumn garden tour! Maybe the last one of the season. It is getting cold outside and my life is focusing on the house now. There is plenty of color in the garden these days, thanks to our New England maples. Reds, oranges, and yellows are everywhere. Enjoy!

Yes, I'd like to see how to make the pots. I love the earthy look they have.

This was interesting, informative and relaxing. Thank you so much, Olga. The more I see of your garden the more I admire the thoughtful, beautiful design of it all! A delight in any season. I can hardly believe you still have a few rose blooms in New England! I would love to see a video on making those earthy-looking pots. Imagine what it would cost to buy a set of them!! Also, I would like to see a video on the making of your new patio cushions, because what gardener doesn't have to deal with the "life cycle" of patio cushions.

I would cross a busy street to step upon a crunchy leaf! I LOVE the autumn colors in your garden! I can't believe it's November and your garden is still trying to bloom! How wonderful! I have made hypertufa, and love to grow hens and chicks in the smaller pots! The larger pots have my herbs in them and the largest pot was a bench size trough that sits on two blocks of cement. I've placed it in a shady spot so I grow coleus and sweet potato vine in it each spring and summer. It's about time to plant pansies in the trough now. You can make leaf impressions in your hypertufa while the mix is still wet. You don't even have to pull the left off, as it will eventually rot away on it's own but I'm usually too impatient to see the results so I pull them off after pressing them in. LOL

Aww, I am coming a bit late into hypertufa, looks like it was a big thing several years ago. Leaf impressions sound so good. Are your pots lasting outside for many years? No breakages?

@@OlgaCarmody Yes, my pots are holding up for years now. I only had one break a corner crack but the hens and chicks look great coming out of the busted area! I don’t mind it at all. The strength depends on how much of the fluffy (Perlite etc.) is in the mix, how thick you make the walls, and the curing experience. As you know, there are a lot of variables in hypertufa.

Olga, have you used strawberries as a ground cover around roses?
I am doing so and they are lovely. Your garden is enchanting! Tu for the tour!

I wonder if you get deer on your property. I get hordes of deer that sweep in take out all the plants, including boxwood. Perhaps I should experiment with rhubarb.

So pretty! My first year growing David Austin roses. Should I do anything to prepare them for winter? I’m in zone 7a. Thx!
