Was that 127 wagons on the ore train? That was impressive!! Great capture and thank you for sharing! Is that schedule on the ARTC website or is it pretty random? I would love to show one to my boy!!!
Also, did you capture a dust devil in that first ore train footage? I saw tumbleweeds flying high in the sky as the train came through

ive got to comment on how the flinders ranges look as if there is good tree cover. has there been an exhaustive goat eradication program going on? i take it that these trains have locotrol and the alco is just getting a free ride to whyalla? is the alco going to get ng bogies for use on the ore lines?

Just getting a free ride, I think it was being transferred for shunting purposes however I am not 100% sure! Thanks for watching :)

It's Wired Distributed Power (WDP), not lococontrol.
The little Alco isn't fitted for WDP, a runaround ECP-WDP cable is used between the two hauling units so that the Alco is bypassed. The 3rd loco in could be getting its commands through normal MU cables, although I'm not sure if the Alco is wired for 'through' dynamic brake commands, alternatively with WDP, the 3rd loco just becomes a remote Distributed Power Unit (even though it is close coupled) in addition to the remote DPU bringing up the rear of the train.

Forgot which direction the train was travelling.
The single loco is leading from Spencer Junction to Whyalla.
Same still applies to the three loco's at the rear, the Alco has a bypass cable, the two hauling units set up as two remote CPU'S, so the driver has a B and a C consist on their DP screen in the lead cab.

theres sg to whyalla now. it never used to be. the ore trains that feed whyalla are still ng.

There’s been SG to Whyalla from Port Augusta for decades now; the NG like stretches out from Whyalla to the mines :)
