"They're giving them toys and us weapons" has got to be the absolute best descriptor to why survivors always say they the games casual and killers play to win. The game reinforces those view points.
I think killers play to win because if a survivor loses, they go back to the lobby, but when a killer loses, they are humiliated

@@bopply2616 funny thing is you'll get survivors that'll teabag and try to be toxic, when 1 you didn't see them literally the whole match, or 2 they did nothing at all the whole match and still try to teabag because their the ones who escaped. I barely started playing within 2 months. Can't tell you how many times players teabag when they didn't do shit the emtire match and then try to be toxic when the hatch just spawns right in front of them
So. Have you guys played solo queue more than 15 times in one week before? You will find out that this stuff is pretty balanced in that sense.
The Sable Ward spends 2 minutes in the basement while one person attempts to loop the killer for that duration, but can only manage 30 seconds before getting bloodlusted into a down, one person doing a single gen and one person is wandering around the map, trying to avoid the looping survivor and the killer.
Watchin' Rowby improve at this over the last few years has been fun, I especially like the references he put in to other games.
I'm surprised you didn't bring up Hoarder as a perk for Vecna, or a combo of his item perk and Franklin's there is some dirt there
I stopped playing dbd a few months before they attended the Unknown. This video will be my introduction to Vecna, haven't even seen his trailer. Will be a fun watch 😂

I recently bought a buncha killers and leveled em for their perks and i've def noticed that basically none of em are "fun" almost 75% of them are auto/non interactive things. Theyre all designed for winning games, not having fun. Just makes me realise why i always would be thinkin more how to win than to have fun in games. Cause the only way the perks do anything is by trying to win. Not by trying anything fun or unique
What I hate about this is that I’ve wanted a Wizard and vampire killer for years and DBD gives me both of them in one anniversary stream AFTER I leave the game…
Also, they gave Vecna the type of power that I ALSO wanted the magic killer to have. Multiple spells to use for different situations!

The issue with giving killers new stuff is that you have to account for *every* killer.
Survivors all generally use the same animations and whatnot, and you can copy paste pretty much anything and it'll work for whatever survivor model you throw it on.
I don't have to spell out that this doesn't work for killer, and you'd have to either make a unique animation for all of them, or find an animation that works for all of them, either of which is a monumental task and could even rub up against contracts for licensed killers.
Not to say this excuses Behavior for giving survivors toys and killers weapons, I think the game would be so much better if they were willing to put in that much effort, I'm just saying that compared to some of the weirdo crap Behavior does, this actually makes sense from their standpoint, even if I don't agree with them doing it.

I still think it would be awesome if there was a killer who disguised themselves as a survivor. Forcing survivors to rely less on each other and create distrust among one another would make the game more challenging and interesting. You could have unique mechanics like an ability to secretly sabotage generators whilst tricking survivors into thinking you're repairing it, thus coming over to assist, only to get bamboozled. Or maybe you could trick survivors into letting you heal them, only to trick them and apply mangled or broken or something like that. Of course it would take a lot of balancing and tweaking, but it would be awesome to see. But what do I know, I'm just some guy rambling in a comment section.

You don't have to make a What the Fog video.
I adore this character. He has a lot of complexities that once you figure them out makes you feel so powerful. Flight of the Damned is easy to dodge? Spawn it right on top of the survivors and watch it insta hit them. Survivors chaining windows? Use flight of the damned to quickly fly through or body block the next window. Survivor about to use the hand of vecna to teleport away? Cast a sphere right as they get in and watch them sit there completely flabbergasted. There’s just so many tricks to him and thanks to that and his versatile add ons, you can build him a variety of ways and still feel strong and fun.
the Hand and Eye aren't disabled by Dispelling Sphere. they're only disabled by being injured.

That would breed Identity V problem of killers being so heavily dependent on tier list that half of them are unplayable.
Perks carrying the game surprisingly allows for a diversity of the killers.
But it’s 1v4 and killers have powers where a survivor with no perks is just for gens

They’re either outclassed by better killers (Trapper is just worse hag, and Spirit is just a better wraith) or most maps go against their main gimmick (deathslinger). A good portion of killers are just not played, meanwhile the most shit faced killers are played

@@MissSimone02 I'm still laughing over the fact that they gave a crow theme to a killer who was born in the one place that doesn't have crows. Either they did that on purpose (to show the crows are unnatural), or that was the biggest blunder in their research.

Aren't the killer powers meant to be the quirky tools to use though? I mean I kind of get what you're talking about, Last perk gimmick killers got was the Hex perks and... I think I just answered your question.
Yes you are correct, but BHVR doing this reinforces one of the key complaints of the game. Survivors get fun, chill, casual perks. Meanwhile, killers get basic, sweaty, “play to win” perks. The reason for this tho is that killer perks need to be that or they are immediately not viable against 4 people. And so we fall into sweaty tunneling/camping killers. And semi-dumbshit casual survivors
@@dadrako1581 I guess I kind of get what you mean. We need more quirky perks that are shit on all but one or two killers, But on those killers results in something pretty fun.
Example: Insidious. Absolute F tier dogs**t on 99% on the killers, Unless you're The Unknown (And MAYBE Spirit), Then you can scare the shit out of them.
Problem there though is that the insidious example almost feels accidental. It's been sitting there, Wallowing in how everybody looks at it with distain for about 7-8 years, Until Unknown showed up and gave it a use. It feels like they wanted to do something quirky like you said, But quirky turned out to be useless.
It's a really difficult triangular balancing act between: Making it decent enough that you might want to use it/Making it quirky and unique/Not making certain killers it could be used on absolutely busted.

Flight of the dammed is great especially on maps with elevation. You can also insure a hit if you use it while they are vaulting or dropping a pallet.
Imo a mindflayer would've fit dbd better than vecna.

Oh. Stranger things makes this weird because I’m always thinking about the one from the show instead of D&D. But I still feel like that is a better fit because he’s an actual intelligent being. Not to mention he’s an interesting case because he’s the only killer who actually poses a threat to the entity.

Watsonian answer: The Survivors get goofy tools because the Entity is trying to give them a bit of hope so the Killers can crush it even harder.
Doylist answer: The Survivors get goofy tools as an attempt to decrease queue times by making people want to play Survivors.
I love Vecna personally I think he’s the jack of all trades type of killer that I adore similar to Nemesis.

Tbf there are 4 survivors and only one killer, That means in a game you gonna have 16 survivors perks against 4 killer perks, if survivors got strong perks all the time things would get out of hand very fast.
except Weave Attunement DOES work on some killer items. specifically Nemesis Vaccines and Wesker First Aid Sprays. in addition, Hoarder works on Vecnas chests and items too.
I just tried Weave Attunement on Wesker and didn't see any auras even when they pathed around dropped sprays. Maybe the oblivious effect still happens, but i don't think it works.

Like putting flammable on a gas can... everyone knows, but people will set themselves on fire and blame you if you don't put a warning for some reason 😂
I wished that for this chapter specifically, instead of gong on a 30/45/60 system, ALL the perks killer and survivor required you to roll a dice. I have no idea how you would balance that, but it would just give the character’s perks a note unique identity that hasn’t been felt in other chapters for years

well to be honest on the situation about the perks, every killer do get toys in a form of a new power and etc, while survivor are basically a reskin with some perks about him, so they do need these goofy tools to have some freshness about them because that's all they got (and items, but will they add new item in? Rhetorical question, of course not)
I have fallen off from dead by daylight, this is my first time actually seeing what hr is like. But tbh dbd is doing super well, Idk if that weird spinoff is any good, but with that and the dnd, castelvania, and the other spinoff coming soon, dbd fans are eating good

I mean I think its fair that survivors gets flashy perks. On the killer side it's maybe less creative but you get a whole new killer kit to play with while the survivor is basically just a skin on the same basekit for every characters

12:21 You open a gateway to the dark between the stars, a region infested with unknown horrors. A 20-foot-radius sphere of blackness and bitter cold appears, centered on a point within range and lasting for the duration. This void is filled with a cacophony of soft whispers and slurping noises that can be heard up to 30 feet away. No light, magical or otherwise, can illuminate the area, and creatures fully within the area are blinded.
The void creates a warp in the fabric of space, and the area is difficult terrain. Any creature that starts its turn in the area takes 2d6 cold damage. Any creature that ends its turn in the area must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 2d6 acid damage as milky, otherworldly tentacles rub against it.
Vecna is actually the most fun I've had with the game in ages. Flight of the Damned isn't meant to be guaranteed damage or it would be more difficult to use, it's guaranteed zoning. Survivors having to crouch to dodge it lets you get easy hits.
As a D&D player I was so hyped for this Chapter, then I saw it, and all that Hype went away, Vecna is just so dam underwhelming, at least for me, In D&D he has every Spell, at his disposal, and for this what do they give him Fly (Level 3 spell) & Mage hand, (a Cantrip, level 0 Spell), for none D&D players there are 9 levels of spells, and Vecna can use them all. and we get a Lv 0 & a Lv 3.
Tbf the dispelling sphere is essentially Anti Magic Field, so an 8th level spell
His own personal spell flight of the damned which based on its i think 60 foot cone is likely around 5th or 6th lvl
The mage hand in question is more similiar to arcane hand due to its capability to prevent such weight from dropping and lifting it, which mage hand couldnt, so 5th lvl again
I've been playing vecna so much, currently on a 60 streak with him too. He's unbelievably complex with a high skill ceiling. I agree with a lot of the points made, but honestly, you can only figure out vecna by playing vecna. First, his fly addons are absolutely useless. Speed potion will get you a hit 1/10 games.
His mage hand addons aren't great either, either a pallet is too good enough to beat mage hand, or it's not, the addons work about 2/10 games (also, telekinesis ring is his worst addon, a survivor with good ping can immediately drop a pallet after you lift it if you have it.)
Dispelling sphere addons are useless, same with flight of the damned.
Vecna's b&b is flight of the damned as a distance gainer, and hand to deny a pallet to get the hit. Also, flight if the damned can hit through walls, so if you chase at shack and the survivor goes around a wall, go closer to it and use the spell, unless the survivors expects it, you'll get a free hit. Never use flight of the damned from a distance, good survivors WILL crouch, only use it if it forces a medium vault or gets an insta hit
His best addons are spell ring and power pearl, they make his spells much stronger by reducing the cooldown by a lot. His other good addons are robe of eyes and bag of holding. Robe, if you spam spells with pearl, gives you constant info across the map, and bag denies the survivors from using all 7 chests, also giving some info.
His best perks are m1 killer perks like spirit fury/enduring, coup, rapid, save, monitor, and undetectable perks.
As someone in deep with DnD lore, I gotta say, the entity has upped its' fucking game significantly if it has VECNA of all people.
Strahd would be one thing, Szass Tam another, but Vecna is in a league of his own.

The rational explanation for the difference between Survivor v Killer perks is because you can give Survivors a guitar and every single one of them can use it the exact same way, but if you give Killers a perk, you have to think about how the different ones will use it
Think about Starstruck, where on some killers it was completely useless and then you could stick it on Nurse and just win. And that's a pretty reasonable situation still, but ultimately as the game gets bigger and things get more complicated it's just easier to design Killer perks that are strong-but-not-silly, because if you gave Killer some kind of like...Plot Twist-style perk, it'd be funny, until someone found out that if you use it on Wesker or something the game becomes unwinnable

Vecna isn't too out there for DBD but they really should have used Strahd instead. He's literally a D&D horror villain locked in an alternate plane of existence being tormented by dark entities.

Wish we got a cool charm or something for that. I do miss the cool masks they had in that game for cosmetics, some of them were sweet.
Survivor Perks can get fancy because Survivors all function the same at the root of it. Killers all have different Powers and Character bodies/animations, with different visuals and audio cues, so I guess it's hard to make Killer Perks that function across the board.
I find it funny how you like the unknown and hate vecna, because I was the total opposite. When I saw the unknown I was excited for some neat trickshots by bouncing things off the walls, and stuff like that. instead I got dredge wanna be dropping shadow clones like a horse leaves deuces. Meanwhile vecna is the handyman. He may not have the best tool for ANY job. But the tools he has WILL serve a purpose in a match. Compared to most other 'generalist' killers in dbd, he doesn't feel weaker for his diversity in his abilities, he just feels more prepared and better for it. Some killers are the sledgehammer, brute forcing a win with the one tool they have, while vecna is a carefully crafted and meticulously cared for swiss army knife. He doesn't NEED the best tool for any given situation, because his tools are good enough to serve the purpose they actually need to serve. (compare this to dredge, who's teleport is at best map reliant making it a terrible mobility tool and his remnant functions as trapper placing his power at a loop only for it to get disarmed 5 seconds after he and the survivor leaves and has a long cooldown unless you have nightfall active). Overall, great video- even if I don't fully agree with some of what you said (namely the part where his vault perk is only good with other perks like it).
The funniest thing first game I played with Vecina I used only his perks with the add-on that increases spell charge speed and the one that makes using the hand make you go faster

It reminded me the first time I played dredge
I used no perks with dredge though
The first game I played with I used only the add-ons that increase how fast nightfall happens when people are wounded and made it show you jump out of locker faster
And I killed everybody I was on them before anyone could figure out what was going on
This was not during the times the killer was really there
I played the killer during a time that was not the newest
And I absolutely wiped the people out
And at the end of the game, they asked no perks your kidding me
All I did was say this is my first game with this killer
I also ambushed a person when they jumped into shack on the chapel map

Person jumped into the window of shack and at that moment, I teleported the locker and came out swinging they were already wounded, but
It was hilarious at the end of the game. They said that was the biggest jump scare ever.
And we had a laugh about it

I pretty quickly found myself comparing Vecna to Medjay from For Honor; a character with two distinct movesets, which would theoretically give him much more depth and a steeper learning curve than most of the other fighters, if it weren't for the fact that both movesets are incredibly basic and feel like watered down versions of fighters that already exist in the game.
Vecna has four powers, which is much more than the usual one or two that every other killer has, and while it's not right to expect each one to be almost as nuanced as a proper power, most of them feel too watered down. This was touched on in the video, but from what I played of him on the PTB, it didn't really feel like there was more than one, _maybe_ two types of situations that most of the powers were useful in, which disappointingly made such a seemingly complex killer actually end up feeling pretty easy.
-then again, Singularity is my highest prestige killer so what do I know about easy killers--
The crow perk does have counterplay, it's called "Calm spirit being another fuck you to some killers and useless otherwise"
Unless you run directly through the crow, you can't disturb them which screws languid touch and spies from the shadows, and one of these definitely didn't need the screw you
I don't think killers need perks like survivors get. There kit/add-ons make up for the fact they don't have goofy perks. Because unlike killer survivors don't have anything unique to each one there just skins.

Im really scared the devs are going to get intimidated and make two changes.. they're going to nerf mage hand.. and they're going to nerf flight of the damneds instant injury proc. For example, if you summon the skellys ontop of someone, they won't damage them until they start moving forward or something.. and vecnas gonna drop off into the abyss.

I’ve been on a break from dbd since vecna and don’t see a reason to return honestly. Maybe when castlevania comes out but all the matches have been the same lately and I’ve been having more fun on TCM anyways.
