Those are great lenses indeed. 3 other favorites of mine are: - MD 75-150/4 (best zoom I’ve ever used) - MD 35/2.8 (insanely sharp stopped down) - MC/MD (5/5 formula) 100mm f/2.5 (one of the best bokeh lenses around) - Rokkor-PF 55/2 (incredibly well rounded lens, great colors, great build quality, great bokeh, great sharpness)
Nice video. I did “machine” photography for local factories and I quickly discovered the true perspective 20mm Rokkor 2.8 (I even used a vivitar 17 mm on occasion) to capture huge machinery the factory managers were so proud of And wished to file with the owners. I relied on the 58mm f1.2 (the one just preceding your rubber focus ring model) for pet portraits , And then i discovered the 100mm f2.5 ! Such a great detail piece. My XE 7 shot thousands of “work” and motorcycle trip negatives and transparencies . Great memories all! Thanks😊 Robin
Nice video and collection, my fav in your collection is the 24mm. My fav in my collection is the 85mm f2. Tiny but sharp. I find that the 50 1.4 Mc is quite soft, I never enjoy taking pictures with it...😊
Excellent video Zachary!! A really wonderful Minolta MD/MC Collection, A real inspiration to start mine. I will like to ask you which of your Minolta electronic camera has been more reliable, I'm in the process of getting a body to test the lenses. Thanks for the video.
I enjoyed the video but was surprised that you didn't state in your last lens that you didn't go in detail about the many version of the Minolta 58mm 1.4, ranging from the the MC 1, MC 2, AR C and AR 2? Have any expert opinions?
Minolta colors, aah… i only realized what it means since i started shooting 35mm film. I started collecting mdIII lenses with yellow feet scale. 28mm f2 has to be my favourite at the time. Also have the 35-70mm macro zoom.
Managed to purchase a few Rokkor lenses in a bulk lot. Beautiful lenses. I have 28mm f3.5, 50mm f1.4, 50mm f1.7, 58mm f1.4, 85mm f1.7, and 135mm f2.8. Did also include a 16mm fish-eye but I on-sold that as I wasn't enamored by the look.
I have an X570 and I vaguely remember a few lenses available that had built in autofocus capability for use with non-af MD mount cameras. Am I dreaming or did such a thing exist?
I recommend replacing the Vivitar 28mm f2.5 with a Minolta 28mm f2.8, which are fairly common and of much higher quality than the Vivitar. You should be able to find a nice copy for under $50.
Your video is so helpful for a beginner with Minolta like me. I’m looking for a wide-angle lens to shoot landscape, should I go with: 1. 35-70mm f3.5 or 2. 28mm f2.8 I personally think I should go with the 35-70, but my friend said that the zoom lens usually doesn’t have a big aperture, which is a down point, and it’s heavy too. My lens now is a 58mm f1.4, and I love it, but I don’t think it's suitable for wide-angle shooting.
If anyone wants to try a 135mm but dont want to shell out $100, the MD Celtic 135mm is a really great choice too. The aperture ring and focus finger-grips are plastic and rubber, but everything else is metal, even the built-in lens shade. For a supposed "economy" version they are very well build, focusing is as smooth as any other MD non-Celtic lens. All for $35-$45.
This lens has been created during cooperation with Leica. Absolutely the same lens with differend bayonet made by Minolta, called Vario-Elmar, cost ten time more then MD.
Can’t believe you got rid of the 58. Sure the 50 is sharper but the 58 has this character to it that makes it and the 50 not comparable. The color reproduction is different. The bokeh is different. Besides both being “fast 50s” they’re very different otherwise
I agree, the 58 mm 1.2 rendered the same scene with that extra punch, maybe ’bigger than life’ but ‘not in your face’. Really liked the way you could throw the background out of focus. 😉
Those are great lenses indeed.

- MD 35/2.8 (insanely sharp stopped down)

- Rokkor-PF 55/2 (incredibly well rounded lens, great colors, great build quality, great bokeh, great sharpness)
I can vouch for the 100 2.5. quite possibly the finest Rokkor I ever used.

So glad I found your channel. It's hard to find Minolta shooters on youtube, so I'm very happy to find yourself.
you didn't size the 35mm f / 2.8. which I find is the clearest lens that Minolta has made.
The older MC Rokkor 50mm f1.4 looks a fair bit longer than this MD Rokkor X. And the 35-70 Macro looks awesome, would love to get one.

Some example shots of each lens would have made this video even more interesting.....
I god my hands on an MD Macro Rokkor 50mm F3.5. Quite a good lens with great colors and sharpness !

how much was the whole lot?
@@invisiblespark purchased for $300aud. Sold fisheye for $270.
Damn great move.@@stephenreynolds6414
XD11 with the 45 f/2 is a great street photography set. Great lens, quiet shutter. High stealth.
Also just picked up a 50mm 1.4, looking forward to testing it out
The Minolta 24mm F2.8 Is one of the best in class. Great for astrophotography as is the 28mm F2 Nikkor.

I believe all the Minolta 28mm lineup contain thorium and are radioactive. Some people don’t like dealing with that
Where do you buy these from?
Great collection and nice to see. Wherry did you fond the XK? Also a great camera!

Nice collection you need the 75-150 f4 it's minolta's best zoom lens
That’s a beautiful XD11 body. I regret selling mine… Cool video!

The 2.8. Stopped down a bit the lens is crazy sharp.
I have the RF Rokkor-X 250mm in mint condition with original case for sell right now!!!
Xd 11 with tah lens is so pretty
It looks like or similar to the same optical design as my Pentax A 35-70mm. meaning it's probably a very nice zoom.
This lens has been created during cooperation with Leica. Absolutely the same lens with differend bayonet made by Minolta, called Vario-Elmar, cost ten time more then MD.
Minolta MD Rokkor X 50-135 f3.5 .. 💖
That 24mm f2.8 you have there shouldn't be slept on. Has a floating element in it that makes it very sought after...
You didn't say much about their excellent cameras!

It’s crazy that I found these type of lenses at my house and have no idea how they got here lol. No idea the value or nothing 😂
