I even bought another tension monitor after following the instructions on the Liftmaster video when I did not need it. You are this week’s Hero 🦸♂️ in our house 🏡. Keep making great videos. Cheers
I have the same set up. Came home at 4 in the morning to it going crazy and opening and shutting non stop by itself. Shut down power. Getting nothing the next day. No response, no light. Bad circuitboard?
@@thenjtI still haven’t fixed mine. Liftmaster sent me a free touchpad when I called them and said there was a recall on mine and it could be the problem. I half way hooked it up and might not have followed the steps exactly but it didn’t help. If I restore power to my door it will still randomly start going up and down on its own. I’m still thinking circuitboard. Let me know if you pinpoint your problem before I do.
Hello- thanks for this. My system has one problem. I used to be able to press the button and the door would close automatically. No I need to hold my finger on the button until it closes completely. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I have a 8500 and the door isn’t even is this why my alarm keeps going off? The alarm won’t stop, but it is -45 degrees here and I’m waiting for it to warm up so I can fix it. Any suggestions on how to get the cables back on track properly?
There is no power getting to my control panel. The AC that my opener is plugged into is good. Does the opener have a fuse which may have blown? It's a Model 3800PLD LiftMaster Elite Series.
I had a garage remote stolen out of my car. I have the Liftmaster 8500. How can I wipe out the previous code for the stolen remote and program new ones?
One thing that no one tells you even the instructions is that the switch needs to be in tension with the wire. It is supposed to be pulled up and not flush with the mechanism. When it is installed, you should be able to push it down and hear a click. That way, it is always under tension and garage door doesn't roll back up automatically. It was so annoying troubleshooting that one step. Hope it helps.
I own the 8500 too and you’re right, it’s been quite a ride over the years. I did add new springs last year. Every once in a while we have intermittent beeping and the MyQ garage pads aren’t flashing or beeping when I look...that’s happened in the past, though today all I hear is three quick beeps and don’t know what the heck is causing it. Both our garage doors open and close just fine.
How involved or costly was replacing the springs? My installer indicated the 8500 had to be removed from the wall in order to replace the torsion spring + rod + brackets/bearings. I had the tension wire come off one of the pulleys near the motor unit. Wayne Daulton door.
@@sscheuri The operator can remain set and the torsion bar typically can be slid out of the operator, since there should be a small bracket attaching the lower end of the operator to the wall. I wouldn’t expect a typical WDalton installer to know that or to assume any liability with a jackshaft operator though. A knowledgeable installer could easily replace the torsion springs on a 8500 or 8900 setup, though, if there is enough room for the torsion bar to slide 12-24” away from the operator. Cable derailment can happen easily with jackshaft operators if there is not sufficient downward weight placed on the cables when the door is fully opened. Consider inclining your tracks higher so the door itself will roll downward without any spring tension applied. If the door won’t keep tension on the cables, they can easily derail when the operator starts turning the bar. Also instruct your installer to wind the springs a tad more than specs call, to ensure the cables are always taut even when the door is fully open.
I have a quick question for you, I have an 8500 LiftMaster on my garage wall. My question is my red light and my yellow light are flashing on my wall remote. They keep flashing what do I do to fix this my garage door will not open? Thanks for your time hope to get your response back to this issue thank you
Hello, this question is for Garage Door Man 82. I am installing a Liftmaster 8500. I am trying to bypass the cable tension monitor. I noticed you bridged the connection with what looks like a capacitor. Can you explain to me what I could do to eliminate device. I rather leave it out of my install. I want the opener to continue to work without a problem. Please let me know how you were able to accomplish this. Thanks.
The cable tension sensor is very important to ensure that the motor won’t continue turning if the cables get loose and derail from the drums. If that happens you can have a very serious condition to deal with that requires the door safely coming down (without spring tension any longer). These jackshaft operators function best when the drum bracket is attached to the track about 1” from the wall. Typically this bar bracket has an upper bend that installers screw to the wall. Don’t screw it to the wall. Rather, attach it to the top track further out about 1/2 - 1”, with two 3/8” bolts to secure it to the top track. This then places the cable far enough out that the cable tension sensor no longer becomes an issue, because it is much further open even at times when the cable normally slacks as the panels round the track radius when closing. You can make this adjustment by removing the bracket bolts that fix the torsion bar bracket to the top track, and simply move it out from the wall an inch. This would be the bracket that is right above the sensor. While you could do this even when the springs are under tension, I recommend opening the door fully then adjusting the bracket while the springs are not loaded, just to add safety. After you do this you will never have a cable sensor problem again.
Ok Mr Garage Man 82 I have the 8500- I have tested everything at the drive motor panel, I was able to move the door up and down etc. Sensors are aligned, LEDs are on & have power etc. My wall mounted button "MyQ" style like yours in the video does NOT have power / yellow light doesn't come. Is it possible or is it common that those wall mount mother boards go bad?. I followed the wires and didn't see any breaks. pulled on wires on front of drive motor but didn't have time to get on up into the back area where the wires seem to go, will check that after work. All remotes have good batteries, they show led flashing when pushed and obviously don't work either. The garage door lights come on and I don't get any flashing errors. any suggestions? Great video, thanks for the help!
Yes the walk button assembly does go bad. It cost us about $70 to have a new one sent, back then from Liftmaster. The Liftmaster rep actually told me that the wall button assembly was where the brains of the system is too.
@@ryanduderty3963 Sorry I didn't see your post/ question.... I can't remember what I did but, I did not replace it. I think the problem was our area had an excessive amount of high heat days and it played a factor in the problem. I kept trying different things but to no avail.... then one day it started working again ( about a weeks time). I haven't had a problem since.
How do you know that your door “is not balanced?” This typically refers to the amount of tension that the springs have been wound to. How does tour door operate when the operator rip chord has been pulled? Does the door go up and down as expected?
I have the door opener. Powered went out recently so I pulled the lever to put it in manual mode. Once we got powere I pulled the rope again and it now acts like it doesn't have power. Sensor lights are on and the wall door opener light is on. When I push the opener the motor makes no sound. Any ideas?
Shot in the dark here, my liftmaster won't open. It tries to shut the doors when they are already closed. I called a service person and they said they will have to replace the whole opener system. Is there any way to repair these openers or is replacing them the only way? Please and thanks. Great video.
My opener is doing the same thing, i tried setting the limits a few times and it keeps "losing" the limits...called support and they suggested the travel module was bad. just got one on order...$20+shipping. This is the first problem i have had with this opener in 9 years. Very happy with my 3800
Try resetting the open and close limits at 5’ up and 3’ up. Then test and see if the operator still behaves the same. Release the motor, open the door. Engage the motor again. Set new limits at 5’ opened and 3’ high (closed). If it works as expected then set new limits as desired.
I just installed this opener, my problem is when I program the limits it goes up fine but when it goes to the closed position it slacks the cable almost immediately after it start and trips the cable tension monitor
i have the same problem. i am returning mine as defective and getting a different unit. i dont think the manual is giving the correct directions. the video on you tube is different.
This problem is likely because your drum cables on the door are not sharing the load of the door equally. Since the 8500 series turns the torsion bar instead of pushing the door up and down, the cable sensor has to be very sensitive for safety. If one cable is more slack than the other, the sensor will pick up that discrepancy immediately. The springs should be unwound and rewound again. This is not something you can just move forward on without preparing for it correctly. Those springs are very powerful so a typical homeowner should not attempt to do it, for safety reasons. Not only must the springs be unwound but the drums must be fastened to the torsion bar in a different spot, and this is where the problem is originating. Once the drums are fastened properly and with the same grip on the torsion bar then the springs can be wound again, and the operator will work perfectly.
As soon as I saw the safeties taped together, you lost me. If someone gets hurt from your door and the investigation shows you didn’t install correctly, you are going to lose your house
