Sorry for discovering this cover after quite a few years this video is posted... But your voice is amazing!!! I want to sing with you so bad but I sound like a dying duck all the time...
Thank you! That's very nice of you. Don't worry! I used to sound like a seriously distressed penguin myself. But I took lessons and learned how to sing. You just have to work at it and you'll be fine.
I was looking for a Phantom Duet and found one but it was verging on poor. So I carried on searching and discovered yours and it's wonderful. I am working hard on the Aahs and sometimes it comes through better than others. I am having voice training with a superb site via the Internet (since mid July this year) as I have always loved singing but wanted to learn to breathe properly which I didn't know how to do before. I have worked on eliminating voice breaks through this. So all this has helped tremendously with singing musical theatre. I am Mezzo but through the training my range has extended in both head and chest voices. So, I am here to thank you so much for your video. I have now duetted Phantom with you (!!) and also All I Ask of You. I have subscribed to your channel so I am on the lookout for more great videos. Again, many many thanks. Kind regards.
Thank you Diane! It warms my heart to hear I could help in any way. Singing is a process of eternal learning, that's one of the reasons I love it so much; you're never fully trained; you can always imrove. I have several duets from other musicals on my channel. Check them out! I'm sure you'll find some that you like. Since you like the Phantom, perhaps you'd like to try "Beneath a Moonless Sky". Also, if you've recorded something, I'd be interested to hear it. Keep up the good work and remember: your voices sits upon your "appogio"; keep it firm! Cheers!
Many thanks for your prompt reply Peter. You are so right about eternal learning - I just love the WHOLE singing aspect. Am I right in thinking that "appogio" is the control of breathing, and holding your larynx in the right position? If I have got that wrong, perhaps you could correct me please. I was also interested in coloratura but that would be out of my scope as a Mezzo. One thing that puzzles me, I know tessitura is the comfortable range in which one sings, but it's almost as if I have two comfortable ranges, being in the lower voice (not terrifically low though I must say) but also in my lower head voice if that all makes sense. I know tessitura also refers to voice richness but I think that (together with my enunciation) has developed through all the training, which I do in every morning and then go into the singing later on. Of course, I have other jobs I must do in a day too (mundane, I'm afraid - but hey, that's life). I WILL check through the other duets and am interested to look at the one you suggest above. I think I am obsessed with musical theatre (good thing or bad!). I found a duet a while ago for A Little Fall of Rain which I enjoy singing very much because as you will know, the song calls for a certain emotion. I go into my own world when I sing. I've recently started singing "Nothing", the wonderful and comical Chorus Line song. I couldn't get the tune the first time, but I listened to Lea Salonga sing it, and it was a lot easier. I like that song because of the spoken word as well, and of course it HAS to be acted out to make any sort of impression. I have also looked for a duet for Could We Start Again Please, so if you haven't produced one already, or if I haven't found it yet (?) I would be so grateful if you could. Peter, I could go on and on, I just love writing to people like yourself who have the same fondness for music and singing. My apologies for having taken up a lot of your valuable time. Bye for now. Kind regards.
Peter, sorry to write again so soon. About the recording of oneself, if I sang something worth sending for you to listen, then I certainly would, but I have no special equipment to do that, and even if there was a way to it on the computer, I don't know whether I would be able to do it unless it was very simple. Perhaps I'll find some instruction under "Recording for Dummies" or some such thing. !!!!!!
No worries Diane! If I don't have the time to answer, I don't so... I do! What I mean by appogio is the tension of lower abdominal muscles that form the support (support is actually what the word means) for the pressure your diafragm has to keep up, pushing at your lungs. If you don't get the support/appogio right it very difficult to maintain notes cleanly and especially so in the upper range. The other thing you mention about your two tessituras is probably due to not having been able to bridge your "passagio" yet. Everyone has their own blocks to stumble on there, but generally it's about connecting your chest voice with your head voice in a way that there is no perceptible change in timbre. For a soprano it's usually quite impossible to bridge their passagio completely so that you hear no change in timbre from low to high. Tenors and baritones can usually manage it more or less well with time (except for the falsetto range of course).
Usually people just record on their phones. If you want me to include you in a mix, you should record wearing headphones so that it's just your voice being recorded.
Hey Peter, I Really Enjoyed Singing This Song With You Dude. Even Though On The Last Really Really High Note I Didn’t Sing It Because I Didn’t Want To Damage My Voice. Hope You Don’t Mind
Thank you! I don't mind at all. Not everyone can hit an E6, especially if you're not a soprano. Even among those who can hit it, few can make it sound good.
Hey everybody! I just want you to know that I have a Soundcloud channel with lots of stuff I don't publish on RUclips. Here it is: soundcloud.com/peter-eksell .Check it out! :)
Heya there! If I got it right seems to me you like italian xD I am working on Final lair as I told you and it's almost ready. Would you like to sing the title song in italian with me?😄
Sure! why not? I don't really have a language preference; I'll sing in any language as long as I like the song. I'll record a new version in Italian as soon as I have the time and then, if you like you can sing to that version, or record your vocals separately and send to me for a new mix.
Peter Eksell i think the best onstrumental of the short version (cuz sadly we have just this in italian) is this ruclips.net/video/4WsM9rkiMCM/видео.html You probably have this already xD
Thank you for the video! I used it to record a duet cover. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/ffphOUe-A6g/видео.html That ending is really high, but I did my best. I was gonna go for that last note, but just couldn't quite reach it lol. Thanks again :)
Just hit high E
!!!!
Even though I don't hit the high notes at the end (at the moment I only get to C6 but I'm working on that) it's so much fun to Duett with you!
Thank you! I'm happy you like it. Just keep working on it and eventually you'll succeed!
( Tim )
In sleep he sang to me, in dreams he came
That voice which calls to me
And speaks my name
And do I dream again? For now I find
The phantom of the opera is there
Inside my mind
( The Phantom Of the Opera: Peter Eksell )
Sing once again with me our strange duet
My power over you grows stronger yet
And though you turn from me to glance behind
The phantom of the opera is there
Inside your mind
( Tim )
Those who have seen your face
Draw back in fear
I am the mask you wear
( The Phantom Of the Opera: Peter Eksell )
It's me they hear
( Tim And The Phantom Of the Opera: Peter Eksell )
Your/My spirit and My/Your voice in one combined
The phantom of the opera is there
Inside my/your mind
[Voices:]
He's there the phantom of the opera
Beware the phantom of the opera
( The Phantom Of the Opera: Peter Eksell )
In all your fantasies, you always knew
That man and mystery
( Tim )
Were both in you
( Tim And The Phantom Of the Opera: Peter Eksell )
And in this labyrinth where night is blind
The Phantom of the opera is here/there
Inside my/your mind
( The Phantom Of the Opera: Peter Eksell )
Sing for me, my angel of music
I love playing the clarinet with this video, thank you so much for uploading!
Cool! A bit unexpected but I'm glad you liked it.

Thank you for the video! I used it to record a duet cover. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/ffphOUe-A6g/видео.html
That ending is really high, but I did my best. I was gonna go for that last note, but just couldn't quite reach it lol. Thanks again :)
Great version! It's ok that you can't reach a soprano E. You sound more like a natural alto. Keep up the good work
You have a great voice I really had a lot of fun duetting with you. would it be okay if I used this cover on soundclowd?
