I'm really impressed that Google and Mojang collaborated to make this. I mean, both of these companies are not really engaged in doing small things like that and all of the sudden, we get this.
Especially Google, they haven't added any Doodles in a long time

Google did a special thing for the eclipse. When you searched for eclipse 2024 there was an animation with the sun covered by the moon and it made your whole screen darken. If you do it at night with the lights off on a large screen the effect is even better. It still works now.

Google did something back in February/March for the release of the FF7:Rebirth game. So they seem to be adding easter eggs often enough.

I love when RUclipsrs share all sorts of neat easter eggs that people without much social media wouldn’t normally know about. Makes a great party trick when you record yourself playing Minecraft: Google then send it to your friends. Seeing their shocked expressions and excitement brings you a feeling of power.
Phoenix last time you looked up Minecraft on Google for a video it was something _no one_ wanted to see… I’m not sure I wanna follow this time.

I’ll say it again, I’m like 100% sure that the “new” piston sound is just the old sound with a low-pass filter.
No, if you have a way to apply a low-pass filter to it, try it! It removes all the high frequencies of the sound, but the new sound has a lot of high frequencies in it, the most distinct ones are in the 'click'.
there should be a separate crafting recipe, maybe with wool, to make a silent piston.
Or if you wax a redstone component.

Honestly what would make everyone happy is make it so pistons have the original sound, but have another piston with a slightly different recipe called the muted piston with the new sound

Google Sand block isn't affected by gravity. Also there's slight 3D-ish effect on blocks as you scroll past them. Apart from that, it's a cool easter egg!

I love it when Google does these things with random video game franchises. I believe they also made a Katamari-themed Easter egg to promote the We Love Katamari remaster last year, if I'm not mistaken.
What happens is when googling Minecraft a dirt block wil appear click on it and you have Steve's hands and click on the screen you will start mining it then get sent to the Minecraft world then you can mine the blocks if you click the x a creeper will walk up to you and explode sending you to normal google

honestly i feel like they could satisfy the people who want the old piston sound by simply making pistons waxable. just use a honeycomb on a piston, and boom, you get the quiet sound
I have fixed the piston sounds I made a resourcepack that changes the sound of the piston back to what it originally was.
I haven't uploaded it yet cause I'm waiting to see if Mojang reverts the sound change. Probably not, but I'll upload it when 1.21 officially comes out and the piston sound hasn't changed back.

Mistakes and inconsistencies I found on the google minecraft thing:
(Please note these are things I found myself and observed after playing a few sessions, I also know I might have missed things or got things wrong)
Gameplay:
1. wool has the stone breaking sound
2. There are no birch leaves
3. Gravity based blocks (and blocks that cant be supported) dont have gravity
4. The desert background scene is not a desert, but rather a beach (indicated by no cactus or dead bush and 1 turtle)
5. The desert temple has orange concrete instead of terracotta
6. Soul sand valleys spawn with netherwart
7. Soul sand uses grass block breaking sound
8. Netherwart uses stone breaking sound
9. Copper not generating even though visible in one background
10. Deepslate redstone not generating even though visible as well
11. Deepslate emeralds are way too common
12. a few of the overworld background scenes dont seem to have any lighting or shadows
13. Nether and possibly end scenes have smooth lighting on while overworld cave ones dont (or at least it looks that way to me)
14. On rare occasions the game can glitch causing everything to become blurry
15. Wooden planks can give you a wooden pickaxe
Textures:
1. oak leaves uses old texture while background ones use the new one
2. Same but with grass being neon green side texture
3. Cut sandstone and chiseled sandstone bottom textures not correct (sharing the sandstone one)
4. Even though glass is see through, it deletes side textures of blocks around it
5. Paintings are a block
6. Crafting table bottom texture is same as top
7. Deepslate texture rotated sideways (noticeable when placed next to deepslate ores)
8. Glass is partially tinted blue
9. On rare occasions, packed ice looks particularly broken already even though naturally placed

Wait that’s new? I looked up Minecraft yesterday and assumed I was just out of the loop
I actually did this before the video came out, and I was like “SINCE WHEN DID GOOGLE HAVE THIS” I was at school during this time, and the teachers let us use the computers. I was gonna go on “cool math games” but before that I always check for anything new on Minecraft so when I typed “Minecraft” this grass block popped up, and it gave me a Minecraft hand.
I propose that they keep the piston as it is right now, and instead of changing the sound of the piston to the current proposed one, they just implement the fishton, giving it the new sound instead. That way everyone will be happy. People who want the old sound to stay get to keep it and those that think it is too loud or annoying can use the fishton instead

This is an amazing and surprisingly detailed little browser Easter Egg. I'm surprised PhoenixSC even started to critique it - I mean it's not something you expect to be completely accurate or compare to the actual game, because the point is that it's a fun surprise to start mining things with a pickaxe on the Google homepage. And all the little details like upgrading your pickaxe or going down the y axis show that they really did put care into making it.

If instead of changing the sound of the pistons, they just added something like a copper piston and changed sound of that I feel like everyone would be super happy.
They should’ve just made fishing drop fish oil occasionally and you could use the oil on your piston to make it quiet
