This movie is fahqed girl! Glad u made it all the way through! Kekek Kek = Lol It's a World Of Warcraft thing!
Yes, this movie will not help you if you have trust issues.
This is the first review I've seen on your channel, and it is my favorite horror movie.
I'll pass on your Lonelyfans, but I do enjoy watching people see great movies for the first time, so I'm going to subscribe and see what other movies you choose to see.
Great reactions! ❤
I've watched this movie dozens of times, and seeing people's reaction the first time the dog is revealed to be "the thing" never fails to entertain and amuse me. The shock, horror and trauma reflected on their faces always manage to brighten my day. Thank you, Magy! ☀😁
The way you express that makes you sound kind of sadistic. 😏
there was only 2 reactors, Centane and one i cant remember, Centane is Norwegian, so she knew when the pilot spoke
Same!😅
@mermaidprincess69 I like the screamers and the two guys are so scared and grossed out that they can't figure out what to do with their arms.😅
They always love that dog at the start of the movie. 🤣
All carpenter movies should be watched! Specially Assault on precinct 13, escape from New York, escape from LA, Starman, Big Trouble in little CHINA, they Live, The Fog, Eyes of Laura Mars, Prince of Darkness, and others. Carpenter resented Spielberg for ET AND it took all the money and awards. But Carpenter had the last laugh! Because this movie is much better! Carpenter made his own alien love story with Starman! Carpenter also is the master of the minimalist creepy theme music! Kurt did 4 movies with carpenter! He even did an early TV Elvis movie, for John! This is one of the 3 most important sci-fi movies ever made. Plus Alien and Bladerunner, which are all related, by actors, and some other technicalities. Also the brilliance here is, when the thing busts out, it comes out of u anywhere, any size, shape, etc. The dog trainer should have won an Oscar and the special effects guy should have won an Oscar! He was a twenty one year old college student!😮😮😮. Pro tip, carpenter is still thinking about a sequel! But there's still a massive tie in here with Alien, predator Bladerunner this , and a movie with Kurt Russell called, Soldier! They are related by the beings called Engineers, for Aliens, Terminator, predator, Bladerunner this, and a movie with Kurt Russell movie called, Soldier. Common companies, technology, Replicants, synthetic humans, beings that Engineers created, and even writers and producers!
And this is why, prosthetic, robotics, special/ effects, practical effects, are way better than CGI! The three main corporations... Cyberdyne (Terminator) Weyland Corp (alien) and Tyrell Corp (Bladerunner) all did cross work for each other, and also shared some employees!😮
Kurt better have kept the hat!
Also the total brilliance here is, once u have been infected, even from just a scratch, u have no idea when u are being taken over! One of the absolute must watch Carpenter films u must watch! Along with Starman, escape from New York, escape from LA, Big Trouble in little CHINA, assault on precinct 13. Go with those, and his Halloween stuff, Eyes of Laura Mars, They Live, The Fog, Christine, In the mouth of madness, prince of darkness, memoirs of an invisible man, vampires! There are critics who say this is Carpenter's version of Communism Socialism, etc , and how it takes over countries, much as a film in the 50s by the same name, i think...
The guy who played Blair, Wilford Brimley, was an actual tough guy. He was a marine, a bodyguard and a horse wrangler/ranch hand (so basically a cowboy) before he became an actor. Because of his past, he was legitimately strong as an ox so that scene with Blair going crazy in the radio room would have been pretty scary for the other actors.
Also, since he'd been a ranch hand in the past, Brimley had experience with skinning animals, which meant that everyone else was grossed out by the autopsy scenes but Brimley didn't have a problem with them at all.
He was great in "The Firm" as "head of firm security". Maybe the most intimidating character in that movie.
nice.
Blair did hold his own for a while against the guys.
It looked like autopsying that "dog" grossed Brimley out pretty thoroughly. Of course it would have grossed out almost anyone.
It's said that in order to appear grossed out, he pretended to be handling his own laundry. That's so hilarious, if true.
By all accounts, it was said he was a good guy as well.
Blair was actually a hero if you think about it. He made sure they couldn't contact the outside world and then infect the rest of the world.
But no contact will eventually cause suspicion, and make people want to find out what happened to them.
@@shawbros Yes but the hope was: until then everyone is dead, including the thing. That was also the hope and strategy of the norwegian scientists,.. thats why they even did suicide. If everyone is dead, including the thing, its out of danger that outside world gets curious and just finds a lot of dead people and things.
Unfortunately it can be construed both ways, either he didn't want the Thing escaping in someone, or he wanted to make sure he had the situation under control before attempting to get out. The fact that he was making something leads me to believe it's the latter, because once they discovered there was some kind of infectious disease no one would have been allowed to take the chopper anyway, destroying it on the other hand only makes sense if you can definitely still get out another way.
@@Tekkarath
He attempted to kill himself when he realized he was infected but it did not work and The Thing took over, this is why there is that big rope in his room at the middle of the film, pay attention.
@Tekkarath unfortunately? That's why the writing is so brilliant, there is good reason to believe he's human and good reason to believe he's a thing, this is especially true during the ending where either survivors could very possibly be a thing
The Norwegian base camp scenes were shot last. They used the American base camp after they blew everything up to film those scenes. The DVD has a great commentary track with Kurt Russel and John Carpenter and they tell a lot of funny behind the scenes stories.
40 years later and this film is still riveting people to the screen in horror and wonderment.
Not so much "is still" as "is now" since it was a box office failure and critically panned on its release. It wasn't really until it got rediscovered in the 90s in video stores and word spread on the early internet that people started appreciating it.
Interesting Fact: Norris (the guy who’s chest bursts open, chopping off the doctor’s hands with its bear-trap teeth) had a bad heart, and when the Thing took him over and perfectly imitated him, it also faithfully recreated his heart defect, which eventually caused Norris to suffer a heart attack for real during a high-stress moment. The Thing would have been happy to hide itself in a presumably “dead” body, but it couldn’t tolerate the electro-shocks from the defibrillator and was thus forced to reveal itself.
I also wonder if Norris had a pacemaker or something and the Thing didnt understand its purpose until too late lol
Is that a 'fact', though?
I've read that theory from several people, but I can't remember any lines from the movie asserting Norris's heart problem, or anything about it from anyone connected with the movie. I do have to point out that Norris rappelled down the side of the pit where the alien ship was with MacReady, and presumably back up again. Not something you'd expect from a man with a bad heart. I'm more inclined to think Norris's collapse was due to the advancing Thing subverting his body from within. He'd been wincing with pain before he collapsed. As for the Thing recreating Norris's "heart defect," it often exceeded the physical capacities of the form it wore, so I don't think we can assume it was limited to their frailties.
@@danieldickson8591 Norris is confirmed to be patient 0 (the guy who has his shadow on the door and is assimilated at the beginning of the movie by the dog Thing), therefore this theory that you are talking about (the Thing slowly taking him over in those scenes just before he passes out) has been proven wrong a long time ago. Since he had already long been assimilated by this point, there was no reason for him to pretend to feel pain, therefore he DOES indeed have the frailties of the host because the Thing copies him perfectly. The Thing never exceeds the capabilities of the forms it wears, it transforms out of its imitation into other horrific imitations to get specific tasks done. But while it’s pretending to be someone else, it is very limited on what it can do. And as for Norris climbing down to the spaceship at the beginning, that was just the beginning of his heart taking a turn for the worse. The intense scenes right before he passes out are just the icing on the cake that are added to the intense climb he made near the beginning of the movie. Everything just added up and he eventually passed out because it too much of a toll on his body.
@@lucianaromulus1408 Thing getting memory of host so it understand purpose but cannot copy it.
Blair actually wasn't crazy when he was smashing everything, well he had lost it a bit.. However, he saw the threat of The Thing and how if it, or even knowledge of it ever made it back to the rest of the world the entire world would be taken over in days. He destroyed the chopper and the coms system to protect the rest of the world from "The Thing"
Also if people actually bother to listen to what Blair is saying while he's smashing stuff up it's obvious he's trying to isolate the camp so the Thing can't escape.
@malorm Exactly. He would have just carried on assimilating them.
But no contact will eventually cause suspicion, and make people want to find out what happened to them.
You're not wrong, but he was doing the best he could. Perhaps hoping they could destroy it but making sure that no matter what at least it wouldn't get out just now.
@@shawbros
Yeah Blair haddint been taken over yet, it happened in Macreadys shack.
1. The Norwegian killed himself so The Thing couldn't get to him.
2. The ultimate hand grenade throwing FAIL 🙄🙄
3. You have to realize that this movie came out long before CGI so there was some very creative practical effects showcased here.
4. Mac's not a murderer. Clark was attacking him with the scalpel. It was self defense.
5. Of everything that went down the part that got me the most was when Blair was dragging Gary by the face.
6. Their fate is left arbitrary on purpose. Maybe it's best they all die.
7. They're re-making this sans Carpenter and Russell.
8. Another Russell/Carpenter product you need to first time/share with us is "Escape from New York".
I thought they used a real alien.
Actually, the "Norwegian" who was found to have killed himself was actually British, as I learned in the 2011 prequel of the film.
How "don't shoot the poor doggy! 😭" always inevitably turns into "I'm sorry for doubting you Norwegians ... SHOOT THE PUPPER! LIGHT HIM THE F*** UP!!!" is the best part about these reactions. xD
Such a good film. Messed me up badly in my early teens, watching it at home in the daylight. So pleased it’s now the ultimate cult classic. PS. Looking forward to when we get a reactor who speaks Norwegian.
Centane is Norwegian and reacted to this movie a couple of years ago.
@@thrinaxadon Thanks - will check that out. Spoilers!! 😉
You just saw one of the coolest movies ever. 80s flicks still the undefeated champion. Keith David makes every movie entertaining to me.
The Thing One of the greatest horror/sci-fi films ever made. This movie is a prime example of how setting and atmosphere are so important to making a film great. The acting is great, the practical effects are fantastically disgusting, and the plot is wonderful. There's a reason this titan of an 80s horror flick is considered one of the best.
Ironic that it was so poorly received when it debuted in theaters. Critics in particular didn't know what to make of the body horror. it took years for the public to clue into what makes this film so brilliant.
That wolf dog should have won an Oscar for acting. Just incredible it portrayed the role so well. The creators of the practical effects were top notch. Happy Halloween Magy 🎃
That wolf dog was named Jed. He also starred in white fang with Ethan Hawke. His little growling match vs Bart the bear was the best part of the movie.
That dog was acting his ass off!!!
That dog was PHENOMENAL. I hope he got all the goodies he deserved.
John Carpenter equaled the unrelenting suspense of Halloween with this nerve-racking remake. Carpenter's The Thing is one of the all-time great horror films.
IMO, he surpassed it. I think this is a better film than Halloween. It is a lot more dated than The Thing these days If it wasn't Jamie Lee Cortis's first film it would be further down the list of best horror films of the 70s and 80s.
Also it's not really a remake.
@@Mrster remake is an overused word. It's just another adaptation, which is truer to the original novella.
correct
@@brom00
@@brom00Look up a book called Frozen Hell. I think you'll dig it.
The reason why this film still holds up is because practical effects done well age's better than any CGI effects predator and alien come to mind both classics for a reason.
It's weird, it's like when CGI is done well, it somehow looks too perfect and artificial and sterile. It loses the artistic aspect. Flawed practical effects still retain that art.
The thing is a movie about a man getting tanked on alcohol and shape-shifting aliens interrupting him from time to time.
Who ever is your editor is doing a fantastic job! Your face looking during spooky season are crazy and funny! Love your reactions Magy!
I bet your glad spooky season is over until next year!
For all the over-45 crowd here: How odd is it to see Wilford Brimley (Blair) without the usual long walrus-like moustache he's seen with in other films like "The Natural" and "Cocoon"? (Btw, these are two films Magy should react to.)
I usually don't even recognize him until he speaks, then I immediately go "It's the Quaker Oatmeal guy!"
“The Thing” is suspicion, mistrust, and paranoia personified! It is the story of desperate men, isolated and hopelessly trapped in the middle of nowhere, caught up in a terrifying life-and-death battle with an inhuman enemy, in which the fate of the entire world hangs in the balance. What would you do?
The Suspense and paranoia makes this movie so intense. And the ambiguous ending is what makes this movie a masterpiece
The start of the movie, that sequence with the helicopter hunting the dog, hits so differently once you finish the movie and the enormity of what happened hits you. They were trying to kill the alien all along.
Just like "The Exorcist", this movie falls into the body horror category rather than the regular supernatural stuff.
That first reveal scene, seeing how the Thing turned from a dog into that monstrosity and attacked the other dogs, it's a haunting image.
Shapeshifter is really apt description for the Thing, you nailed it, Magy.
You've pointed out very well how that whole situation started messing up with their heads. Maybe they haven't realized it at first, when the dogs were copied, but once it started copying people, the real paranoia started settling in.
The few jumpscares present throughout the movie, followed immediately by body horror scenes can really make your heart beat faster.
Mac and Childs being the only survivors in the end, with the obvious suspicion that Childs could be the Thing as well - now that's one terrifying way of ending the movie.
Thank you for the fantastic reaction ❤
Hits you diffrent if you understand Norwegian to since the guy said Get the hell away! That's not a dog, it's some sort of thing! It's imitating a dog, it isn't real! GET AWAY, YOU IDIOTS!
Also ending of 2011 movie with smooth going into old film. When you see their attemt to stop dog and know they not make it.
Everybody this generation: "IS NOBODY SEEING THE HEAD?" Everybody my generation: "Aaah ha ha, the head hid under the desk!" Interesting.
I always laugh my ass off whenever someone watches this movie for the first time and falls in love with the dog at the start. 😂
Fun fact: the effects was done by a guy who loved John movies and was a fan of Halloween, he said if he could ever work with him it would be an honor, one day he gets the call at 22 years old if I'm not mistaken...he shows John all these pictures and ideas and looks at him and ask him ..."Can you do it?" The practical effects guy said yes... John told him "Let's make a movie"
The dog knows he's not a dog 😂
I like how pretty much every The Thing reaction starts off with “awwwww puppy 🥲”
This movie was strongly influenced by a John Campbell short story called "Who Goes there?". This was a parable of the cold war paranoia of that time.
Was it ? I thought the short story came from the 30s? Or you mean the movie lol
@@lucianaromulus1408 The story was published in 1938, but captured the claustrophobic and paranoid atmosphere perfectly. Campbell had donated a box full of his papers to Harvard, and in it was an unpublished manuscript for a complete novel for the thing. In 2019 a Kickstarter was successfully run to finally get it in print, by Wildside Press.
@@mrwidget42Not influenced by, actually based on (there's a difference). Also the novella isn't a parable of the Cold War (since that didn't start until after World War 2) but the 1950s film version might be.
Hola Magy (The Thing 1982) una de las mejores películas de syfy y terror, te recomiendo que veas la precuela también es genial, saludos con mucho cariño desde PERÚ.✌😎
Hello, young lady! If you haven't read it yet, you should consider to read H. P. Lovecraft's stories. This film, is considered one of the best (if not the best) that managed to adapt the horror atmosphere contained in Lovecraft's books.
Notice at the beginning when MacReady and his crew meet the dog? MacReady has that J&B bottle with him. The dog licks the guy's face. It could be that he and MacReady were passing the bottle before & after that. But pay attention to the end of the movie when MacReady makes sure to pass the bottle to Childs. All it takes is one little tiny molecule of the Thing to infect a person and take him over.
Wow! You watched one of the all time greats! And knowing this is the era before CGI means the actors were reacting to something real not something they had to imagine. Everyone involved in making this was at the top of their game! Happy Halloween!
7:51 "Come on, intereact with them."
"Okay, but only because you said so."
Magy this is one of those movies that once you see it, you'll never forget it. The power of great special effects and music positioning is top notch in this one. Great reaction 😊
The sound effects were top notch too.
Hi Magy!😊 When the Norwegian is trying to kill the dog at the beginning of the film he yells in his language "It is not a dog, it's a thing". With films like this I think there may be a return to practical effects.
The ladies all cheer for the dog at the beginning of this movie.
The floating delusional edits nearly killed me. 😂 Don't feel bad. You are not alone. 😉
Ive watched this movie a million times but it still freaks me out to this day.
It is generally considered that, at the end, Childs is a thing. He takes the bottle, drinks without hesitation and the theme music plays. McGready even laughs because he realizes it too.
10:35 I love how almost everyone is like "why are they shooting at the dog!!!" and then flip on a dime when the SHTF.
23:51 hahahaha yes, i knew that you will scream with that scene xD
IMO the most underrated and tragic character is Fuchs who's demise is maybe the most compelling. We don't know much about him except he's smart, studious conscientious (figures out the eat alone from cans idea after reviewing the alien autopsy reports) and nearsighted with thick corrective lenses. Suddenly he's helpless, stranded outdoors at night in whiteout storm conditions, forced to choose whether to accept alien Thing assimilation and "live" or perish in his humanity clutching his ignited phosphorus flare to his body, suffering a slow agonizing death by burning. An unimaginable fate and probably the most courageous act in the film.
Happy Halloween baby 😘

That second Magy is fantastic and funny Ideal. 😂 Great reaction
❤
No CGI. Amazing practical effects. Great acting. A haunting score. The BEST!
You should watch From Dusk Till Dawn. Don't look up anything about it beforehand though.
First time viewers of The Thing: Why are they shooting at that poor dog?!?
Everyone who has already seen this movie: That's not a dog.
Great reaction Magy.
🌹♥️👍
Watch the Thing 2011 the you will now what happend before this part.
I rather enjoyed watching this reactor get traumatized! Lol 😂😂😂
It is much better for the video when the movie is in the big picture and the reactor is in the small picture. Always fun to see newbies watch this film for the first time.
That "delusional" thing you inserted during the opening scene was very cute.
32:58 Dark ending. The Thing is dead but Mac is going to be soon anyway. But what’s this? Childs has suddenly reappeared on the surface. He seems human enough, but as we all know, they always seem human. The end?
I wish I had a dollar for every time Magy said "ew" in this movie.
Priceless reaction!
Thanks!
Haha, I was gonna say viewers could have made a drinking game out of it - every time Magy says "ew", take a shot... if she says "ew ew ew ew ew", just chug the bottle, lol. One gulp for each "ew".
you all want to die haha
When doc said “a normal set of internal organs.” He meant they seemed to be normal human organs. Not that the thing on the table was normal by any means. Just the organs looked like normal human organs.
It's always the same... it always starts with "Oh, don't hurt the dog!!!"... then, a few minutes later.... "KILL IT! BURN IT! BURN IT! ... 🙂
I love this movie too... I saw it in the theater at 13 in 1982. The SOUND.... I remember the SOUND it made most of all.
And, twice, on late night TV, I saw a different ending... After they cut away from Childs and MacReady, it fades to black, and then a scene of the camp in the morning, still smoldering... And a dog comes to the top of the hill... stops.. looks back over the burn out camp... and then lopes over the hill and away. The "thoomp thoomp" "music plays, and the credits roll.
The first time, I thought I must have imagined that ending... but I saw it AGAIN a couple years later. I've only seen that ending on TV, though.
I love how she says that putting that dog in a cage with lots of doggo friends "It's heaven for me" Then the dog turned into a literal hell hound alien!!! Mwahahhaah Really ruined her "heaven for me" moment!
23:48 and 26:15 are my favorite parts of this reaction video... thank you 😘
Both The Thing (1982) & The Sinning (1980) have similarities: Isolation, cabin fever, snow storm, open ending and both are Masterpieces! (2023.10.31)
There is a prequel to this that explains the Norwegian camp beautifully.
Happy Halloween Magy ❤🎃💀👻
You should see Event Horizon too, it’s a great movie.
It must be a younger generation thing but you young folks are always looking for jump scares. They aren't as frequent in these older, better written, movies. Why do young folks assume that nothing before CGI is any good? There are tons of movies from the past which are WAY better than anything in the last 20 years! The Fly, The Exorcist, The Omen, Poltergeist and Poltergeist 2. Even older movies such as The Birds or Psycho all of them are so much better. Expand your horizons and discover these superior movies from the past!
I Really Like Your Comment! I Adore "20th Century Films", I Never Get Tired Of Watching Them!
😂😂😂 I cant stop laughing at your reactions when the gory parts happens….
Youre brave to watch sci fi cosmic horrors like this one (one of my favorites for sure).
One suggestion you may like: Alien (the first one).
Sweet dreams.
There made a prequel of this movie (about the previous camp of Norvegian). There is also the actor who play Tormund in game of throne in this movie.
Actually, if you look very carefully, you can see Childs breath...but even in you couldn't it doesn't prove a 'thing' since just before they burnt Bennings-Thing you can clearly see his breath.
Oh no Magy! You just said that you found it less difficult to watch scary movies when you weren't alone and then you take on The Thing by yourself? Well, you're definitely getting in the Halloween spirit!
My favorite horror movie. I cant think of a worse scenario to find yourself in. Youre battling an intelligent enemy, you dont know if its malicious or simply trying to survive, if it touches you...youre dead, its almost impossible to detect, it can only be killed with fire/acid and if it gets to water or transportation its not just the end of humans but THE ENTIRE WORLD. Every Winter when the wind howls i think of this movie. It inspired me to get a flamethrower cause...you never know 😅
This is such a good movie. Glad you had fun with it!! :D And lol, I loved the second Magy being all like "what are you saying? You naive me!" Haha!
Happy Halloween!
26:19 GOTCHA~!!!!
The Exorcist, the thing, the fly, Psycho, these are the good old horror movies which are still pretty impressive in many ways
So are The Sentinel, the Omen and the first Poltergeist.
Stan Winston and Rob Bottin genius in visual effects🎉🎉🎉
Rob Bottin almost killed himself from exhaustion on this film but it made his whole career.
@@PV1230 , I know about this case, but it was hard for young people to work on such special effects and animatronics. But Stan Winston helped in one scene with the dog, at that time Rob Bottin was taken to the hospital.
My favorite reaction of u! Totally grossed out, horrified, and actually screamed like 3-4 times! And the scene,"Anyone not seeing this???...da hed, da hed!"😅😅😅
"Hindsight Magy" fading in and out was a great touch. Looking forward to seeing more of her.
For it to be 40+ years old and people to still discuss it today shows that the movie can withstand the test of time. There are a lot of theories out there about who was a Thing and when did people get turned. Especially at the end of the move. Most people think that Childs was a Thing because he vanishes a long time at the end and when he appears again, he's wearing different clothing which is because clothes get destroyed during the Thing taking over the person. Here is another view of the movie.
I think that MacReady was a Thing. Norris was the first from the American Camp to get taken over, followed by maybe either Palmer or MacReady. Remember they all act as individual beings, the Things do not work together, but a self preservation mode.
At the start of the movie we see MacReady playing a Chess game which is a symbolic theme throughout the entire movie. He was a chess player that was always steps ahead of the other players or the computer program. During Chess, in order to win, you have to sacrifice your own men to win the game.
When Windows came into the room where Bennings was getting assimilated, he dropped the key (listen for it). It never shows whom got these keys, but I'm going with it being MacReady. This was the keys that also unlocked the blood vault. This is how MacReady's blood didnt scream from the hot copper wire during the test as he used untainted blood from the sabotage blood vault. We never see MacReady cut his finger to put the blood in the dish for the test.
We also never see when Blair gets infected, but the last contact was with MacReady. Blair was still a human when they locked him in the shack, but right before MacReady leaves him alone, he takes a swig of Blair's alcohol that was sitting in front of him on the table, thus infecting the drink. Later on they go back to check in on Blair and hes got a noose hanging from the roof. He then says he is alright now but they still leave him out there. The alcohol bottle is gone from the table. From the sight of the noose, he was contemplating suicide and more than likely finished off the bottle to give him "liquid courage" and this is when he gets infected.
Fukes also tell's MacReady that he thinks that they should make their own meals and only eat out of cans as it could infect people this way. (Going back to Blair's computer analysis of the Things cells infecting other cells proves this to be correct.) MacReady's response to Fuke's suggestion was creepy as he stands there, paused, as if he underestimated Fukes and is rethinking what to do with this one, then only replies with an "alright..." then walks out of the room. Shortly after the lights go out and Fukes is next seen burnt up dead. Being a "leader" MacRready never shares the information Fukes suggested to him of not sharing food or drink with the group.
Then at the end, Childs gets infected when he is handed the alcohol and drinks from it. As soon as he takes a swig, The Thing theme music kicks in and MacReady laughs as if to say Check Mate.
Great reaction. If you want to experience the events at the Norwegian camp, check out the sequel, also titled The Thing. (2011) The effects are not as good, but an entertaining film nonetheless. With Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton. Gratitude.
The meddlesome studio execs ruined what could have been a brilliant follow up prequel.

In fact, almost everyone watching this movie fall into this "dog trap". 😉 Oh - and it's not "stupid." This is intrinsic to human and "natural" for a human. If you know what I mean 🙂
Really great work with stamps and cliches.
I advise you to watch also Texas chainsaw massacre from 1974. Absolute horror masterpiece
I have to skip every single 1st 5 minutes of each lets watch of this, except 2 channels. Its a movie called The Thing, John Carpenter's The Thing no less, why do you think he's trying to shoot it? But now throwing incendiary grenades at a dog... a dog...
Especially ladies, they get super emotional about this dog, which is not at all a dog. Its an imitation of a ½ Husky + ½ Timber Grey Wolf hybrid, which makes him behavior wise a wolf, not a dog.
This is my top horror movie. Perfect suspense/ paranoia building. It breaks the 4th wall and makes the viewer feel the paranoia. Plus, as always, Ennio Morricone’s score is great.
Hi Magy, love how every reactor, mainly female, reacts the same to the dog getting shot at in the beginning. It's like if only they knew lol. Nice reaction. This was my third reaction this year to it. Great movie, it had all the elements. This is one of Kurt's finest and if they ever did another remake (there is one) and a video game for Playstation 2, I'd want Kurt to return or at least a variant of him. So happy you finally saw this classic. John Carpenter's The Fog and They Live are a must in the future. Wes Craven's Deadly Friend is another. I suggest a remake of The Blob (1988).
Any movie can get shit for being older than the viewer or not having CGI etc. However The Thing being a 1980's film version of "Among Us" totally holds up and had Magy screaming and jumping all the time. Credit to you magy for realizing once the base is blown up MacReady is dead regardless. I like many of the 80's films that have that hard cut ending like The Fly, American werewolf in London and this. No need to show more story they are dead and the movie is over.
You think The Thing will gross you out and traumatize you for good? Try watching The Fly!!! Or The Blob!
So many people go through the same arc, it's fun to see. "What!? Don't kill the dog!" quickly becomes "Oh damn! Kill the dog! KILL THE DOG!!!" Perspective is everything.
As for the notion that aliens have crashed on Earth... try to consider something. Human beings, with _terrible_ and _limited_ technology fly 100,000 airline flights _per day._ Meanwhile we average four crashes a month. That's a one in a million chance of a plane crash with our limited, weak, terrible technology. ... For an _alien_ to crash, it means there's a _more advanced species_ out there, with _better technology_ than our own, that basically _never_ comes here (because they aren't swarming the skies or solar system in the millions on a yearly basis), but managed to crash on this planet, specifically, instead of any of the others, or just miss all planets entirely and drift forever in space. Imagine the odds of a plane crash in 1922, when there were basically no planes, onto a remote island in the middle of the pacific that is only 100 yards across instead of any of a dozen other islands in the area or the ocean itself. The odds against it are just _too_ huge to take seriously.
As for it leaving you worried at the end, that's the point. 40 years later and people _still_ debate whether Childs is The Thing or not... and some even wonder if MacReady is. My, recent, take is that... they both are. Two people can be exposed to the same disease at the same time and take different amounts of time for symptoms to show. This is because some get a worse case of it, or have different strengths to their immune system. As a result, you can have infected people wandering around asymptomatic for a while before the disease truly settles in. For a _really_ good example of this, consider cancer. Your body kills off cancer cells multiple times a day. You are _diagnosed_ with 'cancer' when your body loses that fight. So the most horrifying position to take is that they were all infected pretty early on, _long_ before the fights towards the end and destruction of the base, and The Thing just wants them to survive long enough to spread the infection internally. It needs to get close enough to them to confirm they are infected. It already did this with Childs, which is why it didn't attack him at all, and the reason the big bad thing that fought MacReady didn't _really_ attack but just got close and showed off its ability to transform is that it 'smelled' the infection inside him, and so had no reason to kill him. As to evidence for this, go back through and watch where Vance is looking out into the night and seems to be having 'heart trouble', and then later turns out to be The Thing. My suggestion is that what we were seeing wasn't 'heart trouble', but the beginnings of the infection taking over, that if there had been more time, the infection would have slowly won out. The Thing _attacks_ because it's then _faster_ and more certain in its conversions. The immune system has no chance to come back and finish off the infection. And if this is the case, then 90% of the movie doesn't matter, they lost the moment they were all infected, probably (as Fuchs suggested) through their food, or licking by the dog, things like that.
Some things about the movie. There's two times we're given hints about who 'The Thing' might be. One is when the dog goes into a room and you see a silhouette of a person turn towards the dog before the scene fades. The second is when someone passes in front of the door after the lights go out while Fuchs is trying to come up with some other test. Most people try to figure out who those look like. The problem is... it's none of the actors on screen. Meaning you can't work it out by shape, size, whatever. There's no match because it was done by an extra, specifically to confuse... though, really, it's to act like parts in a written story where the identity of a person is not conveyed in any way.
Great reaction! Have a nice day!
EVERY reactor starts off "Don't you DARE harm that puppy!"
and end with "KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!"😂
Don't know if you did watched this before magy.. but maybe I'm confusing with the homies lol ok in any case, enjoy. Your nightmares 😱
If it matters, if they had managed to shoot the dog in the beginning it wouldn't have made any difference. Except maybe it'd reveal a lot earlier that it isn't really a dog. Now you need to watch the prequel, also called The Thing, from 2011. 🤣
