Even though I don't even main a healer, as a tank I've been having similar feelings and I can only imagine how much more damaging it is as a healer. Why do they do this. . .
Yes yes, I know. I haven't uploaded in a while. I'm not happy about it either, but hopefully I'll also post a whole video where I quickly address my feelings and what's been happening. For now I have been pretty much fully focusing on my twitch streams, which I encourage you to stop by sometime :) But of course, I still want to make youtube videos so for now I decided to make something a bit more simple so I can get back into the mix again. Thanks for the patience ❤

Hi guys, sorry for the radio silence here on RUclips. Hopefully, I'll post another video soon addressing the situation (which I have been scrapping over and over for the past months), but in a nutshell after the whole WoW bs building up for a while and me losing faith in the game, I in turn also kinda lost motivation to produce videos. Of course I still want to make content here, so for now I made this quick and simple vid to get myself back into the mix a bit! In the meantime I've been having a blast streaming FF over on twitch so if you want to keep track be sure to stop by.
Dude really, your FF14 vids are even more amazing than the WoW ones. Hope you like making them as much as you did the WoW ones.
No worries man, take all the time you need.
As a fellow WoW refugee who has immigrated to FF14, I can empathize with you.
But your work is still outstanding! Hope whatever you work on next is something that fills you with passion and satisfaction!
I hope that wont prevent you from making parodies about WoW sometimes too. But it is good that you are having fun in FF.
While I play like 2 months per year on WoW now, I could not possibly start a new MMORPG

People dont understand, that healers in FFXIV dont resurrect from the dead and dont heal gravely injured people to full health. They wake K.O.ed members of their party and resupply Aether to exhausted and injured members.
thats why peopel still ened weeks bedrest or are not availble for a month since they nearly died. So even if you are a WHM you could not have saved H becasue he literally had a hole in his torso, its like trying to save someone with a bandage that had a cannonball thriust through his abdomen.
There are two things a Healer can't heal in this game. The NPC's we care about and the Emotional scars their absence leaves behind. To endure nonetheless - For those we have lost and those we can yet save.
All you can do is smile~ cause a smile better suits a hero.

I honestly don't think you can heal some wounds that are fatal though
Imagine what the ranged DPS feel when a bad guy gets to run away in a cutscenes...
Or when us ninjas see a KNIGHT do an olympic long jump onto an airship to escape
Especially vexing as a DRG main
Or when you play as a tank and you see a healer tank every single hit, not die and kicking every enemies ass
How do you think Black Mages felt when that one airship starts flying off near the end of Heavensward
Run away?
More like turn around and walk away laughing
Fun fact about the spell that kills a certain happy elezen boi.
When that is cast on you in the extreme version of the raid you will get a debuff from it that nullifies healing with the flavour text "There was nothing you could have done..." if you hover over it.
That one made total sense because we all seen Gunge Lance being wound up but nobody knew about the debuff state it delivered.
Would have been better to see a heal attempted and it not work.
@@BWA85 Not really. Every Extreme/Savage is a hypothetical what if and the game tells you as such it is mere fancy. They only put that in as a bit of an easter egg as a nod to players who kept complaining about that cutscene.
Edit: Ya'll are missing my point by entire continents. My comment referred to the debuff in the trial and debuff only. The person I was responding to made it like you couldn't heal Haurchefaunt because of some special anti-healing effect it delivered. Obviously you can't heal a mortal wound they'd die from in seconds... Every response to my comment are going off on stuff I never prompted.
@@AdventurerOfOblivion I suppose most people who complain about the "healing issue" didn't properly read the healer job quests because those do go into a bit of detail how healing works and how some things just aren't feasibly mendable. Being "dead" as a player also isn't death and "resurrection" spells aren't actually resurrection but more like "more powerful heals" because reviving the dead is impossible, see Edda's tragedy.
@@AdventurerOfOblivion Nah, Dude gets his chest destroyed, no one can heal this, healing in FFXIV is making the body natural regeneration go faster, you can't heal fatal wounds like those

@@BlackBlur888 Stormblood cutscene after first Zenos fight
@@BlackBlur888 Once scene that comes to mind is in Rhalgar's Reach when Zenos attacks. If your a healer you get told by Krile to get to work healing one of the Scions who got injured.
@@BlackBlur888 there are five or six times your healing is referenced that I can think of:

In Eden Scholars can tell Urianger that "I'm a Scholar, I know how rain works."
In the preparations to attack the Tower Of Zot, you can volunteer to be on the healing team, but are denied on the grounds that even as a healer, you're STILL the most powerful person in the Scions and need to go on the attack team.
When being introduced to the Ilsabard Contingent, A-Ruhn Senna mentions your proficiency as a White Mage if you have the lv 80 quest completed
Similarly the tank role quests make reference to your healing abilities if you have at least one healer at 80.
And whilst I wasn't on Healer at the time since I did Endwalker as a Summoner and went Scholar for dungeons, there are one or two points in EW where you help heal people if you are playing a healer at that moment.

same, but healer questlines make it pretty clear that medicine and surgeons are important.
were essentially field medics with magic bandages and defibrillators. healing spells only causes a body's natural healing to go a lot faster, and raise only works on KO so were essentially going "CLEAR! *zap*" anything serious even the healers in the questlines go "this woman needs heart medication" or "this guy's organs are ruptured get a surgeon!" not in those words but pretty much.
@@CloudHiro hehe
What sometimes drives me nuts is that I’m a Whm, Sch and Smn at lvl 67. Even Smn has a weak heal spell and raise…
But I’m also a lvl 50 Alchemist and I routinely carry a few of the best potions, ethers and sometimes antidotes that I myself brewed. Lol yeah I’ve fully embraced the power of being a healer.
@@mikoto7693 yep. its frustrating but raise never brought back the dead (in any Final fantasy game)just raised from near death unconsciousness and they go out of their way story wise to go "we used healing magic but he/she still needs a proper surgeon or medicine" heck even the white mage story line we needed to bring the mother medicine for her (heart?) condition
healing magic is powerful but isnt the big all end all
Playing as a paladin its painful how many times my character could have pulled out his shield to protect someone but he just didn't.
And then other people steal the *jumping in fromt with a shield* glory moments from us :(
Your character doesn't care about anyone else except himself :(
Just in general, the amount of times i though, if only my character did something now instead of just watching things happen. Though, things improved after HW.
That has annoyed me a lot throughout ARR and HW. I mean, how about the fight with Griffin atop Baelsar’s Wall for example. How much of a problem would either Shinryu or Onega been if the WoL had jammed a knife into a certain someone’s heart while he was kneeling helplessly on the ground because of the savage beating he’d just received? Or if the WoL had punted him off the top of the wall before he could use… those items… to enact his plan?
But no, all the WoL does is stand there gormlessly while Griffin recovers his strength, gets back to his feet, then continues to stand there just watching while Griffin carries out his dastardly plan. The WoL doesn’t even try to stop him.
I feel this in my bones. My very bones.
Every time, literally every time. Makes me go crazy when there is not a valid explanation of why I can't save someone when I'm a healer.
And then three cutscenes later they acknowledge you as the strongest healer in the group.
"Every time, literally every time. Makes me go crazy when there is not a valid explanation of why I can't save someone when I'm a healer."
I mean there is. Healing in XIV canonically is more like first aid then anything else. It can just help patch people up, it can't for example save someone who got impaled through the chest. Healing magic is just speeding up your bodies natural healing process with aether. Also of note is that the most notorious bit for this in game involved an attack that in the trial actually applies an debuff that prevents healing.
But ya there is lore reasons, which are basically that healing is actually rather limited.
Amazing video...keep those coming and enjoy your Journey in Eorzea !

I think the devs saw this because they literally changed the cutscene this patch for this exact moment.
That one moment we're all thinking of actually has an in-game explanation as to why you can't heal that particular person in that situation.
The guy who did it can put a debuff on players that makes healing ineffective.
Also it's a white hot lance of pure energy. I am pretty sure it already cauterized the wound as it went through which would make healing it impossible. It's already "healed" in a sense.

IIRC it's mentioned in Encyclopedia Eorzea that healing spells basically Super-Charges the targets natural healing abilities. It's when stuff that the body have major problems healing on its own that doctors and surgeons jump in
I think the only scene since then that has bugged me a bit since HW is in Endwalker when a bunch of Blasphemies are attacking people, and instead of using a ranged attack or a spell to knock a specific character out of an enemy's hand, we just kind of 'run' with our hand out at the monster and the guy in his grasp gets eaten (being vague in case someone who hasn't played hasn't seen gotten there).
Just made me go "I bet I could have saved him or at least tried had I just fired off a spell and tried knocking the guy out the monster's hand or something... or at least throw more monsters at me to prevent me personally from doing something about it besides just jogging at them with mild concern".
I could be misremembering it, but just a little nitpick I had lol. I'll probably have more concrete feelings on that little thing when I replay it on an alt.
But back on topic, I do appreciate them taking you being a healer into account after HW. It's nice when we can do some healing ourselves in a cutscene if we are able.

Wow, even a shoutout to FFXI with some Distant Worlds. Very impressive.

On the other side of the pendulum there's "the healer struggle during instanced fights/forced losses" where NPCs are worried about you losing but you're still at 100% HP
"Haha! You did well to get to this moment, Warrior of Light. Now face my ultimate technique, that I didn't lead with, that does just enough damage for you to not die and lose in this cutscene."
If RDM counts as a healer. "I could do this all day," is not an empty promise.

Lol, the music does wonders. I almost cried... Animations are top notch as always 😊.
yoooo That FFXI music in the first part, grim is a man of culture confirmed.
I felt this in my soul 😂
Keep up the amazing (and hilarious) work!
It's between this, seeing the enemy walk away as a ranged fighter or for those who tank like me. You see an army of enemies and tell yourself "I've pulled worse" then you get flashbacks of doing squadrons if you do big pulls with npcs.
The cutscenes are the WoL's only true insurmountable enemy. Don't forget the pain of being a ranged DPS that just can't seem to throw a thing in time to stop something bad from happening.
Or if you’re a mage too. Heck as a Smn I should be able to sic Carbuncle on them.
The weather change 😂
But foreal though. Gets poisoned “i have ESUNA!”
Playing WHM during the Nanamo scene... I can esuna that you know. Lol
We can also just Return spell our way out too. No need for long chases and crazy Flow magic.
the nanamoo cutscene i remember my cousin being a white mage and hes like come on im sitting there there i can just esuna her
That one almost made me quit the game in disgust. There I was, a perfectly capable Scholar with Esuna hotkeyed. The moment Nanamo starts to choke and react to the poison I’d have been tossing Esunas and heal spells like there was no tomorrow.
Even if the poison was one of those bullshit ones that magic can’t cure it still would have looked a lot better and perhaps the guards might have believed you’re not the poisoner.
Mind you I also hated how the WoL just gives up and lets the Ul’dahns just arrest her on false charges. You know you didn’t do it and you know Ul’dah is rife with corruption, why would the WoL risk being illegally killed or spirited away the moment she allowed her hands to be bound?
The following cutscenes made me even angrier especially if your WoL is a member of the Maelstrom or Twin Adders and even more so if one of rank. Even if arresting a member of your military isn’t a diplomatic issue, the fact that the WoL has protected or outright saved Gridania and Limsa Lominsa (Leviathan for example) should have at least gotten the Admiral or Seedseer to say something about the situation!
And that’s before I even get into teleportation magic. All the WoL and the Scions should have needed is a second or two to cast Return! In my case I’d have appeared in Limsa Lominsa, well away from any political fallout.
Honestly, that face at 0:47 made me feel memories. Well done.
As a white mage main this speaks to me on a spiritual level.
Yeah there was definitely a scene where I thought "I have antidote potions, esuna, raise, a phoenix down, and various healing spells... why aren't I using them to save her?"
"I can LITERALLY summon Phoenix, I can summon a god that has canonically brought back other gods, LET ME HEAL YOU PLEASE."
This has been a thing in Final Fantasys since forever!
Yup, I was thinking that at the end of ARR before you end up in Ishgard. “I have Esuna. I literally stopped the green death disease with it. I’m also an alchemist so I have antidotes on me. Why can’t I Esuna her and then GTFO of there with Return. I can be in Limsa Lominsa in two seconds flat.”
If you’d done that, bad guy might have just stabbed her and blamed u while you were gone, but I get your point.
I remember back when Black Mage was able to heal with infinite mana. Then they took that one healing spell away from us so we cannot just carry the entire dungeon run anymore after the healer dies to standing in AoEs.
I remember when healers still had more then 2 buttons to deal dps , and doing DPS as a healer was more engaging ...
Square has been dumping down options for everyone but Tanks down over the years .... and i hate it ...

There's a very cool comment a found awhile ago on why you couldn't heal in cutscenes "The glowing spear attack used in the cutscene taking place after The Vault is also part of the mechanics of the following Primal fight. It's called "Spear of Fury" and players hit by it are given a debuff called Infirmity, which nerfs the potency of healing magic. We can assume it also has this effect during the cutscene." credit to Rupo for typing it
To add, said debuff has the flavour text: there was nothing you could've done
Wish I’d have known that at the time. When I first saw the cutscene after the Vault I was a Scholar and I was thinking. “Come on Sophie you’re a Scholar! Don’t just stand there! At least try to heal him! You have plenty of mana left!”
I’m SO glad Krile acknowledged the fact I was a healer in the one cutscene, even if it doesn’t have a huge gameplay change, it means a lot to be acknowledged like “yeah I can do that too :)”

There's a questline in South Shroud where an Ala Mhigan is dying, and they beg the healer in town to help him but muh Elementals. Meanwhile, I'm standing there as a WHM with Esuna, Cure II and at least 10 hi-potions.
Lol I remember that. There might be something to be said about the White Mage job being linked to the elementals which might have frowned upon you using your conjury/white magic on the Ala Mighan…
But there’s absolutely no excuse why a Scholar couldn’t have used Esuna or Alloquim (spelt wrong I know) to heal him. Even worse if you’re also an alchemist like I am and carried a bunch of potions, antidotes, ethers and a few of those stat potions.
I'm glad to see your talents translate to ffxiv animations man! Quality stuff as always
FINALLY! Been waiting for a new machinima. Love it.
I have never related to a video so much. Heals raid - cut scene - "go get a healer " - WTF AM I? haha love it
A new grim video never fails to entertain
Every healer in the history of FF14 knows how this one feels... in that one specific cutscene *coughafterTheVaultcoughcough* XD
But that attack was designed to kill the warrior of light. In Thordan Savage that same attack targets the parties healer and it out right stops you from healing the damage. The fact a normal person without the echo or hydelyns blessing took it too the chest and still had time to tell us a smile better suits a hero is impressive.
@@jamesstewart7784 Also if you hover over the debuff you get while targeted in the extreme it states "there is nothing you couldve done"
This has been a thing in every Final Fantasy since forever!
@@thetakenhollow7711 I know about that mechanic, yeah - but in that situation (and most people dont run ThordanEx these days anyway), this is just frustrating ^^° Though I think I heard that SCH and WHM get other dialog options that say that... Not that I know, I was a RDM :D
@@jamesstewart7784 Thats what you know when you dig deeper and actually do ThordanEx - but most people dont nowadays. I mean, I myself had to look it up until it made sense - but that moment, in that cutscene... it was just frustrating :D
I feel that so much! I mostly play DDs and Tanks, but heard from many healers in such dramatic Cutscenes almost yelling: I AM A HEALER, I CAN DO STUFF TO HELP YOU!?!
*Gostesu:* I can't hold this much longer...quickly!
*Healer:* [tries to heal Gosetsu]
*Gosetsu:* [shakes head] No.
*Healer:* Am I a joke to you all? Q.Q
Maybe the healer could have just... maybe, casted Rescue on him... come to think of it, that sounds hilarious
As a DPS, the cutscene is also our greatest bane.
NPC Ally: "Oh no. We're surrounded! We'll have to surrender."
WoL: "You sure? I can kill all of these guys in a heartbeat."
NPC Ally: "No. There's just too many of them."
WoL: "There's like... 11 of them. I counted before clicking your next dialog response. I can definitely kill them."
NPC Ally: "We'll have to surrender our weapons and hope for the best."
WoL: "You do realize I'm at level cap. These guys are literally just basic throne room guards. They don't likely even see any action. I wouldn't even need to AoE them."
NPC Ally: "Just hold onto hope, friend."
WoL: "I KILLED SEVEN GODS THIS MORNING GRINDING TOMESTONES! I could switch to my fishing class and STILL take these rent-a-cops out. There is no reason why us being outnumbered by a small packs of ordinary people should- And I'm handing my weapons over. WHY!?!"
In the Thordan trial when the knight that killed Horchefaunt uses the same skill if it hits you it leaves an antihealing debuff actually.
This is probably too much of a spoiler for folks that haven't finished Heavensward yet...
theres a reason everyone else mentioning that in this video and every reaction video to it make sure to do so vaguely without spoiling it...
Fiiiiinaaaallly someone who tackles it! I haaaaaaate how they don't consider the classes in the cutscenes. It's understandable in a way, but it was one of the reasons (and that they made scholars boring af to level), why i switched classes in endwalker. I guess i just expect more after so many years.
If healers were allowed to do their job there won't be any tragic deaths in any game.
There's a scene in Final Fantasy IV I appreciate because the party healer actually does try to use their skills, even though it doesn't work.
ur editing skills are insane man i love it
Your appeal and style has really been translated well into these FFXIV machinimas. This feels like a Captain Grim video just as much as your wow vids.
I wish this were longer. Its SO good
I sometimes have a similar feeling as an MCH main… when Gaius jumps onto the elevator I wish there was an option to re-enact the swordsman scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark…
Love your stuff Grim, thank you.
I'm happy to provide :)
So this is it, FFXIV has finally taken everything from WoW.
So be it
I can recall 2 cutscenes where they aknowledge your character being a healer. One in Rhalgr's Reach (Krille tells you to help the injured since you're a healer) and the other I don't even recall, but I think it was in Endwalker.
Masterfully captured sentiment as always Grim
Very nice video ! Love the animationand editing. Also using a song from FFXI soundtrack to start is a nice touch
I love that the music got louder to drown everything out.
One of the things I really appreciated about Spellforce 3 was how if you had your healer in the party at the time, then the two times you come across a dying NPC she would attempt to heal them, with one of them actually working.
The animations have gotten even better.
Well done!!
lol I'll never forget that single cutscene in Rhalgr's Reach during Stormblood where Y'shtola and Krile asked for my help to heal the wounded soldiers because I was a Scholar. I felt more important than ever.
I love that you included the sad song from FFXI haha!
Funnily enough. The guy that hits a certain character with an ability that ends in their demise is in the subsequent boss fight. He uses this ability. It prevents healing of all forms on the target it hits and has the flavor text "There's nothing you could have done"
