Kapilvastu is a historical place in present-day Nepal, which is believed to be the place where the Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, spent his formative years before his enlightenment. It is considered an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists, and is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. The ruins of the ancient city of Kapilvastu can be found near the modern town of Taulihawa in the Lumbini zone of Nepal.

Tilaurakot is an archaeological site in Nepal, located about 27km west of Lumbini, which is the traditional birthplace of the Buddha. Tilaurakot is believed to be the site of the ancient city of Kapilavastu, the capital of the Shakya kingdom and the childhood home of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha. Excavations at Tilaurakot have revealed the ruins of a palace, fortifications, and other structures that date back to the time of the Buddha. The site is now an important pilgrimage destination for Buddhists and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
