Hey to those who posted criticism over on Facebook, just because something is a gift, doesn't mean the receiver is obligated to talk it up. The great thing about folks like Buckin is this all is coming from the heart, agree or disagree, right or wrong. He's just telling what he see's, feel's, and interprets. Honest. Wish more were like that.
In all fairness a stock 288 was lazy! There were substantial gains in rattler’s build! Good job! 394’s were in a class of their own! A stock 288 didn’t come anywhere near them! This shows what ported saws can really do! Great vid!
I loved reading Harvey's comment! Would love to hear Tinman chime in if he hasn't done so already. I agree the 394 is the clear winner. It just has that "pull" quality that most people are looking for. I have an anniversary edition 288 which I love dearly, but my 394 is just a special saw. Great video, and your content has been phenomenal as always! Love you all...❤️❤️❤️ Lieutenant Bradley

Awesome video Buckin. I was having a hard time changing out my 36" bar and chain on my Husky 395 XP. I also have a 32" bar and chain. Great tip thank you for showing and explaining the proper way to change out the bar and chain. I knew I was doing something wrong. Working on my hand filing. Kindness is a better path in life my friend.
Hey Buckin’ I still run a 181xp that was my fathers, it’s a absolute honey it’s done many many hours production logging and firewood. If I happen to come across another one I will be sending it your way brother!
I am with you Billy the old 394s are dear to my heart. I started out with them logging. The 394 had more guts . The pulling power is better than the other one. Love wins.
Loved watching the competition of the saws. Always entertaining Buckin, I liked the first one you used. Looking forward to the next video.💯❤️👍🏾😀🙋🏽♀️✝️🙏🏾🇺🇸
I have a ported 460 Rancher 24" and am looking at going with a bigger bar on it. Dream of the day when my firewood gets me enough to go a bit bigger. My goal is to have a few strong saws that can hold 30"+ bars in the big wood without bogging. Most the trees I deal with are 18-26" but still running across a few maples that I drop for folks that push 46"+ at the butt so a reliable strong engine with say a 32" bar would make my life so much easier. My firewood cutting and tree cutting still in the hobby phase for now though so gotta play it smart.
I have the older low top 288 and it melted the brake off on my Alaskan and kept on cuttin…leaned on er hard many hrs in the day and it’s never missed a beat…
Absolutely loved this video challenge! I've got the 288 although isn't running just now, but when she's rebuilt, I'm gonna run my own challenge, too... The competition will be my new (& newest saw), a 390XP... Can't wait! (I actually wanted the 395 xp, but they were out of stock at my fav shop in Salem, IN - D & D Enterprises - and they had no idea when new inventory would come in during summer of 2021.) Thanks for the great entertaining and informative video Billy!!!
At the end of the day the old saying rings true. Port work or not, there's no replacment for displacement. Both saws sound great and props to the builders. I would take 394 all day but would be happy with either, honestly. Thanks for the great vids buckin 🤙
I have a liking for 288s. Both sound and more important cutting big oaks. I have three running and two more in the works. I like the old saws. Nice comparison BBR.
The 394 gave the 288 it’s lunch money, because it felt bad for the lil fellah! Can’t beat a 394 or a 395. Love my 395, they’re monsters. They Pull hard when you need it in the big wood! Thanks for another great vid buckin!
288 is a great saw ran them for years it was just an EVERYDAY WORK HORSE 10 hrs a day. I still have a 288XP Light that I run to this day. I love my 390 395 and my 3120 but wouldn’t want to run those 10 hrs a day.
I just love the 70’s-80’s “It’ll take your lunch money expression!!!!”😂😂😂. It’s really funny how all saw guys have the same twisted sense of humor!!! 👍😂
394 is just one of those saws. That 288 runs but a 394 is a whole nother class. I wouldnt expect a 288 to run with a 394. You can see clear gains though. I'd be a happy guy with that 288. The last split video is the tail of the tape. 394 just has it. 288 is no slouch though.
That old 394 is a nice saw, but sorry, 6cc's in chainsaw world is a lot. If it wasn't people wouldn't bother big bore conversions on their 372's and 066's. Enjoy the saws that you enjoy.
394 took it!! sounds better in the cut and holds power better im running a 395xp and 3120xp always reaching for 395 better saw cuts consistently and a nicer easier saw to manage and cuts through trees all day love it, nice comparison good video cheers!!
So I got to ask the 3 120 XP is it worth the money? Or should I just get a Ms881mag? I know just shoot myself that's what your thinking LOL but no seriously what's up with the BIGGEST Husqvarna saw in production? Like can you tell me about how big of bar it can cut with and milling how big of chain? 3/8" or 404 5/16?
Great video Buckin. I haven't gotten to watch near as often, because I switched jobs. I am out working with my hands and sweating all day now, where as before I had alot of idle time as a driver in construction. I love your content as always. Like you said, it feels great to get out and do physical work, and have lost a bunch of weight by doing so. Keep bringing that positivity and love. 🤘🌳🪓
My 394 was built on a 288 at the factory. It is unmatched up against everything else I've run, including 044, 064, 660 Stihl and it even smokes a 372 in big wood. It has the weight to keep moving, and it has SO much torque that when it's moving it won't stop. I've never run a 288, but I'm sure they were stout and quick, but a 394 is Holy Grail land and I'd take it over 3120 if I had the choice! It is a CRIME to have that 288 wearing a half wrap - even the red chinese full wraps are affordable enough to upgrade!
What a pity you're not just nextdoor - You could maybe figure out what's up with our old 266! It's got about ten gazillion hours on it! Loving it, seeing a fella who's in the zone with his machines.
I like that new 592 its very light for fallers who gets to carry em,and tons of power but for 380 bucks that farmer saw is great drill another hole in the exhaust and port it and you got a saw,but if you get it stuck don't pull to hard it breaks the tank, the sweeds use much better plastics
If you look really closely.. when buckin is readying the saws on his tailgate, those trees in the background have beads of sweat popping out on them. Each of them doing their absolute best, to appear smaller than they really are,and hoping to the tree gods he dont want to build something where they stand
I have a question, with your experience and all the saws you ran. You would go to a store today and had only ONE saw to buy, which one would it be and what bar size ??? :)

Very close. If I had to have just one it would be the 94 because it has proven itself in some of the most rugged country on the planet. Great vid. I love them both.
That 394 sounds like it has a lot of work done to it. I have a low top 288xp with some mild port work and it runs good in hardwoods, but nothing like a worked over 390 or 394/395. The 390 is a 372’s bigger bruiser brother and with the right work runs better than the mythical 288xp or 395 without the extra weight. So what’s all done to the 394? It sounds too Barky for a muffler mod and some polishing.

Man my craftsman I got at Lowe's the other day will whip those ,and my old poulan wood shark wood come close but she's getting tired.
Such a humble. Yet beast of a man
LOVE mine, too!!!
