I have a Muncie transmission shop for 44 years called Garys Gearbox near Allentown Pa. So When I do this procedure I use a jig and drill the case on the drill press where I can get a more concentric hole. Its difficult to drill it properly when you have to chase the transmission all over the bench. As important is that I only drill the bare cases so as to not put shavings from the drilling into the transmission where the aluminum will absolutely stick to the teeth of the gears. Just saying!
The drill bit is matched to the tap and you can get both at any machine tool company The final hole is 27/64 and the tap is a pipe tap of 1/2 inch npt and I hope this helps Garys Gearbox

We used to jack the front end of the car up and remove the bottom bolt of the tail housing. It drained slow but got allmost all out..
automatic centering punch ?? I love your sense of humor..
What an oversight not to have that drain plug to begin with! Great work! ❤

Fill plug is stuck on mine, do i dare heat it up a little? Aluminum case ya know, don't want to damage anything.

Really no reason to make such a long hole for a plug. A small screw would be fine. Use compressed air to blow oil out.
Thank you for the suggestion! I based my drain plug "retrofit" on the factory plug for the M21.
