I never realised that the beginning has the Fire Emblem theme hidden underneath. This retro version brought it out more and I’ll listen for it in the normal version
The theme was composed for CF’s endgame, then recycled later in AM. I GREATLY dislike the music choices in AM’s endgame, because they are recycled from other contexts and it’s just extremely unfitting. “At What Cost?” works a lot better to be the AM endgame theme, I feel; even the name embodies what AM tries to go for with its final boss. Apex of the world was composed to “embody Edelgard’s triumph and the realization of her ideal world coming about”, and this harkens back to Edelgard’s personal theme, Edge of Dawn. The initial version of the Fire Emblem theme of this game slowly transitions into Edelgard’s theme; this is intentional since the game’s core symbolism with the Fire Emblem of the game is that it is tied to Edelgard, and so the meshing of her theme embodies that. Specifically, a major thematic of the game is portraying the avatar and Edelgard as “siblings in destiny”, insofar as their fates both entwine inextricably with each other, in pretty much every route except for AM (A lot of Edelgard and avatar’s connection in AM is eschewed for a stab at trying an Edelgard/Dimitri one). One of the epithets/terms associated with them in Japanese Intsys materials like art books, Cipher, etc is “The Twin Flames”. A big part of the VW/SS plot is that both Edelgard and the avatar are reaching for the same justice but have been set upon each other’s paths as inextricable foes, and their “flames” pushed them onto each other’s path as mirrors/fated partners in this sense. One flame is extinguished while the other burns as Fodlan’s new dawn, uniting the church and three nations and all that. The idea behind THIS context with the FE theme at the start of Apex of the World is that their fates take a different path. It has such a triumphant rendition of the FE theme at the start because both of “the Fire Emblems” have united their destinies as allies to seize justice and bring humanity to a new dawn together, and both flames burn brightly as comrades and deep friends, striking down both the tyrant Seiros who has caused humanity intense grief and hardship in her scorn for them and her desire for vengeance, and soon being able to forever annihilate the threat of Those Who Slither in the Dark and strike them down for causing endless grief and hardship due to THEIR desire for vengeance.
@@JacobNintendoNerd99 I imagine this is used Dimitri’s route because the final battle involves Edelgard, and this song is a remix of the Edge of Dawn, a song sung by Edelgard. Both maps that play this song have Edelgard involved in some way.
@@JacobNintendoNerd99 Wasn't Crimson Flower made last? It's the shortest in chapters and unlike the other 3 routes, the reunion and Rhea's reveal are both still image cutscenes rather than fully animated.

It's a Fire Emblem Heroes thing. To sum it up, one of the many failed get-rich-quick schemes Commander Anna made to get money for the Order of Heroes. Although, it went better than the others since it worked... Until Edie and Hubie saw how talented they were and recruited them for the Empire. The following Forging Bonds had her considering one with swords. I would highly recommend finding transcripts of the Forging Bonds events from Heroes because they are GLORIOUS. The writers do an amazing job with them. I want to say CHOP was for the one with Osain.
This song fits perfectly for both edelgard and dimitris last maps. Yes god shattering star is epic but it doesn't hit the same feels as having a track you heard many times remixed into the final battle theme.
The thing I like about it is how it represents the conflicts of The Kingdom Army, the Church of Serios, and the Empire, which is why the Verdant wind boss doesnt have it, cause it's just the Allience fighting an entirely new opponent whom I will not say for spoiler reasons,
For me, it will always feel more Edelgards final map theme then Dimitris. There is just something about slowly making your way through the flaming capital to this music that feels ridiculously epic.
In Edlegards case.... If im correct....Its suppose to represent her duality as a hero and villain. In Azure Moon she becomes a monster for her ideals while in Crimson Flower, she is (albeit in the most aggressive way) purusing change and hasnt lost herself in the process of trying to bring change. Its ironic that the only or main reason she kills Rhea in this route is for her setting the capital on fire despite not being evacuated

It has a more harmonic and triumphant remix of the Fire Emblem theme at the start for the same reason the initial version of Edelgard’s theme has it; it’s meant to represent the harmony of both of “The Twin Flames” (Byleth and Edelgard’s shared epithet in Japanese 3H material), and how their destiny followed a different path than in VW/SS, since Edelgard and Byleth being a kind of “siblings in fate” is a big theme of the game. It’s meant to evoke the struggle against the tyrants Seiros and Thales finally coming to an end, and ending both of their influence on Fodlan that has made it a land of misery and strife for an eon. It doesn’t really represent anything in AM. The song was composed for Crimson Flower and kind of shoved in a route where it doesn’t belong; a song meant to embody Edelgard’s triumph doesn’t work for an outcome where Edelgard has become a shell of her former self or anything AM goes for with its endgame. “At What Cost?” feels much more fitting for the AM endgame tries to go for, both in tone and name.
Honestly I feel like this cover really shows just how epic of a battle theme it really is. Fire Emblem’s really come a long way in terms of soundtrack- not to say the older games had bad music, but… well, the song speaks for itself

It was representing the Lords of each game, and seeing as Future Claude and Dimitri aren't in Heroes, they went with the Part One forms (also they... SORT OF were trying to keep the war a secret.)
Its a shame that 3 houses was never localized, I really wanted to play as Erelgar, Dimitrey or Klaus here in north America
