BNSF's Columbia River Sub [Wentachee to Spokane Washington]

- Travel to Eastern Washington State and tour a lesser-known rail line that connects Stevens Pass with the busy Funnel. The Columbia River Subdivision begins at Wenatchee, which garners the nickname “Apple Capital of the World” and continues through orchards, coulees, and wheat fields to Latah Junction in Spokane. This was part of Great Northern’s route constructed by the “Empire Builder” James J. Hill and today serves as BNSF’s Northern Transcon.
This is your trackside seat to watch trains race along the banks of the Columbia River and sprint through the heart of Eastern Washington’s Wheat Belt. One of the highlights is Trinidad Loop where trains climb to the top of the Columbia Plateau near Quincy. We have included several fantastic aerial views of long trains snaking around the loop.
Besides BNSF trains, we will visit nearby short lines including the Columbia Basin Railway and the Washington Eastern. Both railroads sport classic EMD power from SD9’s to a snoot nose tunnelmotor and 20-cylinder SD45!

Appreciate your hard work for all these rail fanning videos throughout the western states. Thank you.
Another top shelf video from 7idea. Great trains, scenery and history. Well done!
Thank you!
That shot at 24:10 coming up to Trinidad is fantastic. It really tells the scale of the gourge. Great presentation.
Awesome to see a new video uploaded. Only 10 minutes ago !
Thanks for the wonderful trips you provide. Trains & landscapes....the only way it could be better would be if I could be riding in the cab ❤. Thank you
Great work as usual
Great video, born and raised in Wenatchee and currently raising my family here. I know all these areas very well! Great video!!
I love your videos thanks for this one it made my day
This is really awesome watching this thank you.🇺🇲🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲
Thank you for pointing out the 1940-ish revisions to the route on the Trinidad Loop - I re-consulted my Google Earth mapping and noted the older elevated cuts and fills which I had missed during my recon a few years ago. Nicely done all around!
Hi, from the UK. That was a fantastic presentation and very enjoyable to watch, thank you. As well as the Trains, I liked learning about the Geology and Geography of the Railroad, seeing the Townships and their reasons for existing, the Natural and Manmade History.
I recall years ago at my local Folk music club, an old guy who always used to perform the 'Grand Coulee Dam', by Woody Guthrie.
Another excellent video, even if done in recent years.
Spectacular! Great work 7idea!
1:50:36 that SD40T-2, what a sound
Nice film 🎥
Excellent
The tunnel dates to around 1902 when the original line through Trinidad was replaced with the current alignment. The cast date of 1940 in the tunnel portal is for when the tunnel was lined with concrete, as the original wood cribbing was getting tired, so says the GN document for the project. There was no realignment through here in 1940.
Thanks for the clarification!
Yeah ! RailFanDan !
Love the inclusion of the short lines with the classic emd power. You missed the old rusty dusty though. Otherwise, capital work as usual.
I like train videos on RUclips 👍
Thanks Aaron. Very lone some area! I got a question, at the end you mentioned that a tunnel was being flushed, what is that? I've never heard that term used before. Thanks!
A ventilation system in the 7.8 mile-long Cascade Tunnel on Stevens Pass flushes out smoke in between trains.
How many BNSF Subdivisions are you guys Connecting all the way to Chicago? Im loving it but i take what im given thanks guys.
Out of curiosity, do you guys happen to cover the east coast?
I hope to get there. Been so busy out west!
I would love to know what camera they use
That was shot on a Panasonic AG CX350. The drone was a Mavic 2 Pro.
Awesome video, EPHRATA is pronounced E FRAY TUH not U FRAY TUH
Thanks for the correction!
I’ve watched a whole lot of your videos as a railfan. Your narration style is very professional and easy to listen to, but please make an effort to research and properly pronounce place names, etc.
What did he mispronounce?
I’d imagine nobody who lives easy of the state of Idaho has any idea he mispronounces anything.
@@willriley8721 Where does he live?
I'd rather Aaron spends his time doing the railroad stuff than researching how to pronounce every small town in the West.
