    As one from the same hometown as Maurice (Edmundston) I'm proud that the king of the banjo is a fellow Brayon. He was born Beaulieu but changed the spelling to make it sound more English

    oh how i wonder if my late father knew of this performer. I hear much playing/styling similarities, although not as finished professional performer as Marice, I think he could of held his own pretty well... brings tears to my eyes. wow Marice!

    How can anybody not like this? The second tune, by the way is Lime House Blues. I play three finger style on a five string, but I love these hot tenor banjo guys -- they RIP!

    Though he is Canadian, he is really deserve to be called the king of Banjo. His performance is awesome ,second to non.
    Especially I moved to his adlib-like single tone play. I bet it is very hard to play and rarely seen the other banjo players do.
    I am playing this song on ukulele strumming style and quite at loss of solo play part and this video clip gave me the hint.
    Thank you.

    The plectrum banjo and the five string banjo are completely different instruments altogether. Comparing the two would be like comparing a guitar to a ukelele: they kinda look the same and are physically played in a similar manner but they are performed upon very differently for their own particular style and are of a different size, tuning and string arrangement. That fifth string does make a world of difference. That being said, this guy is one of the finest tenor banjoists I have seen.

    The only mistake with the video is that the title limits Maurice to being only Canada's King of the Banjo when in reality he is King of the Banjo, period.

    Good player. But i like the 5-string much more. And the picking instead of just hitting the strings. But man this guy is fast.
    People to check out: Raymond Fairchild and Earl Scruggs.

  • @bluedanbob
    @bluedanbob 15 лет назад

    It's not fair to compare Maurice and Earl; Maurice was a four string plectrum/tenor picker, Earl played a five string which is tuned and played differently.
    That said, I agree, fair or not, that a master four string picker puts the best of the bluegrass boys to shame.

      Hi Mary, there are many styles preceding the tenor banjo. Clawhammer, two finger and three finger picking styles. There are some great RUclips videos showing the history of the banjo, right back to it's origins of a gut string and goat skin head.
      www.google.com/search?q=bill+evans+history+of+the+banjo&oq=bill+evans+history+of+the+banjo&aqs=chrome..69i57j33l4.14514j0j9&client=tablet-android-samsung&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#
      Maurice is one of my all time greats though, on a recording he can really make his banjo sound like he's sometimes finger picking and at others a smooth plectrum multi string tremolo. It's sad there's not more video of his talent on RUclips. I've nearly worn out his golden greats album over the years. He was one of the reasons I started playing nearly 40 years ago...👍

  • @TruegrassBoy
    @TruegrassBoy 15 лет назад

    By the way - This guy is chord based and Earl Scruggs, Don Reno, Raymond Fairchild and the bluegrass guys are note based players. Can't compare them - but personally I like the bluegrass musicians much better. This style of playing gets boring after awhile.
