Food is the one thing they kept relatively plenty (apart from the PLANNED starvation in Ukraine). I grew up in West-Berlin since 1972 ... and there was NEVER starvation in East Germany. They had LACK OF CHOICE in food ... but that's it.

They live in a state of constant paranoia for EVERYONE around them, no allies, no friends, true, complete isolation, the knowledge that they are ONLY respected because of might. Which might seem awesome the first couple years, but humans cannot sustain those trials. When people say "government funded," they have no idea it's taxpayer funded.
Right? They act like "the government" goes to work at McDonald's everyday and clocks in for 58 million dollars an hour 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year so "the government" can pay for stuff. It's hard-working middle class Americans and the rich that pay for literally everything. Only around 50% of people in this country pay federal taxes. The top earners pay 80-90% of it.

They will of course still accept capital and mainly survive off the tourism industry ironically.

All styles of society have problems. Capitalism promotes greed, communism/socialism kills motivation and probably increases theft because people do still want more, things like monarchy probably create a lot of hopelessness for change so people get unsettled etc.. Basically, whatever system you have, those who lust for more will cause problems. And there will always be those who want more.

You can go and visit the killing fields in Cambodia and see piles of musical instruments belonging to people who were murdered by the communists, for trying to play a violin or a guitar (because learning to play meant that you were trying to be better than other people, which was anti-communist). These people were denounced, arrested and murdered. As well as others. And this woman thinks she is communist. She, just like other young people, are idealistically and ideologically possessed and have a very low resolution understanding of history.

We have this utopia in Finland. Government provides free housing, electricity, water, health care, 1megabit Internet connection, and enough money for food, clothes, hygiene, phone bill, etc.

My wife came from a communist country, the government would announce, the money will change tomorrow and you are only allowed to exchange a minor amount for the new money. That way no one could accumulate more than anyone else. The old money became worthless.

When he decided to take his family on an escape, he built a boat. Because all the neighbors were snitches to the communists, when he put the motor in, there was no testing, the first trip was the escape. They made it to the islands around Malaysia. The previous escapees already on the island, knew the Malaysian navy would haul any seaworthy boat back out into the ocean. So islanders they ran out into the water and started knocking holes into the boat and sank it. The lived on the island for 6 months, had to build everything they had, shelter, beds, cooking facilities, etc. The family became entrepreneurs, people from Malaysia would bring in supplies and sell it, so my wife as a 17 year old would buy and resell. Her favorite story is about buying a bunch of lemongrass and then realizing she was stuck with it. Then a supplier brought in a load of chicken, suddenly her lemon grass was a hot commodity for making a common Vietnamese chicken/lemongrass meal. It's been 40 years, I wanted her to write a book 30 years ago, but she never did. It would have been an interesting read.

I studied in the Soviet Union for a year in 1991. Witnessed the collapse of the country first hand, and I lived with a family when I was there. One day my host mother came home from her job as an aerospace engineer at the MIG factory, when she announced that she had been promoted. She was glum and down, and I asked why that was. She handed me a cloth banner with a picture of Lenin on the front that said in Russian "To the Winner of the Socialist Competition!." She was disgusted. She told me that all she ever wanted was food on the shelves, the ability to buy jeans, to not have to wait in line for basic food stuffs, to get rewarded for her hard work and to be able to buy things with money. All she wanted was to provide for her family, and all she got was this stupid banner for 30+ years of working as an engineer. She told me to take the banner home to the U.S. with me, and tell people about this. She told me to tell people to not make the same mistakes her country did in embracing communism, as it only led to poverty, fear, and stagnation. I never forgot it, and I still have that banner to this day.

Not just modern women. This type of thinking is pervasive in every generation. I knew a woman who was a boomer, born 1962, who sounded just as critically uninformed, ignorant and intellectually impoverished as these women. She never worked for a thing in her life because she always had someone taking care of her. She always had her hair done, her nails done a full pack of cigarettes and booze in the fridge. Worse more, she had two children who made it to adulthood seemingly unscathed but I knew the truth. They both had a lot of trauma and trust issues from her neglect. I remember before, I cut contact with her, she was whining all over social media wondering “what went wrong” with her life, how her “ungrateful children” could be “so selfish” to cut her off and not let her see her grandchildren. Well.... 🤷

What this chick wants is to not work and have what everyone else has. Have a friend who works for the electric company and does repair work. Horrible weather here in NJ this past weekend. Trees down, power cut. He was at a friend’s kid graduation party on Saturday but was on call because if the power went out, he had to leave and fix it. He couldn’t enjoy a beer and couldn’t eat too much. Got the call at 7 pm and he had to leave. Pouring rain, 95 degrees, trees down and he was out there busting his ass. He gets paid a boatload of $$. Guaranteed he wouldn’t do that for free - out of the goodness of his heart.

I see men working on road construction in the Arizona heat and I KNOW they wouldn't do that for free! They often do the bulk of the work at night, with huge floodlights, to get the job done when there's not much traffic, and also to avoid the heat. But if something needs to be repaired right away, like a broken water main or something, it can't wait, so they're out there, doing their job in miserable conditions. God bless these guys, they deserve whatever they're getting paid. Fatty McChubs up there can try doing what they do for no pay and see how she likes it.
My dad did that same job for several decades, so I saw some of what they go through. They are under appreciated, and the money and providing for a family is the only thing that kept him going.

Italy is a VERY aged out country, so I am wondering if this village is about 70% seniors and 30% young, working age people? That would shed a very different light on your comment. As a retired person myself, who paid into Social Security from age 15 to 62, I am very thankful for and need the SS to live on. I would have worked longer, but was more or less forced into retirement following the financial crash of 2008-09. Then, I have continued to work, pro bono for working family members babysitting/daycare, because they could not afford daycare. I am helping them, while they work and pay into SS. Would you consider that communism?

I get these people are younger so they have little real experience, but there are very few humans who would risk their lives/health or work their rears off so most others can not work and do whatever they want. If I am working 8hrs a day while my neighbors sit at home and do nothing (getting the same 'pay' as myself), I will eventually stop working too.
Here's another similar example: school district taxes.
I have zero children. My neighbor has 5 children. We pay the SAME school district tax rate. Why?
I get zero benefits, he gets 5x the benefit, it's not fair.
I should be paying zero, he should be paying 500% more. That would be fair.

the only time communism will ever work is in a very small Utopian population with leaders that don't get greedy and make choices the people will always love. Most everything laid out makes perfect logical sense and lets just say not much to disagree with.
As far as these communism issues popping up regularly all over YT... theres actually something as European I have not understood as of yet, partly why does so many Americans seem to wrongly believe Sweden is a communist country? (Factually were capitalists and a lot of years we actually had almost identical average incomes as the US average, even more upstarts as the government envourages and give company upstarters various get going start contributions.)
Were differently taxed and insured tho, counted the total we have significantly less amounts for these. And we have free medicare and social security in that. (Insurances are a fraction of the US version and very different covered - such like also for a car, no matter whom drives it in the family/friends.)
But most civilized countries have medicare/social security because what else would you pay taxes for? Sweden is not even good compared to other European countries, some have free glasses/optricians, dental asf... Everyone have free child birth, related vacations asf

Oh its long but pherhaps not everyone knows this, I chosed private medicare, theres a wild number of private clinics here surpassing the per capita in the US. You choose your clinic and sign a paper, the government now pays the clinic just the same as ordinary care...
Meds, procedures, x-rays asf are capped. You will paythe lowest price for your meds in the farmacy that is based on something like pricerunner. The US mates in our sporting club, some are surgeons/doctors and they all said they cant believe their system not had a total overhaul already 50yrs ago.
So to my knowledge I cant puzzle this piece together. Americans irl seem generally great and a lot caring for others, empathic and lots of good so.... well I dont even understand why Communism comes up discussing where taxes go to? Where does your tax dollars actually go? Curious

Hungarian here....i am not old enough to remember the last few years of communism but my mother always talked about it. Our family experienced the good and bad side of communism. My mom said there were no idle lazy people, if you didnt want to work the state found u a job...and u had to do it. Cause u work TOGETHER towards the bigger goal..like it or not. She said she liked that morals were tighter, there was such a thing as a morality police. Again, in todays age that would not go down well. She also liked that people were supported during hardship, but again, they did have to do some job, clean streets etc. Nothing was for free.
Our family was deemed enemy of the state around the 1956 revolution. My grandpa spent 8 months hiding in different farm buildings and my grandma was bringing him food etc. His brother spent few years in a work camp. My mom and bigger family had to deny my grandpas brother in front of the soviet police and change name to distance themselves from him so they could keep their property. And now some 50 years later he has a statue and a street named after him for fighting communism. Sooo if u ask real people who actually lived through communism u will get people who like it, u will get people who will forever fight it. Its different experiences for everyone
