By the time you figure out how to optimize the details to where it works nearly as well, you will have spent twice as much- trust me, development takes a lot of fiddling and re-design.
Well a dredge is a bit more complicated than a sluice, and one thing that say Keene has to do that the back yard fabricator does not, is analyse every material, component, and arrangement to get maximum effectiveness for minimum cost. For example, I am working on a new type of separation table. I started with a sheet metal table top- no good, too much vertical 'twang' during operation. So I went to heavily varnished 1/2" plywood- worked fine initially but degraded in weeks as water somehow worked its way into the wood and expanded it. Then we went to 1/2" PVC- worked OK until it started to fracture around the attachment points. Next? probably fiberglass. Fun if your'e not in a hurry. Keith
