  • This is a tutorial about doing a Throttle Body Coolant Bypass on the LT1 engine for a Camaro, Formula, Trans Am. This is a very easy mod to do. The car should pick up around 7 horsepower and a quicker throttle response. The mod only took about an hour to do. The hardest thing was to get the passenger side hose off since it is pointed down but it will come off.
    Hardware Needed:
    1 3/8th inch barbed fitting
    2 3/8th hose clamps

    After watching this several times still can’t tell how you did it

    Have to possibly remove the intake elbow, alternator bracket, sensor for the throttle body and vaccum line.
    No need for a 3/8 fitting. Just delete the hose on the passenger side and run the other side reroute into the passenger side and cap off the fittings. Best to delete as much as you possibly can and have a straightforward build. Plenty of room in the coolant line.

    I just took the elbow off the cross over tube from the front of engine and shortened the hose from the radiator and used one clamp and it looks 100% cleaner .

    how did gm ever come up with the idea that the throttle body would or could ever freeze up and that it should have protection as compared to a few other things that actually can but have none? like cables, or distributors that moisture gets into, ie, the optispark

      The same engineers who decided that a temperamental optispark that can't handle spray up from a small puddle should cuddle up with the waterpump... haha

    Noticed a large line coming from throttle body. I believe it's the evap purge. Mine is rotted out and there is no replacement. Did you delete the evap canister. Video?

      You have to use a 90degree spark plug boot for that

    Hey mullets garage I have a 95 Camaro Z28 5.7L LT1 AND I use to be able to leave idling with a on and go in store and come out and the temp gauge would be at the 1/4 line and I don't want to wait until the 235 I think it is I want to run like 180degrees what do I need to do I can really use your help and advice please thanks bro

      Mine was getting hot and sending coolant out of the over flow. I replaced thermostat to a 160 and the water pump, didn't change shit. It turned out to be the primary coolant fan. The driver side takes the load, the passenger side only comes on past 215. Replaced the fan, no issues since. I have a 93, with a very old performance chip. This may not be the case with 94 and up how the fans work.

    What exhaust you have on that baby? And size pipe? Cats?

      At the time of this video, it had speed engineering longtube headers, a 3 inch off road y pipe so no cats, 3 inch pipe all the way back to a flowmaster 80 series.
      In my recent video, I took the flowmaster off and put a GMMG exhaust on the car.

    Great vid, do you still have your LT1? If so, check out my TB coolant bypass vid, we show how to keep the TB even cooler for a few extra ponies 🐴🐎

    How in the pickle did you get all that room next to the intake? I have the same k&n intake and almost same platform ( fire chicken formy) and it’s about a muhh fckr that’s about to be tko’d.

      I did away with my egr and air pump. Frees up a good amount of room lol

    where does the water come from and where does it go to? how about just plugging both those ends as they seem infinitely easier to get to

    • @stevensobel
      @stevensobel 2 года назад

      This is a coolant line, don't plug them. it comes from the radiator and flows through the throttle body and back to the radiator. Much easier for diagnostic purposes to just use the connector to keep the flow, in case you get a coolant leak or issue in the future. 😊

    What did u do to holes on throttle body leave open after coolant lines removed

    • @mulletzgarage1676
      @mulletzgarage1676  4 года назад +1

      I put rubber caps over them but it wouldn’t hurt anything to leave them open.

      Much of a hp gain do u think this mod is2-3 hp maybe??

    • @tomster7574

      water goes through them, not air, doesnt affect anything to leave them open

    • @renzokata

      For me? Absolutely free. No need for a fitting. Just delete the hose on the passenger side and run the coolant pipe that runs into the driver side into that. Plenty of room to reroute the hose. Absolutely free. Just vaccum caps for the fittings maybe.

    This is pointless. You cant possibly save or add horsepower this way. Cooling the are density charge is actually better. Thats why it exists lol.

    • @billyd57
      @billyd57 Год назад

      It exists so when you drive your camaro in the next snow storm your throttle body won’t freeze up sending warm coolant around the throttle body..
      but most of us don’t drive our camaro/firebirds in the winter so we don’t need it and will take the any HP gain we can get on a budget..
