    Interesting how different the approch to commercials is between america and japan, in america, its animated Segments and kids playing with the toys. In Japan, its just the toys

      The movie was a failure in america so they didn't release it until 1989,toei animation probably told takara what the movie was about so it was included in the commercials and intro for transformers 2010 as a recap of some of the events.

      Season 3 was called _Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers: 2010_ (or just Transformers: 2010 for short) in Japan.
      The movie already was set in the then-future year of 2005, and Takara decided to jump the in-fiction timeline ahead another 5 years for their dub of the post-movie season (necessitating exposition about Daniel having been put in stasis for whatever reason) - probably so that they could have a somewhat flashier future year to stick in the title.

      @@ZeldaTheSwordsman They did wound up retconning The Movie into the Japanese continuity later on and that's how Kiss Players was created.

      @@David315842 The movie was always in Japanese continuity, it just took til 1989 for it to be dubbed.
      Which seems to have hurt the sales of Cyclonus and Scourge there.

    • @David315842
      @David315842 2 года назад +1

      @@ZeldaTheSwordsman You just contradicted yourself right there. Japan didn't have the movie till 1989, and not bring it over in 1986. Instead favouring the Scramble City OVA. That's my point. They initially skipped it at first and didn't retcon it till later. Cyclonus and Scourge sales were not hurt at all as they appeared in Season 3; Transformers 2010.

    • @ZeldaTheSwordsman
      @ZeldaTheSwordsman 2 года назад

      @@David315842 Where the hell did I contradict myself? I said 198*9* in my post just there.
      _My_ point is that they DIDN'T "skip" it, it was just DELAYED. You know, that thing where something gets pushed back because for whatever reason people can't get to it at the time? It was still very much in-continuity, with its events being hyped up as "The Unicron War" by the magazine material.
      The Scramble City OVA was NOT a replacement for the movie at all. The Scramble City OVA was only ever a special to promote Metroplex, Trypticon, and the 1986 combiners.
      As for Cyclonus and Scourge, the reason I suspect that the delay on the movie hurt their sales in Japan - in other words that their appearing in TF:2010 *was insufficient to make them sell well* - is because _The Headmasters_ reduces them to bumblers and then nonentities, and instead of them getting rereleased as Targetmasters... their Targetmaster Partners were instead given to retooled Diaclone-mold characters made up for the Headmasters toyline
