Lyrics:
He's gone
2000 miles
Is very far
The snows falling down
It's colder day by day
I miss you
The children were singing
He'll be back at Christmas time
And these frozen and silent nights
Sometimes in a dream
You appear
Outside under the purple sky
Diamonds in the snow
Sparkle
Our hearts was singing
It felt like Christmas time
2000 miles
Is very far through the snow
I'll think of you
Wherever you go
He's gone
2000 miles
Is very far
The snows falling down
It's colder day by day
I miss you
I can hear people singing
It must be Christmas time
I hear people singing
It must be Christmas time

my favourite Christmas song...
I lost a Daughter and a Son. Christmas is always hard.
I lost my best friend in April. Murdered by her boyfriend, and left a son and daughter. Miss her so very much.

@@marilyn1379 so sorry
This is probably one of the most underrated Christmas songs around. It doesn’t seem to get the massive airplay it deserves.
It should... All the cover artist like train kt tustall and some others should get radio airplay
It's on the Walmart store xmas loop...have heard it more this year than the year it came out...
I heard the train version at a goodwill last year and I was hooked!
Underrated only because of the title. If it was called "2000 Miles (at Christmastime)" it would have gotten the recognition.
I always recommend it to people. It's not famous but I doubt it'll ever be forgotten either.
Lost my wife last month. This song captures the grief amidst the regular themes of the season, and how alone it makes you feel, and how you dream, then wake up.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
So sorry for you loss
I've lost many friends and family, music like this helps 💞
Jesus Dude. That's rough. I thought I was going though a rough time with my family. Hang in there bro. I hope things get better for you. Just stay away from alcohol. It only makes it worse, believe me.
I’m sorry 😢
My mother passed away 3 years ago. Her birthday was on December 29th, this song still bring tears to my eyes as the “Christmas time” also reminded me her birth day was coming. I still sometimes see her in dreams.
Mine too. Died in Christmas 2017. They're not dreams, they just visit us.
Nearly 40 years later.. Still the best Christmas song.
I wouldn't go that far!
One of the very many .......👍🇬🇧🤓
Tuesday December 13th 2022
Is not a Christmas song. Never was.
...it's 4 years old....
I love this song, it gives me a feeling I cannot explain, it's like happiness and sadness at the same time.
Same here 🌹
Exactly spot on
Underated comment, so true, i love this song but it also makes me feel like my old man just abandoned me :)
Yesssss! Totally agree. Reminds me of a love from the past yet makes me happy at the same time
Touche man, I love this song, beautiful stuff.
I adore this song. Isn't Christmas without it. As for Chrissy, God! How gorgeous! When I hear this, I'm young again. Mum and Dad are still alive, and the future is unknown and full of hope, potential, and mystery. That's all mostly gone now. But, for a brief few weeks a year, I hear this song, and the past comes winging back. Merry Christmas. Everyone. 🎅
Merry Christmas to you!!
@@cynthiaschram8021 thanks. I'll save it until December. I hope you have a smashing criggy too!
I am with you!
I agree. It makes you long for all the loved ones who have gone. ❤
Great comment, could not of descibed it better

Happy Christmas to anyone listening to this in 2023. Timeless!!
Thx, happy Xmas 😊😀🎉🎶🇩🇪🎄🎄
merry christmas!
Merry Christmas!
December 22nd. First day of winter. My father has been gone over 4 years. Just had a woman I love leave me behind.
But I'm still here. I'm gonna live my life. I'm gonna enjoy every sandwich. Every beer. Every spring until it's my time. God bless us all.
Merry Christmas mate 🍻🎄
@@stabilis8895 Merry Christmas buddy. 😊🍻
She has such a unique voice, always elevates me. This is one of my favourite Christmas songs.
Still one of the most under-rated Christmas songs EVER! 🙌
I heard this on the radio yesterday, and it struck me as such a unique, original, beautiful Christmas song What a talent. No cliches in this song. And the music is fantastic.
My favourite Christmas song ever.. Its absolutely timeless
Most beautiful christmas song ever. Simple and emotive.
Heard this song today in the grocery store. It’s my favourite song for Christmas and has been for many years. I will have played it 50 times by December 25. Merry Christmas everyone!
Merry Christmas!
I've played it 25 times now at least and it's the 15th 🤣🤣
I heard it in the grocery store too ! And started to remember how cool of a song this was . Merry Christmas !
Merry christmas
Learning to Crawl--there is no better 1980s record. And it has aged perfectly.
This song gives me goosebumps each time I listen to it... it's so Christmas! 🥰
Check out Greg lake I believe in Father Christmas that’ll give you goosebumps too

This and "December Will Be Magic Again " by Kate Bush,,,, you know Christmas is a Knocking
Yes same!!
@@mariabean1786 Yes an absolute classic from 1975 I think.
Can't listen to this without shedding a tear somehow makes you miss all those gone. Special mention to my mum who passed away boxing day 2013 she's always been my guardian angel
I will forever love this tune and Chrissie Hyndes voice ❤️❤️
Is this what angels sound like ? Incredibly moving voice
This girl has the raw innocence in her voice not many have it touches your soul and gives you goosebumps at the same time
Hello
Thank you so much
How are you doing?
One of the most amazing voices of our generation. Her perfect pitch and take no prisoners attitude is an Icon, a tough broad with a heart of gold. Oh how we love her.
Im flying home on Christmas eve to see my wife and kids. Cyprus to Scotland just happens to be 2000 miles. Ive been listening to this and choking back sweet tears all day long.
I used to feel exactly the same when my kids were still in Africa and am abroad. Every Christmas that song was always my song, still is though it's so sad for us foreigners. It's my favourite song ever..
HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!! mate....to you and your loving family.
@@stephenlisson1994 Merry Christmas to you dear.
Goodluck and happy Christmas
How gorgeous!🥰
It's December 2021, let's see how many legends are listening to this masterpiece♡
Yes. And i just noticed i had commented on here 2 years ago. This song is timeless.
Me! My favourite Xmas song
My fav!!
I am and I'm a legend
this is a timeless Christmas classic, one of my favourite Christmas songs, sounds better in these crazy times, jim O'Connell
Weirdly enough, I’m so glad I worked at tescos over the holidays. They played this on loop and I had no idea who it was (I’m 22). A Christmas staple.
I was working in the United Arab Emirates during winter 1997/1998. This one day because of some shitty business meeting I had to go to I was driving from Ajman (obscure emirate) to Abu Dhabi and while on the weird motorway which for some inexplicable reason had speed bumps half way thru the journey, this song came on Capital Radio Abu Dhabi. it was slightly more than 2000 miles from home in the UK, but the feels were real. This is the only song in the world ever that can make me cry. Masterpiece.
I remember listening to this nearly 40 years ago when, newly married, I waited for my husband to come back from a 6 month deployment with the army. Oh how I cried. 😂
Hello
Thank you toms.
How are you doing?
This song holds a special place in my heart. Long story love it.
It sounds like some kind of psychedelic anthem to Christ- he also traveled the world.
I first heard this song in 2006 (don't mind me, I know I was late, I'm a millennial lol) and I instantly fell in love with it. My dad passed away on 12/23/19 from cancer. So close to Christmas time. The first year I couldn't process anything especially being so close to the holiday. The second year I couldn't process anything due to Covid. This year, when I listened to this song (felt like the first time I ever heard it) I could finally let it all out. Thank you Chrissie for your amazing vocals on this song. Thank you The Pretenders for creating such a masterpiece. They will never know how much this helps me grieve. Much love and Merry Christmas.
This song is about finding your way home for Christmas whatever form that takes. Plus I love all the cute stuffed animals, the Major Barbara Salvation Army reference and actually seeing Chrissie's eyes after a bang trim.
most underrated vocal artist ever, her voice is beautiful
True, true. Just don't ever offer her a steak & ale dinner.... She might rip your tongue out & shove it in your eye !! Militant vegetarian is she, she is....😜
Craig lol what
She's Beautiful period .. and full stop.
One of the most powerful female voices to ever be recorded. And she can run with the heavy hitters too. Dylan, McCartney, Sinatra, and many more collaborations.
The problem with Chrissie/ Pretenders was they had a brilliant flash for the first 3 albums and then the music became like a lounge act. They never did it again really after Learning to Crawl.
The greatest christmas song.
I remembered the phrase
“I miss you.”
by listening to this song.
OK, Christmas must truly be approaching......I've just played this for the first time in 49 weeks. (And will continue to play it for the next three.) And no Christmas for me is ever complete without this one and Greg Lake's I Believe In Father Christmas. Possibly (probably?) the two finest festive tunes of my 51 years on earth. 🎄🎅☃
Love them and FAIRYTALE OF NEWYORK.BRILLIANT.🥰
From a fellow England. I wish you a merry Christmas. Also such a classic. Have a good one.
My bestie is coming home from hosp.right now with a broken shoulder. This has been a rough year for us. So I am jamming before she gets here! Not surprised to see us still playing this truly underrated Christmas Song today. Merry Christmas
@@elliottengland9525 Merry Christmas to you too mate. Make sure you play this one at least once on the 25th.
Cheers!
Such a great underrated Christmas song
It's December again, and this song never fails to make me feel things in this part of the year.
I've always loved this song. Now in my mid 50's and have experienced the loss of so many people in my life including close family members I've come to realise the cleverest part of this song, given why it was written, is that slow introduction and build up. It's the way the loss of someone just creeps up on you. It builds like thet start of the song. It's very clever.
Back when Xmas songs were good. 70s and 80s the best eras.
"In these frozen and silent nights
Sometimes in a dream you appear," that line always gets me 🥹
The Pretenders could NOT have done this one any better...its perfect..
Yet another example of 1980's musical greatness.
While I don’t share your love of 80s music, this song is a great one.
For me the 70s had better Christmas songs.
That's what I'm talking about.
One of the best Xmas songs…. Great song , great voice..
Agreed, 💯 Amazing 😍
Merry Christmas Calvin.
@@LydiaStarz aww thanks 😊 you too lol
Christmas* you fucking heretic.
@@quentinsavage1123 you will be fine :)
Beautiful song
Gets better and better every year, just like a fine wine
one of the most underrated xmas songs
Yes I agree.
The mighty voice of chrissy hynde. Un believable and unique at the same time.
A Beautiful Christmas song with a very sad meaning behind it.
RIP James Honeyman-Scott
RIP Pete Farndon
I had the pleasure of seeing Chrissie Hynde perform a few years back in December. She doesn't typically sing this song at her concerts but since it was the holiday season, we got to hear this song as a special treat...
This woman is one of God's finest creations. 🌴😎✌️
I'm in my mid 40's, how the hell haven't I heard this before?????? WOW! What a beautiful song, I grew up with the Pretenders but today in the car I Heard it for the first time? Thank God my phone (Pixel 6 Pro) has this feature has a feature which I Never really use called Now Playing so I could look it up when I got home or I'd never have found it, just beautiful:)
My grandmother passed away just 4 days before Christmas this year. I dedicate this song to her and my late father. I will see you in another life. I love you both.
one of the most underrated xmas songs
Definitly brill song
My second favourite after War is over
I certainly would've preferred it as the UK Christmas Number One rather than The Flying Pickets' cover of Yazoo's Only You.
How is it underrated? Cause it's played everywhere
rolandet All the Christmas songs play everywhere, but this one doesn’t tend to rank highly in the rankings of Christmas songs they have on TV every year.
This song sends shivers down my spine, no matter how many times I listen to it.
It has a musical mantra/drone effect- of no beginning or end...
It has a drone musical feel and if course Chrissie's ethereal lyrics...
Me too. Always.
Me too
Her voice is incredibly moving
I can't say great things about the video. The song is one of the most beautiful and whimsical songs I've ever heard. I love her voice.
My absolute favorite Christmas song of the modern era
For a tribute song to a fallen band member, this is one great Christmas song
Absolutely. And what a guitarist he was. Such a waste.
But, drugs are bad.
James Honeyman Scott
Rip...😔
🇮🇹
He was only 25 RIP James 🌹❤️
@@muppetrowlf1473 2000 miles through the snow, is very hard. That doesn't mean what we think it means.
Nothing makes me feel more Christmassy than this song! It always gives me a warm cosy feeling! Not long now everyone 🎄🎄🎄
it ain't Christmas without this song
And Greg Lakes' Father Christmas
I cry and think of my late wife when she sings “I miss you”.
God mate. She is with you now and whenever. Surely - forget those who tell you differently - you know it's true.
I’m not a Christian but this song reminds me of of great times when my parents were alive and I had nothing to worry about except peer pressure. 😢I miss my parents and brother.. life is such a challenge sometimes but these memories I don’t ever want to forget! The cortisol is flowing out with these tears, I guess it’s a good thing.
Amen to that. Not a religious person either, despite my amen to your comment. I've always found everything I need in music (my religion I guess). Being homeless, countless mental health issues, ect., ect. It has help me live another day. Anyway, thanks for sharing. I hope music continues to inspire you.
I love your post and feel entirely the same Christmas brings back all those special memories they ate our Christmas treasure 🥰💝
Amen God bless in Jesus Christ x
This is a song about a long-distance relationship coming to a heartbreaking end at Christmas time. What does you not being christian have to do with its nostalgia ? is it because your parents were christian ?
@@MrCalrichy I used to be Christian so when I heard this song I was very young at the time, living with my parents. The nostalgia is that this song was being played during this time of year back in 1983, so it brings me back to those days having all my family around.
I love this song. I remember listening to it as a 20 yo in 1984 when I was sitting in a gate shack at a Hawk Missile site on a snowy mountain top in West Germany. I always volunteered to work Christmas and preferred the midnight to 6am shift - it was silent, snowing heavily, and incredibly beautiful. It's one of my deepest memories.
Thank you for your service
My dad was with the HERC in Greece same time
Sounds like a very cool way to celebrate, memories and good music is sometimes all you need:)
Thank you for your service.
That's one heck of an EVOCATIVE scene you bring! That could be a music video, a movie moment, a short story.
Dec. 2021 and it's still the best Christmas song I've ever heard.
This song was the first ever slow dance that my wife and I had, when we started going out at the office Christmas Party on 20 December 1984. We're now about to have our 40th Christmas together and the love between us has matured like a great oak tree and this song has matured like a fine wine.
We have walked a lot more than 2,000 miles (very far!) through snow, rain, blow; but our hearts are still singing and it still feels like Christmas time. Diamonds in the snow sparkle!
That’s beautiful you are so lucky and blessed -hope I’m next it’s been a solitary journey!!
Tough year. Dad died. Daughters are 2000+ miles away and won’t be back at Christmas time. COVID. But then I listen to songs such as this and marvel at its poignancy and beauty. Things always get better in time.
Sorry & prayers to your family. My Uncle passed to for Covid last week
Sorry for your loss.
God bless ❤
Hold tight.I’m sure you’re Dad would have wanted that..Good times just around the corner.
💗
I love that it's underrated, it feels like it's mine even more.
This christmas I heard this song on the radio, and I instantly thought it was a new song but then I got that feeling of familiarity. I must have heard this song before, but I couldn't place it. Remembered part of the lyrics, Googled it and turned up here. Of course I have heard it, some 35 years ago... Such a timeless piece. Thanks to the Radio station for playing some 50 different christmas songs this year, instead of the seven or eight usual songs on repeat..
First time I ever hear this song and I love the Pretenders. Prayers of comfort to you all that have lost a loved one.
Merry Christmas, may God continue to bless you in all you do.

I am very sorry for your pain.
I'm so very Sorry, about ur loss, and pain. I know it must Hurt. I'm sure Holly is Close to you, in Spirit, and Real, still, just Remember; and Keep the Faith. My Wish to You, is you Find, Smiles, and Happiness, even among the Tears, and Sorrows. I Hope u have a Merry Christmas.
Never head this song before at 28y old. Head it on the radio, got home searched the song and played it on repeat for the rest of the day
One of my favorite Christmas songs ever! I was 18 when this song came out. Such a beautiful song 🎵
No other Christmas song will do for me. This is it for me ❤️ I just love her voice
I'm exactly the same, her voice is amazing
Best Christmas song ever ❤
1984 what a year for christmas songs - Band Aid, Last Christmas, 2000 miles and lots more I was 10 y.o and remember all them well
I was 19 Wes and remember it well too! Merry Christmas!
Band Aid was annoying, this song is great.
I was 14 years from my birth but I love them all
This one was actually Christmas 1983.
Gethin Evans me too👍
Listening to this makes me feel weirdly emotional, yet optimistic. My hangover may also have something to do with this.
It is quite a remarkable track.
This song makes me so melancholy.

It hurts.
I just got home. People are all outside putting up their decor and this song came on that I never heard of. Well, I just had to hear it again and again and will play it probably a million times more. Where has this song been?

It felt like Christmas time
Two thousand miles
Is very far through the snow

It's December 28, 2023 and this song is still a tearjerkimg banger for all thise away from family and loved ones. Karaoke tinight, baby!❤🎄🙏🏽🗽🇺🇸🇵🇭🏴❤️🎄🎄🎄🎵🎤
She sings it so beautifully that you can really see her noble enthusiasm.
This song reminds me of driving in a blizzard at night, feeling like you are in a little cozy capsule, while rest of world is storming. all you have is radio and headlights. Thinking of long ago holidays with long ago loves. At home later, thankful for your car getting you there. All is finally still, with layer of sparkly diamonds coating everything.
That was beautiful. Yes, this song reminds me of returning home at night after a night's partying with friends during the Christmas holiday season....returning home to a warm, safe home with family as the snow fell from the purple darkness above, while all around was cloaked in hushed stillness, well before full-on adulthood with its worries and concerns over car insurance, leaking roofs, heating bills and shoveling of walkways....a time when life stretched out before us in all its infinite potential like a highway stretching out into the desert.
Omg! You two are poets. I have nothing further to add.
nice, i never took a car for granted in the 880's i was always grateful if it got me somewhere after a long trip. cars are so reliable now its almost boring. lol
That’s exactly the picture I have in my head. We must be twins....Merry Christmas.2021.
Nice- has a Charles Dickens poential/feel to filmed sequence
Love Chrissie's voice and especially love this track at Christmas.
Merry Christmas. This song is one of my favorite carols. it's touching
im 16 and i love this song, ever since i can remember this song has always been played every christmas as we decorate the tree, open presents, see family and eat food. this song always brings back the happiest memories, and continues to be a soundtrack to new memories that i will look back on when im older.
How cute is it that she's in a Salvation Army outfit. I love Chrissie! 🤩💕
what a voice to grow up listening to , she was one of my favorites
Brilliant song to listen to at Christmas time...
This song reminds me of being 18 and working in a supermarket at Christmas time. Absolute shite pay but that feeling of it being Christmas made it so worth it :’)
A true classic
It's 2024, I'm not a legend, but I'm definitely listening this beautiful, and intensely sad, song.
I've just "discovered" this song, seriously never heard it before! I love it and it's video!!
Thanks to whom ever put it on RUclips!!!!
Chrissie/Pretenders have a lot of great songs. I think she’s a great songwriter.
For some reason it was only a hit in the UK and didn't get much traction in other territories.
